  1. Re: Portugal vs Turkey, 07.06.2008 at 20:45

I only saw bits of the second half so can't comment on the first half. Were Portugal really that impressive guys? I see they're into 5/1 outright for the tourney now. I was a bit suprised because I only caught the back end of the match and Turkey almost snatched an equaliser. Tuncay sliced his shot in the box, but against better opposition - which they will encounter later on - they could have drawn that game. Afterall, their second goal came in time added on when the Turks got caught on the counter. Like I say, I didn't see how classy(?) Portugal were in the first half, but the big worry is that they can't kill teams off. In qualifying they drew far too many games.
I think the price coming in is just due to the fact they are now half way to qualifying for the quarter-finals after the win, so it is understandable for the bookies to bring the price down. I didn't think Portugal were really impressive but they dominated possession and chances against one of the worst teams (IMO) ahead of the hosts in the competition. On reflection of the game Portugal were deservedly two goals better than Turkey, but they should have had the game killed off earlier than they did.
  2. Re: Germany v Poland (Sunday) I've gone for Ballack at 8/1 first and last scorer. Ballack takes free kicks and penalties for Germany as well as having great timing of making late into the penalty box to get on the end of crosses from Schweinsteiger, or the attacking full backs Lahm (who i believe now plays right back) and Jansen. Ballack is fantastic in the air so will be a danger from corners or if there are free kicks further out, Ballack will look to get on the end of them. I expect a tight game, but expect Germany to nick it 1-0 or 2-0. Poland would take a draw beforehand, whereas Germany will be going all out for a win so i feel a goal from a set piece could break the deadlock.

  3. Re: French Open 25th May - 8th June I was thinking that Federer may take the second set if he was to take a set off Nadal at all, but just been on betfair and think that the Nadal at 9/5 for straight sets win is actual better value as i expected a worse price than that. Not had my bet on the match yet but think after looking at the set betting prices i'll take some of the straight sets win. I think the way you have described Federer's recent performances that your thinking it could be a reasonably easy victory if you're expecting more of the same from Federer so maybe a straight sets win rather than the over/unders if you think he may collapse if a set down and break down.

  5. Re: French Open 25th May - 8th June Mr Intensity, i can't see Nadal not winning this. I've been watching the French Open the last few years and this year Nadal has taken his game to a new level with his performances compared to his previous wins. At last years final i had been thinking that he is getting closer to Nadal and may win either this year or next, but i haven't been too convinced with some of Federers matches even though i'm a big fan of his. Federer is always up for the challenge of playing Nadal on clay and wont just lie down and let nadal win so i think there may be a bit of value in another 3-1 but i don't think that it'll be the first set that Federer will win.

  7. Re: Austria v Croatia (Sunday)

im thinking of putting $$$ on CROATIA to win OR draw @ $1.20... thoughts???
Just do Croatia win. Much better team than Austria who are only at the tournament as they are hosts and it would be much better value at around evens. Would be very surprised if Croatia don't win this game. IMO this is the best bet of the group stages due to the price and teams involved.
  8. Re: bets for euro 2008 Sorry only just got back in so one of my games is in play. Some more of my bets i have done are: fourfold and trebles from the following games:- Portugal to beat Turkey, Croatia to beat Austria, Germany to beat Poland and Germany to beat Austria. Klose 11/1 e/w top scorer Gomez 20/1 top scorer on betfair and 7.2 on betfair for top 3. Ballack top three on betfair at 14/1. Double on Croatia to beat Austria and Germany to beat Poland on Coral, Ladbrokes and Betfair. Fourfold and trebles for their countries top scorer: Torres(Spain), Toni(Italy), Petric (Croatia), Linz(Austria) and then the same again with no goalscorer for Austria.

  9. Re: Switzerland vs Czech Rep., 07.06.2008 at 18:00

Think it will be a tight opening game here. Czech Rep. probably the better side, but Switzerland will have the crowd behind them. I am going with - 0-0 HT @ 2.35 First Goal 61-70 minutes @ 14.00
Did you get paid for time of goal? I know it was around 70th minute but didn't notice if it was just over or just under. If so nice start to your betting on the Championships.
  10. Re: Racing & Football Outlook- Euro 2008 Betting Guide

What were their main recommended bets?
From the racing post Euro 2008 special i found that one of the most interesting articles was tournament scoring pattern trends. I know a lot of members on here like to bet on under and over 2.5 goals so it is worth taking note that from Euro 1980 to Euro 2004 the following occurred: 1st group game - average goals 2.0 with 72% of games under 2.5. 2nd group game - average 2.3 goals with 60 % under 2.5. last group game - average 3.0 goals with only 35% under 2.5 knockout stages - average 2.0 goals with 72% of games under 2.5. Hope this helps people that didn't see the Racing post special that like betting on number of goals per game. The basic summary is unders for first group game and in the knockout stages and over 2.5 for the last group game.
  11. Re: Euro 2008 Banter Thread

I like that 11/10 about Austria getting 0 to 2 points Boydy, may have a look at that myselfs. They should be able to score though, home advantatge can count for plenty.
No goalscorer is just a small stake bet for the value but i have more a larger stake on the group points for Austria as a single as well as the multiples that i have put in the bets for Euro 2008 section that may interest you. Just pick your own teams if you don't fully agree with my choices. :ok
  12. Re: Euro 2008 Banter Thread I am a fan of Austria, in the hope they are as garbage as i expect they'll be. Already backed them at Coral to get 0-2 points at Coral at 11-10 and have just taken some of the no goalscorer for Austria at 7-1 at Betfred, which i feel is value considering Ladbrokes are 3-1 and hills are 10-3 for the same bet.

  13. Re: England Vs USA

John Terry to score the first goal tonight @ 26 with Betfair. On nights like tonight you often get a fallen guy who comes back to glory. I can't see the US scoring in the first half so I would guess an English player will score the first goal. If Beckham plays then we have excellent chance to score from a set piece and so I will volunteer Terry to score first @ 26 as a potentially interesting bet.
lol, was just reading this as Terry just scored. Nice bet :ok
  14. Re: bets for euro 2008 With Coral i have found that you can have doubles, trebles and fourfolds with the number of group points total with the different groups (only one from each group maximum, e.g. you can't combine Germany and Austria). I am wanting to keep away from Group C as i feel it is difficult to predict, and feel that Austria are garbage, while Spain and Portugal should do well in their groups. Portugal should win their group in what is relatively easy, while Spain should qualify (not necessarily win the group IMO). I have come to the conclusion Portugal and Spain should both obtain at least 5 points each and bet on the following. 1. Austria 0-2 points Portugal 5-6 points Spain 5-6 points odds - 20.48/1 2. Austria 0-2 points Portugal 5-6 points Spain 7-9 points odds - 16.21/1 3. Austria 0-2 points Portugal 7-9 points Spain 5-6 points odds - 23.63/1 4. Austria 0-2 points Portugal 7-9 points Spain 7-9 points odds 18.70/1 Overall i think it may be better value than the single on Austria 0-2 points.

  15. Re: Had a bad beat ? Come and have a moan here

Yeah it is. Matt Damon had A9 and flop comes A9rag two spades. Turn is a 9. River is a spade. Damon talks about how good a player he is and how the river means he's going to win a massive pot. He goes all in and Teddy KGB has AA:ok Actually yours is worse so the ending should be better:unsure:unsure
Don't know whether to thank you for reminding me what happened in the film or tell you to f*ck off winding me up about how good my hand was and still got beat. By the way i'm only joking, i'm justy bitter... btw was only a five dollar buy in for tournie. I'm sure i'll get over it soon enough!!!
  16. Re: Had a bad beat ? Come and have a moan here

You must be sick mate, that's not a bad beat just an absolute bastard:puke Just like the first scene of Rounders......and that ended well:ok
Not sure if this is a stupid question but you on about the film rounders? If so can't remember so remind me please?
  17. Re: Had a bad beat ? Come and have a moan here

Unlucky for your massive hand to have met a bigger hand, but bad beat? You were at no stage ahead in the hand, you were always behind :unsure EDIT - That's to Boyd - I'm too slow :tongue2
That is fair enough that i was never ahead but i would love to meet a player that thought they were behind after the flop or after the river. Fair enough people having doubts after the turn as i could have been behind to a full house if someone had one ace, which is why i checked and i admit it was good play from him to check with his hand. Then to find out he had two aces is a shocker, i'm still disgusted at it now. If anyone could honestly say they thought they would be behind after the river i can truly say they are a liar. There is only a couple of worse possible beats than this i doubt i'll ever see them.
