  1. Whitecaps DNB

Whitecaps victory was made easy by SJ Earthquakes inability to defend the set pieces in the knockout round. Sounders will be without the like of Morris, Dempsey and Svensson. Captain Osvaldo Alonso has trained this week and should be available. Fatigue shouldn't be too much of an issue for the Whitecaps as they played their ko game in Vancouver last week. I think Whitecaps can avoid defeat even if they can't get an advantage to take to the 2nd leg.

  2. Wellington Phoenix -0.25

Phoenix can considered themselves abit unlucky that they didn't get anything out of their last two games. I thought they played well enough to get a least a point. Brisbane Roar as expected with their daddy army is struggling big time. The team looks old and always do not have the fitness to last the whole 90 mins. Their defence will be put to another stern test by pacy Roy Krishna.

    Melbourne City level

This is the first time I'm backing City this season. Will they let me down? Adelaide started really well this season but fatigue and injuries have set in. This is their third game in a week and two of their most impressive players Johan Absalonsen and Ersan Gulum have been ruled out. City don't win often in South Australia but have a good chance to do so tomorrow.

  3. Houston v Sporting u2.5 goals

Two teams of different football style. Houston is a attacking prowess at home, scoring the most in the league while Sporting is a defensive jugglenut and also don't score too many on the road. They only managed 10 goals in 17 road games. Their coach Peter Vermes knows that his team can't match Houston scoring and will try to keep things tight. Adding that this is the third time that they are playing one another in two weeks, they should more or less be familiar and thus cancel each other out in a low scoring game.

  4. The 'favs can't win' virus hit Down Under too last week. In Europe, teams like Chelsea Dortmund, Juventus, Man Utd and Liverpool all fail to win. Even when the favs win, they didn't clear the handicap. Ahem...looking at Real Madrid, Spurs and Sydney FC. :@

    Perth Glory -0.75

I will go with Perth Glory this week. Diego Castro the master vs the younger former Perth Glory playmaker Daniel De Silva. The master should come out on top.

I also agree with lockscombi that WSW could upset Sydney FC. Their defence doesn't seem as tight as last season.

  5. I'm not really sure about backing Everton in the match of two crisis teams. Everton has looked clueless in most games this season and Ronald Koeman sounds like a dead man walking after the defeat to Lyon. Everton was good at home last season because of Lukaku goals and Barkley creativity. One has left and another one is injured and also leaving. The fans at Goodison Park will be piling on the pressure on Koeman as well.

  6. I think City will fall short again. Title between Sydney, WSW and maybe Victory. Strugglers will Wellington Phoenix, CCM and Brisbane Roar.

    Melbourne Victory 1x2

Even though City won their first game but it was against an old Brisbane Roar. I'm also not convinced by Warren Joyce credentials yet. Victory attack will be boosted by Troisi and Barbarouses, that should make them play better in the final third. This is a derby so anything could happen but I'm going to tip Victory to get the first bragging rights of the season.

  7. I don't agree that a draw will benefit Sporting KC and Houston. They all want to finish as the top two teams so they can receive a bye. Teams that finished at the third to sixth spot will have to play an extra knockout round to reach the conference semi-finals.

At the moment, in the West, the top 5 teams all have a good chance of finishing in the top 2. In the East, the second spot (Toronto is guaranteed) is up for grabs for the second to the fifth placed team. Only NYRB is out of running.

  8. WSW -0.5

Tony Popovic leaving for Turkey last week is a major blow to the Wanderers but his assistant Hayden Foxe has been named caretaker. I doubt he will change much to their playing style as of now. I feel that they recruited well. Mark Bridge rejoining them and the Spanish striker Oriol Riera has looked sharp so far. Perth Glory managed to retain the Spanish maestro Diego Castro (my fav A-League player) and also brought in former Wanderers midfielder Andreu. Kenny Lowe is likely to retain his 'I will always try to score more than you' tactic as their defence doesn't seem to have improve much. Even though WSW lost their coach, I still fancy them to get a win in the opening game.

  9. Monaco -0.5

Despite selling a few key personals, the team is still playing like a well-oiled machine. Thomas Lemar return from injury will be a boost to them. Porto is perfect so far in their domestic campaign but the Champions League is alot tougher. They are probably going to try and keep it tight but Monaco should have too much for them especially with the red hot Falcao spearheading their attack.

  10. Montreal Impact -1 @ 1.74

It's pretty much last chance saloon for Impact as they need every win they can get and hope for one of the teams above them to falter. There is no better chance to start the winning streak than against one of the worst team in the league. Minnesota will be playing their second game in four days and have a very poor road record. I believe the expansion side will compete hard but Impact will probably have abit too much for them.
