its been a quiet year relatively speaking as far as big race coups go .....normally ill latch onto something in the derby or other big races but hasnt really been anything special ........not that they always win ....thats always in the lap of the gods ...  poor start or trouble in running and even if youve got the best horse by far your race can be over before it starts .....but sometimes horses shout at you to be backed ...I.e ...ive run this cambridgeshire thru the computer .....

portage is around 10/1 2nd fav for this so sets the benchmark nicely .... . but these two horses above him are currently 50/1 !!  .. and 25/1 !!! ....    that was the first thing I noted .... secondly ....top rated is trained by richard fahey ... .hes a sly man ....been mopping up races all season and suddenly has slipped one in the big race ???..   I ask myself would it be a shock if fahey won the cambridgeshire ? ....definately not given his season ..    ...more digging ...third time lucky won on the bit last time in a style suggesting hes well ahead of the hcapper and has only been raised 4 lbs which doesnt seem enough ........he is currently nestling at bottom weight .....another positive as light weights have historically done well in this ......  polar forest is also not to be ignored ....hasnt the sparkling profile of the top rated but has been running well and only about 4lbs above his best ever run so not out of it by any means ....certainly no 50/1 shot ....... yes its an open race ...currently 35 runners if they go .......obviuos traffic problems ....draw? ....  but looking at the ratings and profile ......I cant help asking myself ......has xmas come early ??........ always a chance he might not run at this early stage but there has been money for top one ...40-20 with will hill ......so im going to take some 25/1 while its available  .......  shot to nothin really ....won 15 points yest so ill just split it between the two and see what happens

theres a lot of factors really .....if a horse finishes 2 lengths behind a fast winner even if he finished 6 th ...that was a great performance so in a slightly easier race next time he would be of interest ....likewise if a horse isnt far away in a 43000 hcap ....even if he was 10 th but only 3 lengths off winner ....that can be considered a very good run especially if he runs in a 12000 next time .....you have to look closely at the horses that beat him and grade them ....what was their worth and where does he fit in ........its kinda like if you ran the 100 m against usain bolt and finished 15 metres back in 7 th ....was that crap ?? ....no of course not ....wen you turn up at coventry next time and usains stayed at home ...could be your day

1st and 3rd ..guaracha wins ..drifted to 7/1 .!!..will get paid at that ...32 pts returned ...nice

york 330 skybet dash algar lad 99.56 kimbrella 99.52 grandads world 99.36 very tough race ... lots out of form or exposed so could be a shock result but top two here warrant serious respect and should run big races at decent prices ....kimbrella has done nothing wrong ....battled to win over 5f lto and has been raised 4 lb but has gone close over 6f in past off 1 lb lower so still looks very competitive given this is a weak race ....algar lad ran a cracker last but one over cd and has been raised .....ran a stinker lto at ascot but then so did quite a few horses with many bouncing back next time out ....if he can reproduce that previous york run ...wont be far away algar lad 5 pts win 11/1 corals kimbrella 5 pts win 10/1 bet365 and 4 x 1pt doubles with ascot race above ..just in case

just finished gigaset international stakes hcap at ascot ... heavens guest 99.39 suzis conniseur 99.35 speculative bid 99.25 I love tackling these big hcaps ....top two here have strong collateral form ties ....heavens guest was hsmpered at the back end of the race and may have finished a place better had it been a better run so off the same mark looks very interesting .....suzis conniseur was just behind heavens guest in 6th but not far off and hcaapper has dropped 2 lbs so that should help .....speculative bid is fav at 10/1 so a good benchmark in the ratings but at 16/1 and 25/1 the top two are fantastic value .....also both are drawn 1 and 2 ... which isnt perfect as sometimes draw favours high but as long as youve a rail it seems a big factor so they can pacemake each other ....nice bets heavens guest 5 pts win 16/1 lads suzis conniseur 5 pts win 25/1 lads

a lot of bookies pay first past the post so that means you get paid nonetheless ...even if disqualified ...if it was in to withdraw then youve been paid no problem...they will also pay on the alternate winner too

just rated top 25 runners presently .....not sure of final decs but lookin for the value oasis fantasy 99.17 nearly caught 98.89 seamour 98.89 notarised 98.81 seamour is currently fav but oasis fantasy is currently the highest rated horse and has been very well backed last few days ......only one or two firms showin 10s ....so im taking it before its gone .....of the others ....ill prob be looking for a nice price on nearly caught .....he has close ties with seamour and will appreciate the drop in trip .....at around 14/1 he would be a nice bet ......need to wait for last decs though oasis fantasy 5 pts win 10/1 lads nearly caught ....pending
