  2. Sunday previews: 4pts Colombia vs Peru - Under 2.5 goals 8/11 Paddy Power Neither of these sides have impressed me going forward in this tournament and I think with the way the group is set up this is going to be a tight and tense match with not many goals if any at all. I guess the longer it goes the more Colombia will have to open up but it is rare they leave themselves exposed. I don’t see Peru being too adventurous given that a clean sheet puts them into the quarter finals so I’m happy to take under 2.5 goals here. Full preview here: https://www.punterslounge.com/colombia-vs-peru-betting-dramatic-final-game-for-both-sides-awaits-us 4pts Venezuela (+1AH) to beat Brazil 2.03 Ladbrokes With that in mind I’m going to take Venezuela on a handicap. They clearly know how to play Brazil and it should be a lot easier to play Brazil without Neymar. A draw suits Venezuela fine here especially as it near enough ensures they are into the knockout stages so I don’t see them being too ambitious in this match which should be enough to keep them nicely inside a handicap line. 3. 4pts England U21 to beat Sweden U21 17/20 Bet365 One thing we are going to see in this match is whether England truly are disadvantaged by not selecting the full range of players available to them in this tournament. Sweden have a number of full internationals in their squad for this tournament which proved an advantage against Italy but they played over an hour with 10 men and this match comes soon after that so I’m going to back England to deliver a more composed and structured performance and get the win they need. 4. One for me tonight. 4pts Hull KR (+6.5) to beat Warrington 4/5 William Hill I like Hull KR tonight but the price on this handicap is enough for me to play with a little bit of safety in mind. Warrington are missing arguably their best player of the season so far in Ben Currie and that could lead to a big reshuffle for them. Anthony England is suspended too for his spitting incident and neither are ideal. Hull KR will be without Terry Campese but importantly they have Josh Mantellato in the side for this one and that is big for me. Maurice Blair might not be Terry Campese but he is good enough and Albert Kelly alongside him can be a real livewire. Hull KR have troubled some big sides at Craven Park this season, sides in better form and momentum than Warrington have so with Warrington needing two unanswered scores to cover this I'm happy to take the Robins on the handicap.

  5. Couple of bets for tonight. 4pts C.Reyes to beat D.Winstanley Evs Stan James Some firms are starting to have the Spanish star as the favourite for this match and I can see why. Dean Winstanley has won just one match in his last eight tournaments so something isn't right with him because he's a whole lot better than that but one thing he very much is is a confidence player and his confidence can't be very high at the minute. Cristo Reyes is still learning and adapting to life on the main tour but we see him in every European event these days and he's also in the pro tour events which is good. He came through qualifying last night so he will be in good gear going into this match unlike Winstanley who qualified for this tournament weeks ago and might be a little cold. Winstanley's lack of form has to start becoming a concern and so I like Reyes in this one. 4pts J.Lewis to beat M.Webster Evs Coral It has taken a while but Jamie Lewis is starting to show all his potential on the main tour now. He has made a semi-final and a couple of quarter finals in recent times and it is only a matter of time before the door to the final and tournament wins open. It might not be this weekend but I do like him against a Webster who just can't seem to find his best form, especially on the big stage. He misses a lot more doubles than he ever used to and that isn't good because he has never been the strongest scorer in the world. Jamie Lewis beat Mark Webster on his way to the semi-final last week and that is good as it shows that while I'm sure he looks up to his Welsh compatriot he isn't in awe of him when he plays him so with the respective form lines the way they are for these two I think Jamie Lewis can get the better of the man he partnered in the World Cup last week.

  6. And two away from the cameras.... 5pts Kent to beat Surrey 4/5 Ladbrokes I'm not always a fan of taking sides to back up from the night before but this one shouldn't be too bad because Kent were at home last night and they were finished pretty early and this is a late-ish start so they've had time to recover. They looked very good last night and James Tredwell provides me with much more confidence about them. For all Kent's abilities and inabilities this is pretty much a fade of Surrey. They will be without Sangakkara, Burns, Pietersen and Henriques tonight and Jason Roy is still on England duty so there is a massive hole in their batting line up and that is going to put pressure on a bowling attack which has been carted a couple of times this season. Kent looked good with bat and ball last night and have already given Surrey a good beating in the Blast this season and in that match Henriques and Sangakkara contributed 97 runs on that occasion. They will be missed tonight and that leads me to being confident on a Kent win. 3pts Nottinghamshire to beat Yorkshire 11/10 Paddy Power Neither of these two sides have been performing all that well in this competition but someone will win this evening and the value is on the visitors in my eyes. Yorkshire are without a lot of players to England call ups and that isn't ideal and after Root, Plunkett and Rashid were originally with England, Eoin Morgan's side have now taken Jonny Bairstow from them for tonight too which is a blow. Yorkshire do have Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell available but they've not really fired and their bowling has been very ordinary in this tournament so far. I opposed Nottinghamshire in the reverse fixture to good effect but that was a swerve because Alex Hales and Darren Sammy weren't around. Neither are around here but since then Michael Lumb has got fit again and Notts have signed Dan Christian so in effect this is the strongest side available to Nottinghamshire this evening especially given that England have dropped James Taylor off to play while they were on their way up to Durham. If both were at full strength I'd favour Nottinghamshire and so given that Yorkshire are missing some key players I'll go with the visitors as a value punt here.

  7. Two more for tonight's TV match. 4pts J.Allenby's Performance Pts - 41&Over 5/6 Bet365 This line looks a little high on the face of it but Jim Allenby will be in the game for as long as he is good enough to be. He will open the batting for Somerset in the absence of Trescothick and Gayle and he will also bowl his four overs as well. He is pretty good in the field so we can expect him to be in the key positions the longer the innings goes on so Allenby's point scoring potential is very high. Thankfully he will have a big hitter alongside him when he bats which means he can get into his innings at a nice pace before going bigger later. His cutters and canny medium pace often takes wickets in this format of the game and after a solid all round performance in that dramatic Championship game in midweek Allenby's confidence should be very high. An average day with bat and ball covers this as does a special one with either so I like the chances of Allenby covering this. 1pt T.Cooper Top Somerset Batsman 6/1 Coral Even though I fancy Allenby to go well I think there is a bit of value in the Australian born Dutch international here. It appears bookmakers haven't noticed that Trescothick isn't in Somerset's squad tonight but that makes Cooper a nice price given that he's likely to bat a place higher than he has been doing. That blitz he delivered against Glamorgan last week shows that he's hitting the ball nicely and a repeat of that can see him chase any score that is posted before he gets into bat. I've been waiting a while for Cooper to deliver the goods for Somerset this season and now that he has done it hopefully we can cash in with a consistent spell of form from the South Australian.

  8. Early 3 ball bet. Hopefully there's more luck around than yesterday :hope. 4pts R.Fowler to beat T.Woods & L.Oosthuizen 6/4 BetVictor Match tees off at 16.28 BST. There was plenty of optimism around Rickie Fowler heading into this tournament, myself included. All the talk was how he was tearing this course up in practice but it all went wrong for him on Thursday and he is playing purely for pride this afternoon. I don't believe he can play as poorly again here though and I'm happy to take him to produce a good round here. We saw last week how the weight of expectation got the better of Bernd Wiesberger in the first round in Austria but then with the pressure off he came back in style and I expect something similar from the Players champion this afternoon. He doesn't become a bad player overnight after all. Speaking of bad players, how bad is Tiger right now? He isn't even awful he's that bad and for me he's a total non runner in this 3 ball barring something bordering on a miraculous turnaround which surely can't happen. None of these three are making the cut but I fancy Fowler to be more up for this round than Oosthuizen is. The South African still has problems with his back and I can't see him wanting to cart a ball around here with much enthusiasm when he won't be here at the weekend. His time will come later in the year but today can be Rickie's time again in terms of scoring the lowest in this group.

  9. Game 1 preview: 4pts Barbados Tridents to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 10/11 William Hill I like the balance of the Barbados side this season and they seem to have done well to sign players who are available straight away. Given that this is their home leg in the tournament it is important for them to be at full strength from the off. The Tridents players will want to give the passionate home crowds something to cheer and with T20 specialists Smith, Pollard and Holder to get behind the crowds should come flooding in. Barbados look better balanced of the two sides here and can land this opener. 10. Big fight previews: 4pts A.Ward to win on points 13/8 Betfred This is the third time Smith will be in at this level and while there was a lot of controversy about his first fight with Abraham it shouldn’t be forgotten that although the scorecards were well out of line with the fight itself he did actually lose the fight. Abraham then exposed him next time. I’m not sure Ward will expose Smith. I think Smith will go in with a solid defence and a counter attack gameplan but I don’t see him being good enough to execute it. For me the question is whether Ward will stop Smith. He has only stopped 14 of his 27 victims and with 19 months out of the ring his timing might be off so I think there is plenty of value in Ward winning this one on points. 4pts S.Porter to beat A.Broner 10/11 William Hill Shawn Porter is naturally the bigger man here and could still have been world champion had he not run into Kell Brook on the wrong night. I don’t think we should hold that against him by any means. Brook is a classy operator who could go on and do big things in the division but Porter’s power interests me here. I don’t think Broner is a big puncher and once ‘Showtime’ Porter works that out I think he’ll start setting himself and letting the gloves go. Personally I’d have Porter a stronger favourite than he is so I’ll take him in this one. 13. Saturday previews: 4pts Uruguay vs Paraguay - Under 2 goals 1.97 BetVictor I don’t see this being a free scoring classic. Matches in this group have been very tight even when Jamaica have been involved and this is all set to be just as tight for me. Uruguay are struggling in front of goal but there are no struggles when it comes to defending, they’re doing fine there. Paraguay are competent defensively and nothing special going forward so under 2 goals looks tasty enough for me. Jamaica haven’t really looked like scoring in this tournament yet and they’re not going to get into many scoring positions in this match. I’m actually amazed you can get 7/10 on Argentina winning to nil but I’ll happily jump all over it. 14. 4pts Denmark U21 (+0.75AH) to beat Germany U21 1.98 Ladbrokes I think Denmark will give as good as they get in this match and I think the bet is to take them on a handicap of some kind. The Asian line gives them a 0.75 goal head start which means Germany have to win by two to deliver a full loss. I think Denmark score in this match and so I don’t see them losing by two. In fact I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they don’t lose at all. Full preview here: https://www.punterslounge.com/germany-u21-vs-denmark-u21-betting-denmark-can-seal-a-semi-final-spot-with-a-win

  15. 5th ODI preview: 5pts England Most 6s 11/10 Coral We’re in for a high scoring match here I’m fairly sure of that but the bet I would rather take is for England to hit the most sixes. This has landed for me personally in the last two ODIs but in total England have the most in all four matches so far. 13 sixes weren’t enough for New Zealand to win at The Oval and 10 sixes weren’t enough to keep England at bay at Trent Bridge so you wonder just how many will keep England quiet. With a number of England players used to playing on the ground, not least Ben Stokes and Mark Wood you would think they would know the areas to bowl to avoid being carted and which balls can be clobbered and which can’t. Amazingly after four sixes wins out of four England are still odds against to hit the most here but that suits me nicely. 16. Tournament preview: 3pts Jamaica Tallawahs to win Caribbean Premier League 5/2 Betfred I have this tournament between two sides – Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Zouks. I wouldn’t complete dismiss Barbados but it is the first two who I expect to compete in the final and although they’re the favourites for the tournament I can’t see past Jamaica. The quality they have in their bowling attack is there for all to see and with Gayle in the form he is in he could single-handedly take them to the title. If he doesn’t then Mahela Jayawardene or Andre Russell could so Jamaica have plenty of matchwinners which is what you need in this tournament. 17. The next European Tour event takes place this weekend (a weekend ahead of previous schedule due to next week's tournament in Japan). The tour heads back to Germany for what should be another exciting week of darts. Most players off to Japan next week have sacked this one off their schedule but MVG is playing. 18. Opening round 3 ball bets. 3pts M.Warren to beat J.Dufner & M.Every 2/1 Ladbrokes Match tees off at 16.50 BST. My mantra for three ball bets today is to take players with links experience against those with not so much links experience and who are poor scramblers and Marc Warren has landed in a lovely group here. Both Jason Dufner and Matt Every rank outside the top 100 for scrambling on the PGA Tour and while they have other credentials which make them the players they are neither are what you would call long and certainly in Dufner's case isn't a good putter either. Marc Warren is rapidly heading towards the overrated draw in my eyes but this test should suit him a lot more than his playing partners and I would imagine that he'll be comfortable here. Dufner can be a bit mardy so if things don't go his way early he could easily save the mental energies for weeks that are more to his liking while even though Matt Every keeps taming Bay Hill this course might not suit him. Warren looks good at this price. 3pts D.Willett to beat R.Palmer & J.Luiten 7/4 Ladbrokes Match tees off at 21.44 BST. Willett doesn't quite fit the same profile as Warren in terms of the weakness of his opponents but I do think he will prove the strongest in this three ball. Ryan Palmer's feelings on this course have been well documented and I really do believe a liking for this golf course is necessary this week. He may go well under tournament conditions but he's not for me and I'm not convinced Joost Luiten is long enough for this course. We know Danny Willett has a wonderful temperament. You don't place where he did in Ireland recently if you don't and he was seemingly enjoying himself on a long week at the Matchplay when others were starting to tire so I think Willett will be fine here. He has the all round game to cope with the test of this course and if things don't go his way he has the ability to put that behind him and get on with the job. Someone who does that the best this week will place high up and Willett's temperament, as well as his game, can see him lead this group home today. 4pts S.Lowry to beat B.Martin & S.Gallacher 6/4 Betway Match tees off at 22.39 BST. Shane Lowry has a nice draw here in terms of winning this three ball. Stephen Gallacher's pre-tournament preparations went all wrong when his caddie went belly up in a practice round and has ended up in a cast which could keep him out of the tournament. He will have a local caddie if his regular one can't do the job but all the plans he and his regular caddie will have put in place will largely go out of the window. The local guy might know the course but not the man so it isn't ideal. Gallacher's form isn't ideal either so I'm happy to reduce this down to a match between Lowry and Martin. Ben Martin is down at 142 in the scrambling stats on the PGA Tour and he won't have played too much links golf in his career. I'm actually a fan of Ben Martin but this doesn't seem like his sort of test. Lowry grew up in these conditions and he looked relaxed during a practice round with McDowell earlier in the week. That should turn into the lowest score in this group today.

  19. Couple more T20 bets for tonight. 4pts S.Northeast Over 22.5 runs 5/6 Ladbrokes Sam Northeast is in superb form right now. He has covered this line in five of Kent's seven matches in the competition this season and against a modest Essex attack I'm expecting him to go well again here. He is the man that Kent all look to bat around so he is unlikely to get out slogging early in his innings like some who will come in after him and being the captain of the side he will use that responsibility to make sure he does nothing stupid. Northeast is on the fringes of the England one day squads so a good performance here will do him no harm and I fancy him to make it to 23 and beyond in this match. 4pts Leicestershire to beat Derbyshire 4/5 Betway Leicestershire have already beaten Derbyshire this season and look in good enough shape to do it again. They will be without Kevin O'Brien for this match as he is away on international duty but they still have some great batsmen in their ranks in the form of Cosgrove, Eckersley, Niall O'Brien, Boyce and Umar Akmal and their bowling attack is an underrated one. Andrew McDonald gets and understands one day cricket and Leicestershire are a side who traditionally go well in this tournament. Derbyshire have Dilshan back after he missed the Championship match in the week but their bowling attack was taken to the cleaners by Northants when they were on the box last week and Lancashire smashed it even further so they clearly need to improve in that area of the field. Wayne Madsen should add some extra pep to their batting form but that isn't where they've struggled. Leicestershire are well balanced and I fancy them to take this one down.

  20. True, but it does mean that 9 of the 18 holes were birdied, so it may not be as tough as we are led to believe.. Some experts in the US are predicting a winning score of +2, +3.. Others are saying -2, -5... I guess we will know where we stand after Round 1. Good luck mate.
Cheers :ok It does but practice and the main thing are different beasts. There was a photo doing the rounds that Fowler and Mickelson were lining each others putts up which obviously they won't be doing in the main event. I suspect the USGA have kept a couple of surprises up their sleeve too. They hate under par winning and after Kaymer tore their course a new hole last year I'm expecting them to take no prisoners this year.
  21. Yeah I heard that. What that doesn't say is what the other one shot on the holes that one of them birdied though! With over par winning in 4 of the last 8 events on courses which are regulars on the US Open circuit and even the PGA Tour circuit in some cases I'm happy to take my chances here at the price.

  22. One more tournament bet for me before the off. 5pts Winning score to be over par 13/8 Skybet I'm amazed over par is this price. On what I would call normal golf courses, compared to this one at least, over par has been the winning score in four of the last eight tournaments if we exclude Rory McIlroy's win in 2011. I'm only excluding that because the course was so soft there was nothing the USGA could do to toughen it up like they like to do. In fact since 2005, again excluding 2011, only 10 players have shot under par in a US Open and three of those were last year so shooting under par is never easy in a US Open. Now add this course into the mix and that is where my confidence is strengthened further. Some of the top names in the game have written this course off as awful. I've heard comments such as 'links golf on crack' and 'it is golf on acid' so clearly an easy test shouldn't be expected and like has been posted above Gmac has gone on record as saying he thinks 10 over par could win. I watched a periscope he did earlier in the week and he said even par 'will win easily'. As a former US Open and a links specialist if he thinks that then we should really take notice. No rain is forecast this week and the golf course is completely in the hands of the USGA who really like to protect par. From all the pictures and periscope's I've seen the course looks rock hard and being brutally honest scorched to the point that it looks really poor. It is a course the longer hitters will have the better chance on but the longer hits often leads to less accuracy so I'm all over the winning score being over par this week. Anyone who shoots four rounds of level par or better around this track deserves all the credit they will get. I don't see it happening though.

  23. Friday previews: 4pts Mexico vs Ecuador - Over 2.5 goals Evs Bet365 I fancy goals in this match. Ecuador have nothing to lose and have shown they can’t defend even if they did have something to protect whereas Mexico will want to win and win well to have a chance of moving up the group. It isn’t beyond possibilities that they win the group yet so they will be after a goal or two along the way as well but on the balance of the way Ecuador matches have gone so far I’m reasonably confident we’ll get three goals here and possibly a few more besides. Full preview here: https://www.punterslounge.com/mexico-vs-ecuador-betting-mexico-go-in-search-of-unexpected-quarter-final-place 4pts Chile (-1) to beat Bolivia Evs Skybet The big problem I have for Bolivia is how do they contain and stop this Chile attacking line. They struggled against a moderate Ecuador side so how they are going to fare defensively against a rampant Chile attack remains to be seen. I’m not so sure they will see enough of the ball to pose the threat going the other way that they did against Ecuador and Chile certainly won’t make the daft defensive mistakes Ecuador did against Bolivia so I expect nothing but a comfortable Chile win here. 24. Friday TV preview: 4pts Gloucestershire vs Somerset - Over 10.5 sixes 5/6 Coral I’m not sure I trust either bowling attack to deliver in this match so that makes the best bet to be over 10.5 sixes here. Somerset have some big hitters in their ranks and they are used to going big at Taunton and with the hotel in place at Bristol these days the boundary down to that side of the ground isn’t as big as it once was. Somerset’s bowling attack lacks plenty of depth without the Overton twins so Gloucestershire should put up a score themselves so I’m expecting the ball to fly here.
