  1. If signing up to Skrill for the first time, please click on the linked word Skrill in the opening post or this one. This is the official Punters Lounge link and helps the forum to keep providing all of the content and added value events for members benefit. Many thanks.

Let's get a good number regged & taking part to prove that it's worth running a league later on in January/Feb. :ok

Re: What do you hope to achieve in poker in 2015? Hope to be back pokering in 2015, albeit on a very low key basis again, at least initially. Health issues may still limit the number of live events I'm able to attend and may go through frequent inactivity spells.

    1. Meet up with as many PL members as possible for beer, banter & bellylaughs
    2. Live: Will try to qualify cheaply into at least one each of 25/25, GUKPT & GPS tours, health willing, maybe a UKIPT too but depends on locations. Very much doubt we'll see Poker Mag tour this year but will try to support as many as possible if they run.
    3. Online: May try to develop my cash game more, always been the worse aspect of my game and any improvement may help to refine tournament play further. The odd Sunday Majors from satellites are also probably achievable.
    4. Work on reducing frustration & tilt. Yep the perennial tricking one!
    5. Any profit is a bonus but would be aiming for 4 figures again subject to finding sufficient time to play.

Would be nice to get my first official Hendon flag (online GPS title & GUKPT Sats didn't count) and Vegas with $1k & $500 events now is tempting but these might not be realistic just yet. Good luck everyone in whatever you're looking to achieve this year, large or small. :ok

First line pretty much summed it up, didn't expect to be doing much and frequently inactive for long periods but:

    1. Managed to make it to the Punters Lounge Live event in Brum & Goliath in Coventry. So great to meet up with many established friends and make some new ones. PL Live is always an absolute highlight of the year for me, if you haven't been to one yet, do try to make it next year - it's a blast :ok Also great to meet up with Kev, Tony & others at Goliath, really good being part of a bigger team & railing when busto.
    2. Need to look back at my records (yep I record literally every tourney/satellite/cash table played and every cent won & lost), but vaguely recall having a few lame stabs at 25/25, GUKPT & GPS satellites. Usual thing of getting through to a few online final qualifiers but then playing rediculously poor.
    3. Have played a little more cash games than usual, but still find it utterly tedious and eventually I start to donk just for some action. More structure needed if I ever take it up seriously. Played a couple of bigger tourneys from satellite wins with the odd minor cash, nothing to write home about.
    4. Lack of volume mainly due to frustration & tilt, add to 2016 list lol.
    5. Again need to check my spreadsheet, but expected to be no more than region of +£80 to +£140. Tad more on top if you count a couple of converted 'free bets'. Extreme lack of any volume of tourneys meant no major gains (or losses).

Unexpected (& undeserved) bonus was my first non-Holdem live cash in the Punters Lounge - PLO ;)

One that's caught my eye today:

Pokerstars (today only) are running mini versions of some of their majors with buyins at 10% of the bigger versions but running the same structure.

Added value comes from them randomly giving away seats to the bigger version every 10mins during the mini tournament. Again a long shot, but good chance to play a big field at a fraction of the buyin and you never know maybe a shot at the bigs for free too?

Ok might just be 10mins into tourney and not every 10mins. Descriptions in email & website confusing, but hey check the lobbies/website if interested.

We are issuing players with a free twister token within the next hour ....

All players with a poker account and have deposited previously will receive a token worth either €1, €2, €5, or €10.

These token can only be used for twister tournaments and will expire at midnight on Friday 18th December.

Achieved nothing with my €1 token, but to be fair I did play it horrendously ;)

    Hi Doc,

This is obviously an old obsolete thread dating back to 2014, so assume you are asking a general question, or maybe having a bit of a dig at the OP ;)

Simple answer is that you/they probably wouldn't. Most members would be looking for as much reassurance and data to back up past experience/performance as possible. The most successful stakings/equity swaps are always totally upfront & honest with an overload of available data & open to many questions. Not suggesting OP done anything wrong in this thread, members can of course post up as much or as little as they want.

Readers should also check out the following stickied threads if contemplating posting up a staking request or post.

    Enjoy your poker.

  10. Ok, here's a quick hit thread to post up any bits of Christmas or regular value that you find on your reindeer travels.

    Genting

Providing a couple of Freerolls with GPS tokens added, 4th & 5th Dec (maybe longer), freezeout, turbo & will end after 50mins.

These are in addition to the regular GPS pennyrolls.

Stan James (probably MPN network wide)

Daily Freerolls to win micro (€0.25, €1 or €2) MPNPT tour tokens. All-in flips, reg & no need to turn up. Takes some grinding, but can pick up a few bigger tokens or consolation cash with a little bit of effort.

    Coral

Login freerolls still appear to be active, but not sure for how much longer. All in flips, massive fields but £50 up top. Log in, reg & check whether win anything the following day.

  11. Ooh sneaky!

Might still be some value there if you are playing cash tables regularly. Probably one to just forget though, play your usual game and check on progress occasionally.

Think that particular one would make me limp far too many pocket pairs than is good for me, -ve value if it changes your game too much ;)

  12. New tour dates posted below, will improve the formatting soon when I get more time.

  13. Pinned at top alongside the other tours.

Thanks for posting CowsOnTilt. I'll be totally upfront and brutally honest with you and every other member here. There are 2 main reasons why this wasn't posted up before now, they are:

    1. I made a promise a long time back that I would never promote any Partypoker product or event ever again. This followed many previous incidents of them not honouring payouts of their own official promotions (some of which are well documented within these forum pages & do not need to be revisited again). More than happy for others to post/promote however especially in the interest of members as a whole and where events are well run, payouts are honoured and/or provide value.
    2. Sadly, these days it seems that unless something is posted by myself or one of the very small band of core-contributors, no-one else seems to be bother and will just keep information on fun or value events to themselves.

Thankfully there are those core-contributors like your good self that are prepared to spend a few moments helping others and I for one very much appreciate your efforts and thank you for posting. :ok

  14. This is a great hand for post-analysis. Think it through carefully (stack sizes, relative to blinds, pot size, how it's played out etc) and post what you are thinking and how you would've genuinely played it. Be totally honest with yourselves. Remember there are no right or wrong answers but thinking it through with others who have different ways of looking at it helps us all to develop our game.

Video courtesy of Grosvenor gukpt.com & it's facebook page.

Will post my thoughts just as soon as i work out how to use the spoiler facility on here. Feel free to let me know your thoughts on mine too but post yours first without looking at the spoilers ;)

  15. Hi capri,

Good to hear you're doing well on these. There will still be a considerable amount of variance on these as with any poker format. Obviously the longer the structure (slower the clock), the more your own skill will come to the fore whereas the quicker the clock, the bigger role luck/variance will play. So find a structure that works for you and stick with it is probably the best advice I can give.

I would suggest that a good solid Bankroll Management (BRM) should be used on whatever poker format is played. All types of sit & go's are notoriously very swingy and a well structured BRM will allow for moving up when running good, but also help protect your current gains from losses in a downswing.

Actual BRM is very subjective, 50x buyins is often thought the norm for sng's with no less than 30x buyins recommended, but it is entirely up to you. In the past I've often adjusted BRM according to the amount at stake, higher BRM once a decent balance was built up to provide more protection.

    Some other aspects worth considering:

    • Your win rate will usually decrease the higher you move up as the proportion of regular players to fish increases
    • You really need a decent volume of results (1,000+ games) in order to get an accurate estimate of your win rate
    • Tournament fee/rake can make a big difference to your overall profit. 10% fee is typical, sometimes reducing to 6% on higher buyins, but 20% is becoming more frequent on really small buyins. Overcoming 20% fees is difficult (but not impossible) for even skilled players over longer periods.
    • ICM Push/Fold is pretty key in sng's, regular practice on a decent ICM trainer is incredibly useful in helping to maintain or improve your win rate.
    • Player traits are often easier to identify in Double or Nothing sng's than in other sng formats. Make good use of your colour coding/player notes to indicate which players are tight and trying to hold on, which are maniacs etc.
    • Grinding sng's for long periods can become pretty mundane, make sure you take regular breaks to keep your mind focused.

So after all my whaffle, the short answer is yes, if you are happy with how you're doing, have the funds available for a decent attempt at the higher level and are confident it won't adversely affect your game, go for it, but just 1 level at a time and keep reassessing as you go. It could just be you're running insanely good at the moment and it might not last, so steady as you go ;)

    Good luck & have fun!
