  1. Re: IS Ante-Post a scam? If a bookmaker offer odds on a horse which clearly isn't going to run then surely they are scamming the public. I have noted on a few occassions over the years W Hills doing exactly this. They have been rather slow in remving withdrawn horses from their markets , whilst their competitors have already removed the horse in question. I would imagine this may be due to a rougue worker within the organisation rather than W Hills policy. After all if there is any betting news regarding a horse , the bookies would be one of the first to know , a lot sooner than the wider betting public. Taking bets on a withdrawn horse would be unethical in my book.

  2. Re: question In regards to the locked thread i understand your reasoning but there was no sign of any spam/links. I don't come on here on a daily basis but I recall an interesting thread about betting shops which disappeared. Rather than deleting/locking threads couldn't you give them warnings.

  3. Why was the " Pay as you win tipsters " thread locked ? Seems the guy was merely asking a question. What was so bad that it was locked ? It would have been interesting to hear punters views on the topic. It looks like some on here want to stifle discussions /topics / debates. I noticed other discussions on here locked / disappeared. We are all adults on here , isn't there a little too much censorship. Surely no one on here has really been offended , other than personal attacks. For a gambling site its not very punter friendly when over 90% of the posts on here are merely tips.

  4. Re: Racing trying to get the wider public into horse racing From a punting perspective I agree with Trotter , I like smaller fields it requires less studying time and it is easier to get a return. From a viewing perspective I would like to see bigger fields in the top class races. The Gr1 Tingle Creek Chase the second most important 2m chase in the season , one of my personal favs , often has tiny fields. This may be down to lack of suitable horses rather than marketing or promtion. As to the OP , why should it bother us that others aren't attracted to the sport ? t doesn't make any difference to us punters anyway. Its pretty much , you like horse racing or you don't. You can't make people like it by making it cheaper to go to the courses or having pop concerts afterwards. Its pretty much a class thing too. Your avarage council estate resident isn't going to be converted if he has no interest in horse racing. Whereas somebody from a higher social class could be tempted more easily.

  5. Re: Saturday Afternoons - Flat V Jumps

To be fair I stopped reading at "ultra competitive handicaps". Just one thing, the Welsh National has never been abandoned except in 95-96. Was postponed last year and that's about it.
The big races between now and Christmas ARE ultra competitive handicaps these are the ones the bookies love. The Tingle Creek will have a tiny field like most years you'll be lucky to bet EW 123. Yes the Welsh National was abandoned a few times in the 90s thats what I was talking about , also one race before or after those dates you mentioned it was run at some other track , can't remember where , if you can recall the race it was the one which Master Oats won by half the track , he went on to destroy the Cheltenham Gold field later in his career.
  6. Re: Saturday Afternoons - Flat V Jumps I much prefer the flat but I wish they would spread out the decent races rather than have them all during the festivals. As for the jumps , there doesn't seem to be as many decent races and its a shame quite a few get abandoned each year like the Welsh National and Great Yorkshire Chase and don't get rescheduled. As for the big weekend races , its the bookies who hype them up. Most weeks they will be ultra competitive handicaps , not Gr1/2 races. Each Tuesday for the rest of the season the bookies will issue a statement saying horse X,Y or Z has been gambled on in the hope mug money will follow.Whatever the big race is this comming saturday something "will be backed" tommorrow. The actual decent races tend to be uncompetitive and not big bettng races. Most likely the Betfair Chase and Tingle Creek comming up will have a hot favorite , 2 with a small chance and the rest no hopers.

  7. Re: Market Move It was no surprise to see that the horse came last of 12 the day after winning easily the day before. It was a well backed 2nd favourite too. As mentioned elswhere on this forum when pondering as to whether you should back a G Baker horse , form , no matter how good should not be exclusively used as a guide to future performances. ATR forum members will save a few quid if you keep that tip in mind.

  8. Re: Paul Hanagan worst Champion Jockey for years ?

Is that the way it is? Genuine question. In my head i've imagined it as Hanagan asking Fahey what kind of chance the horse has, or Fahey saying he doesnt really fancy the horses chances much so if he wants an outside ride with a better chance to go for it.
This is pretty much it. If it has no chance he'll ride something which does.
  9. Re: Paul Hanagan worst Champion Jockey for years ?

Hanagan doesn't 'shy away' from the big meetings. He has a contractual agreement with Richard Fahey, for whom he had 474(!) rides this year. If Fahey has runners at Catterick rather than Ascot or Newmarket then that is where Hanagan goes. If in future Fahey has more high-class runners then Hanagan will naturally ride more winners at the top meetings, partly from Fahey and partly from the good spare rides he will then be able to pick up. For example, prior to this year he had only ever had one ride for Saeed Bin Suroor, and this year he had ten (three wins), and he also had a lot more rides for William Haggas in 2011 than previously. Hanagan seems like a very hard-working, talented and likable guy, and I'm sure he has the 'potential' to ride lots of Group 1 winners. However, as of right now he has achieved a 'quantity' of wins, but not the 'quality' of wins of such outstanding past champions as Piggott, Carson, Cauthen, Eddery, Dettori and Fallon.
I'm sure Hanagan throughout the season had many offers of riding decent horses at decent meetings but turned them down in order to ride odds on shots at Redcar and Mussleburgh. Your argument about R Fahey doesn't quite stick because on many occassions he's ridden at a meeting for outside stables whilst Fahey's runners are ridden by Topliss/Tylikcki. The same applies to Godophins number 1 , Dettori has on occassions ridden high class horses for other stables elsewhere when his stable has had runners at a different meeting. So what i am saying is that even though he is retained jockey he does not have to ride if he does not wish. You are right that he's had a few more mounts for Godolphin this year but they have also supported Fallon and SDS equally. I've been a big fan of Godolphin since day 1 when trained by Hilal Ibrihim. But this year it seems they are putting any old Tom Dick or Harry on board even Turner and Mongon have had rides too , although Sophie Mitchell did get a ride once during the 90s.
  10. Re: Paul Hanagan worst Champion Jockey for years ?

As for the last comment, don't be ridiculous. You can't say he's not a top jockey just because he hasn't ridden in the big races. For 2 years running he's ridden more winners than anyone else and won the championship on merit. If you mean that in the future he will prove himself to be a top jockey by going to the big meetings and winning, then perhaps I agree. However, to say he isn't yet a top jockey is bordering on ridiculous. (in my opinion of course!)
Why can't i say he's not top class at the moment , it is my genuine opinion and i'm sure theres plenty of silent members on here who'll agree. I'm not in any way saying he's a poor jockey , far from it . But at this moment in time he's not top class . He's not in the same league as Fallon , Dettori , Spencer , Murtagh etc. Saying that he is a similar age to Fallon before he got his big break as stable jockey to H Cecil. If you recall he was nothing more than a journeyman jockey handicapping horses for Mrs Ramsden for her husband to gamble on. I am saying that in the next season or two he will be competing in bigger races against the established big boys rather than shy away by going to Catterick.
  11. Re: Paul Hanagan worst Champion Jockey for years ? Congratulations to Paul Hanagan for winning the jockey championship for the second year running. It was fortunate for him that Ryan Moore was injured again and he took full advantage by taking more mounts than anybody else which paid off. I think SDS would have taken it had he not been required to ride in foreign classics/top class races in Europe as well as a mount in the Melbourne cup. Whether Hanagan can do it a third time remains to be seen.I think he has a bright future ahead and will be a top jockey sooner than later.

  12. Re: Market Move Culhane just won the 7.00 at Wolves on 40/1 shot Desert Icon tained by David Flood. I mentioned on another thread that this was a combination to watch. The horse is clearly in good recent form and last time out was raced over 2 furlongs longer than todays winning trip possibly in order to ensure a good SP.

  13. Re: Virtual horse racing - list of bookies

! It seems that virtual horse racing has no future.
I have to disagree here. Whilst most of the people who visit this site are clued up or are willing to learn. There will always be punters who will throw their money away on these virtual products.I'd be quite shocked if any body from here bets on virtual racing on a regular basis. Its one of the ways bookies are widening their appeal , which includes roulette , sports betting , numbers betting ,lotteries betting etc etc.Even Ladbrokes produce quickslips for betting on the X Factor !!!
  14. Re: Market Move

No surprise there. Tony Culhane riding for George Baker' date=' the biggest fiddlers in the game! Will probably win, when their cash is down they seldom leave it behind![/quote'] I am of the same opinion , totally agree. Well done for highlighting this for the good of punting. Will be very useful information for new punters
  15. Re: What's your favourite horse(s) in training?

I think the fact Paul Webber isn't the most fashionable trainer (for all he does have some decent horses
He isn't popular because punters and owners know he cannot be trusted. He along with one of the Sherwood brothers decided to pull a con job when selling one of his horses to a potential owner.Everytime his potential owner made a bid Sherwood would make a counter bid therefore increasing the sale price for Webber , who acted as a bloodstock agent. Sorry to divert slightly from OP , but this forum is dedicated to helping punters with gambling tips and mine is that he cannot be trusted. I try to avoid backing his horses whenever possible. Back to OP , have to agree with BH , The Tatling , if only more horses ran with as much enthusiasm. Was gutted for the horse when twice he narrowly failed to win the L'Abbaye.Hope he continues and wins more races.I recall a horse called "??? Sailor " a winning 15 Yr old chaser lets hope The Tatling can match that feat of the sprint course. Over jumps it has to be Kauto Star. I've followed him since he first came here.He was the horse which Ruby fell off and remounted to come second , resulting in the curent no remounting rule.He is a totally consistant horse with wins in each season. Lets hope this continues with more Cheltenham festivals ahead.Would very much like to see this fan favorite to carry on racing to the same age as The Tatling by cleaning up in races like the Cheltenham Fox Hunters Chase , Whitbread , Welsh National and even the Grand National.
  16. Re: Frankel's full-brother runs at Yarmouth on Tuesday

Yarmouth maidens especially this time of year tend to be very strong as some of the big Newmarket based yards use them for a run as was clear today in the first 4 races today plenty of horses with fancy entries and costing a fortune!
I recall in the late 90s getting a phonecall in regards to a David Loder trained 2 year old making his debut in this race over the mile at Yarmouth.I was told to lump on and it duly won by a mile. Prior to making his debut they changed his name from something like Yaazer to Dubai Millenium ! Only time will tell if Noble Mission reaches the same heights as Dubai Millenium but i think the race was selected with the historical value in mind.
