5.00 Listowel: Grade B Handicap Hurdle, 2m The ground has decimated the field and should be the deciding factor in the race. The favourite makes plenty of appeal as the bottom weight and may well have too much to offer, however is untested on really soft ground. So chance is taken on Misty Lady, a proven soft ground performer who has won over two miles in the past. Infact she absolutely loves the mud and also stays further. I can see her being positively ridden today to make it a really stiff test which should suit her best. She has won earlier this year off a 10lb lower mark. This form stacks up well and she run with credit of her current mark subsequently, although switched to the flat then , she hasn't shown any form in her last handful of starts. Back over hurdles, with conditions sure to suit, she is a big price against the favourite though. Misty Lady @ 14/1 William Hill

1.40 Newmarket – Betway Fillies´ Nursery Handicap Richard Fahey has always thought plenty of Awohaam and as a result she was sent off favourite for a maiden at the Craven meeting, which was won by Kurland. She stepped up to six furlongs next time and whilst that brought some improvement, she was no match for subsequent Albany Stakes runner-up Ashadihan. The step up to seven furlongs saw her get her head in front for the first time and was probably worth more than the neck winning distance suggested. She met trouble in running that day but had the class to get up close home and land the spoils. The family in general have tended to have plenty of stamina so it seems seven for now should be perfect for her. I don’t think the handicapper has been too harsh on her giving her a mark of 78 although she will need to improve follow up here. Bahaarah who represents the Richard Hannon stable stepped forward from her debut third here to win at Doncaster last month. She beat a nice filly of Sir Michael Stoute’s that day although she did have the benefit of experience over that rival. Her jockey was very complimentary about her on the day and after just two starts there should be more to come. She is qualified for all of the Tattersalls Millions races later in the year, which I imagine will be her Autumn targets but she should show up well again here. The Godolphin filly Blossomtime tops the weights and was perhaps a touch unfortunate not to finish closer in a six furlongs nursery here last time. She could finish only seventh that day but was snatched up quite badly but still ran on in the closing stages to be beaten less than five lengths. Conceding weight all around will not be easy here with several of her rivals having only had a couple of runs but she has entries in the Cheveley Park and the Rockfel later in the year which suggest she could be a bit better than handicap company. She should be able to step forward from her last run stepping up to seven furlongs and in an open contest, she gets the tentative vote. 2.00 Newbury – Denford Stud Stakes (Listed Race) The form of the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood looks likely to be examined here as Palawan and TWIN SAILS who finished third and fourth respectively both take their chances here. The first mentioned drifted over to the stands rail under pressure and was beaten less than a length at the line. When horses hang like that it is often said that they would have won had they stayed straight but it is not always as simple as that. He has had a little more racing than some of his rivals as this will be his sixth start but the yard’s juveniles tend to hold their form and he should be thereabouts. However, I think he might have his work cut out to confirm the placings with Dean Ivory’s colt who won his first two starts before Goodwood. This seven furlongs might suit him a little better than the Goodwood seven he ran over last time and if he can continue his improvement he shouldn’t be too far away. The presence of Pivotal in the pedigree gives me hope that we will handle the soft ground and following the defection of both Cymric and Fleeting Visit, he gets the nod. 2.35 Newbury – Betfred Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) John Gosden’s Romsdal put a couple of poor runs behind him when switched to front-running duties in the King George at Ascot last time. Although he was no match for the first two home, he stayed on well to hold onto third although having run so well at 1m6f in the St Leger last year, I am not surprised to see him go back up in trip. He probably just lacks the turn of foot at 1m4f in the top races but I would not be surprised to see him try and make the running again here. He is pretty consistent and with a couple of notable non-runners he looks likely to run well. His main danger could be Sir Mark Prescott’s PALLASATOR who has shown on soft ground in the past, winning on heavy at Haydock a few years ago. He also ran well in the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day last year on bottomless ground and with the rain continuing to fall at Newbury, it could turn into a real war of attrition. He didn’t finish too far behind the main protagonists in the Goodwood Cup last time and with the ground seemingly coming in his favour, he gets the slight nod ahead of Romsdal. 2.50 Newmarket – Betway Price Blitz Stakes (Handicap) We have a wide open 3yo sprint handicap to get our teeth into here and the weights are topped by Burnt Sugar who showed signs of a return to form when fourth in the International at Ascot a few weeks ago. With two furlongs to run, he was travelling as well as anything in the race but he got bumped soon after and although he ran on, he could only finish fourth. A Group 3 winner over six furlongs as a two-year-old, a strongly run six furlongs should play to his strengths again here. The blinkers are retained and if he can produce a repeat of his latest run, I can’t see him being too far away. William Haggas looks to hold a strong hand with Mubtaghaa and Roossey and I slightly prefer the chances of the latter, who was last seen chasing home subsequent Stewards’ Cup winner Magical Memory here last month. That was just his second run this season and he seemed to have come on for his initial outing in a competitive race at York. He was given plenty to do last time and has only gone up 3lb on the back of that run. There is no Magical Memory to worry about here and he looks primed to put in a big performance here. The one with the least experience in the field is Clive Cox’s Ice Lord who having raced over seven furlongs and a mile on his first two starts, was dropped back to six to good effect last time. He made all in the hands of John Fahy and bounded clear in the closing stages to win by eight lengths at the line. The form of the race is hard to assess but his previous runs had seen him not beaten far by Mutarakez and Intilaaq who are good performers in their own right. In truth he could be anything and a mark of 87 could look a little lenient on Saturday evening. In terms of the winner, I can’t see HANDSOME DUDE being too far away having run well over course and distance last time. There were a host of non-runners that day but he took his chance and looked to be travelling well but couldn’t pick up like the winner in the soft ground. There is rain forecast for the weekend but I don’t see it getting too soft and I think he could reverse the places following a pull in the weights. The fitting of blinkers for the first time should also bring about further improvement and in an open race, he looks to have plenty going in his favour. 3.00 Ripon – William Hill Silver Trophy Handicap These sorts of races are notoriously difficult puzzles to solve but you can often find one or two at prices which can pay few losers along the way. The punter’s friend David O’Meara continues to produce winner after winner and whilst he does have three runners at his disposal here, the pick must be Flyman who won over course and distance here just a couple of weeks ago. The five-year-old had been steadily slipping down the handicap for the yard this term but was following a more encouraging effort at Doncaster in July, he was fitted with a visor last time and it seemed to do the trick as he ended his lengthy losing sequence. He only went up a couple of pounds for his latest win which meant he just missed the cut for the main race, but he has found himself a nice race here and with Daniel Tudhope seemingly preferring him over the other runners in the stable, deserves a place on any shortlist. Also drawn in the high numbers is Ruth Carr’s Meshardal who ventured south to Newmarket only last week and found only one too good in the shape of Steve Prescott. He is perhaps flying a bit high in the handicap at the moment but he won off a 3lb lower mark in June so he doesn’t have too much to find to go close. Whether there are better handicapped horses remains to be seen but he has been running well of late and I don’t see him being too far away at the business end of the race. I have a sneaking suspicion that low numbers might be the place to be although recent years suggest that there is not a lot between either side. Drawn in stall 6 is David Barron’s Art Obsession who hasn’t had loads of racing but was second off a long lay-off at Ayr back in May. We can put a line through his run at Thirsk a couple of weeks ago as the saddle slipped and having sneaked in at the bottom of the weights, he could go well. However, I am yet to lose faith in THE HOODED CLAW who I fancied to go well in the Stewards Cup consolation last time but he was undone by the draw on the day. The jockey wasn’t overly harsh on him once he realised his chance was gone and I think he can show up well here. He is drawn in stall 1 which could well be the place to be and Simon Crisford has booked Freddie Tylicki to ride, who I think is one of the more under-rated jockeys in the weighing room. The race is wide open so it is difficult to be mega-confident but he looks to have plenty going in his favour and I would be disappointed were he not to make the frame. 3.30 Ripon – William Hill Great St Wilfrid (Handicap) The main event at Ripon on Saturday afternoon is the Great St Wilfrid handicap and there are several runners here who also took in either the Stewards Cup or the consolation race last time. One such horse is Shore Step who you will know I fancied to run well at Goodwood and to a degree he did, finishing fourth. He tried to make just about all that day and probably went half a stride too quick which is easy to do there and he just couldn’t last home ahead of closing rivals. He lost nothing in defeat and backed up an excellent effort at York where he finished second despite the saddle slipping in a competitive race. He is drawn towards the high side in 14 and could be a pace angle over there and having been raised just 2lb on the back of his latest effort, he should be thereabouts once again. Kevin Ryan’s Al Khan finished just behind him at York in third on his first run for the Kevin Ryan stable and looks well-placed to go well again here. He won twice at the beginning of this season over seven furlongs before struggling in competitive races over that trip at York. The 5lb claim of Gary Halpin should take a bit of weight off his back and having seemingly missed other suitable races in favour of this one, he could go well at around 16/1. The potential blot on the handicap is Richard Fahey’s Don’t Touch who is three from three in his career to date. His latest run at Wolverhampton saw him take on some useful types and he did it well, quickening smartly in the closing stages to get up close home. He won with half a length to spare that day which meant he wasn’t overly punished by the handicapper and he has managed to get in here at the bottom of the weights. He could well be a good deal better than his current mark and the bookmakers have not taken any chances installing him as favourite. He looks the one with the most progression in him but this is a very different test to what he has encountered so far. He could be a bit good but I wouldn’t be too comfortable taking 8/1 about him. Instead, I think ECCLESTON is overpriced at 20/1 having won off a 1lb lower mark just a few months ago. Despite form figures of 7055 on his last four starts, he has never been beaten further than five lengths on those occasions. He was fitted with the visor over course and distance last time and made good headway from the back to be beaten just over a length at the line. He is drawn low in stall 2 and the yard from which he hails has won three of the last four renewals of this race. I fancy he could be the subject of a particularly popular tipster on Saturday so I would take a price early as I find it hard to see him starting at anything like 12/1. 3.45 Newbury – Betfred Hungerford Stakes (Group 2) With the ground at Newbury likely to be on the soft side of good by the time this race takes place, it might be worth looking for horses with form on that kind of surface in the past. One such performer is Andrew Balding’s HERE COMES WHEN who two successes at Group 2 level have both come with cut in the ground. He has also been highly-tried so far this term, chasing home Custom Cut at Sandown in April before tackling Group 1 company on his last three starts. He might have finished closer than three and three-quarter lengths at Goodwood last time with a clear run although he was in deep with the likes of Solow there. This sort of test looks more suitable and with the ground seemingly beginning to come in his favour, he looks to have a big chance. Last year’s winner Breton Rock also deserves a place on the shortlist despite being disappointing at Haydock the last time we saw him. The ground was probably just quick enough for him that day and with rain forecast, this sort of test should be more to his liking. In truth he probably has to find something on last year as this looks a stronger renewal but he is well-suited to seven furlongs on ground with cut in it and he could offer some each-way value at around 12/1. John Gosden saddles an intriguing runner in the shape of Richard Pankhurst who we haven’t seen since he landed the Chesham at Royal Ascot last season. That was just his second start and he won with a bit in hand that day, scooting clear to win by three and three-quarter lengths at the line. He was well-fancied for the 2000 Guineas over the winter before being ruled out earlier in the year and could be absolutely anything. There have been reports of him working well on the Newmarket gallops and if he is anything like we saw him last time, he must have a chance in this company. You have to take a chance on his fitness after such a lay-off but 12/1 could look very big were he back to his best. 4.25 Doncaster – Betfred “Be Part Of The Action” Handicap I have included this race from Doncaster as I am quite sweet on the chances of Michael Dods’ LORD OF THE ROCK who although taking four attempts to get off the mark, looks to have plenty of ability. He won his maiden by eight lengths at Newcastle the last time we saw him and prior to that he had run Hugo Palmer’s Listed placed filly Bella Nostalgia close at Thirsk. He races here off a mark of 90 which looks like it has some legs in it given his lightly-raced profile and he doesn’t carry too much weight here. A three-year-old has won two of the last three renewals of this race and they look to have another strong contender again this year. His trainer thinks plenty of this colt and I think he can continue his development by getting off the mark in handicaps at the first time of asking. In terms of dangers in the race, the consistent Farlow deserves a mention having run Mr Win close at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. He runs here off a 1lb higher mark and has the assistance of the in-form Sammy Jo Bell in the saddle, who also takes off a useful 3lb. He has run well here in the past and given his run last time, he looks a likely danger. Of the rest of three-year-olds Secret Brief could be interesting if he can get back to the form he showed in the early part of the year. The handicapper has cut him some slack in recent weeks although he was dropped in last time at Newmarket and didn’t really seem to enjoy it. I would not be surprised to see him return to front running duties here and with his mark continuing to fall, he could show up well.

just rated top 25 runners presently .....not sure of final decs but lookin for the value oasis fantasy 99.17 nearly caught 98.89 seamour 98.89 notarised 98.81 seamour is currently fav but oasis fantasy is currently the highest rated horse and has been very well backed last few days ......only one or two firms showin 10s ....so im taking it before its gone .....of the others ....ill prob be looking for a nice price on nearly caught .....he has close ties with seamour and will appreciate the drop in trip .....at around 14/1 he would be a nice bet ......need to wait for last decs though oasis fantasy 5 pts win 10/1 lads nearly caught ....pending
