  1. Re: Tennis - Australian Open Bet 5: Grosjean to beat Ilhan @ 8/11 Will go small on this with it being a 5 set match and worries about Grosjean's ability to play a long match. But signs of improvements from him in the last week beating Florian Mayer before losing to Melzer in third set tie-break. He's been injury plagued but a fit Grosjean is a superior player than Ilhan. Ilhan lost to Kindlmann in qualifiers but got in as a lucky loser. Pretty average player I think, not alot of power and isn't a great mover. Hope Grosjean is fit as I think he wins this one.

  2. Re: Tennis - Australian Open Others I'm still thinking about for the opening 2 days are: Almagro over Malisse @ 5/6...Almagro was terrible against Gicquel last week...that's my worry here. And Malissehas won some qualifiers. Surely Almagro win though?? Safarova vs Venus.....feel there has to be something worth taking here in Safarova's favour. Maybe overs in games or handicap bet. Safarova is dangerous, bagelled Clijsters a couple of weeks back before losing. What shape is Venus in right now. Lepchenko to beat Brianti....another lefty with an improving game. Started season pretty good....chances to win here. Think more about these later.

  3. Re: Tennis - Australian Open Bet 2: Lu x Pennetta @ 7/10 Sorenson first Irishman to qualify for a GS in a long time, but Lu is class above the players he beat in qualifiers. Pretty decent HC player, much more experienced at this level and can't see any trouble here. Pennetta plays Chakvetadze in round one. No problems for Flavia here in my view. Anna is terrible right now, lost to Baltacha and Krumm in recent weeks. Her career is gonig the wrong way at this point after looking like a quality player in years gone. Flavia has been one of the best in the WTA the last 6 months....reached final in Auckland losing to Wickmayer already this year. Lost to Rezai badly in Sydney but less motivation in that match and she can struggle against hard hitters anyway. Anna won't cause those problems Bet 3: Pennetta 2-0 x Gonzalez 3-0 @ 5/4 As I said above, can't see problems for Flavia here. Gonzalez plays Rochus, he should win comfortably. Leads h2h 2-0 and really Rochus is good match-up for him. Gonzalez has the power to blow Rochus away here. Has played a few warm up matches in the exhibition this week beating haas and Ljubicic. Bet 4: Gulbis to beat Monaco @ 2/3 1-1 h2h, with Gulbis winning his on HC. Think the only way he loses this is if he doesn't focus for the entire match. He has more weapons than Monaco on this surface, bigger serve and powerful forehand. He has the game to be up around top 30 in my view but his attitude has always been in question. He took a set off Federer in Doha, so hopefully he applies himself here. Monaco is a solid player, not his best surface but he's consistent from the back of the court....still think Gulbis takes this one though.

  4. Re: Tennis - Australian Open So many matches...still weighing up my main bets for day one but will take an accumulator to try and set the ball rolling. Not a fan of doing them but will take this one................... Accumulator @ 19/20 Roddick to beat De Bakker......see no chance for De Bakker here. Expect a 3 set victory and a deep run from Roddick over next two weeks. Already won Brisbane this year. Benneteau to beat Guez....Julien should beat fellow countryman here. Strong player, consistent game. Good form at sydney reaching the semis Soderling to beat Granollers....Granollers is average, no real weapons to hurt Robin. Bit worried about Soderling, had couple of knocks in recent weeks but worst case, he retires I think. Gonzalez to beat Rochus...no problems for Gonzo here. Should blow Rochus off the court. Querrey to beat Schuettler....Schuettler is terrible right now. Doesn't have the legs anymore. Querrey's serve should give him a clear advantage here. GL!

  5. Tennis: Australian Open 2010 18-31 January Official Site: http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/index.html Draw: http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/draws/ms/index.html Federer will likely have to face one of Verdasco and Davydenko to win his quarter. Novak, Tsonga and Soderling in the next quarter. Murray will probably have to beat Nadal and Del Potro to reach the final. Tough draw. Dementieva wont be happy, potential second round clash with Henin. In the same half are Clijsters, Pennetta, Kuznetsova, Sharapova, Safina. Only positive for them is that the Wiliams are in the other half. Odds should be out soon, final round of qualifiers tonight.

  6. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January Taking one at small stakes for the Aussie Open qualifiers, think it's on tomorrow but expect odds to drop: Witten to beat Niland @ 4/6 Remember Witten from the US Open last year, had a great run there beating Andreev, Maximo Gonzalez(who I had backed in that match....:lol) and taking a set off Djokovic. Can't say I've seen much of him since but looks like many early losses in challenger tournaments. However comfortable in first round of qualifiers. Niland is a player I've only seen a few times and he's pretty average. Pushed Darcis in the Doha qualifiers but not alot to mention in his career. Witten is stronger, and has better game for hard-court in my view. Should do better in the heat aswell. Only worry is Wittens fitness, always looks sluggish....but will take this anyway.

  7. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January Robredo to beat Isner @ 8/13 (Paddy Power) Think Robredo is playing pretty well right now. Beat Isner in the Exhibition last week before going onto win it against Murray. Can't say I like Isner much to be honest. Very limited player and has came through two tough matches against Garcia-Lopez and Monaco. But Robredo is another step up in class. Isner hasn't been serving so great and Robredo should be able to move him around the court and play to his weaknesses. Gonzalez x Gasquet Double @ Evens (William Hill) Wouldn't usually place money on an exhibition match but think Gonzalez will beat Haas. Tommy has been struggling for a number of months now with form and illness aswell. Both lost matches here already but think this is a good match-up for Gonzalez..leads H2H 5-1. Also can't see any problems for Gasquet in Sydney versus Starace. Gasquet is looking pretty impressive and comfortably beat Becker. Don't think Starace can cause as much problems as Becker, typical clay courter and has benefitted from some nice draws beating Gil twice in the last two events and a retirement from Gimeno-Traver. Gasquet is a step up in class, looks motivated to do well here and should win. GL!

  8. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January Many good matches tonight, with good value. I'd usually go with Almagro over Gicquel but don't know what shape he is in right now. Bellucci aswell looks good but Kohli is good in Auckland, intersting match-up to watch I think. Good BH versus lefty....should be good one. Kohli is woeful right now I guess. Isner versus Monaco is one I can't pick between....don't like Isner really, very limited but if he serves well theres a chance. One which I would have taken is Demetieva over Safina but bookies with poor odds on this one. GL everyone!

  9. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January Suarez-Navarro to beat Molik @ 8/11 Don't rate Molik so highly, very patchy player. She struggled past a poor Makarova last week before Clijsters bagelled her. Beat Mirza in round one but a terrible match from both. Suarez-Navarro is good player on hard-court, usually good this time of year. Wiped the floor with Shvedova in the last round too. If she stays consistent in this match, I think she wins. 'Cuevas x Benneteau both to win a set' Double @ Evens Cuevas vs Mayer should be good chance for Pablo to win. Conditions suit Cuevas and he beat Llodra fairly comfortable. Grinder with strong ground-strokes. Mayer was average versus Andreev but somehow came though. Would typically back him in match like this but don't think he's playing so well. I would lump cash on the Overs for this one but my bookie doesn't do it unfortunately. Think Stan is in for a tough fight in this one. Have to wonder how fresh he is after battles in Chennai, we seen how Sela was yesterday where Benneateau easily won. I like Stan but his game is inconsistent, lovely BH but serve and FH can let him down. Benneteau is trong and fairly consistent in rallies. Think he keeps this tight.

  10. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January Kudryavtseva to beat Medina-Garrigues @ 10/11 Think Kudryavtseva has a chance here. M-G is a good player, fairly consistent and lots of pushing play...but not exactly in great form herself over recent months. Alla has started the year pretty well, aggressive play. Lost a tight match to Bacsinszky in Brisbane but cruised through qualifiers here, beating Makarova 6-0 6-0 in last round. H2H is 3-0 in AMG' s favour and she is better ranked player but take a chance with girl who is playing well right now...if she keeps errors to a minimum there are chances here as she is serving well and hitting her shots. GL! Liking Gicquel aswell and maybe Becker over Chela but put off the latter by Chela's displays in qualifiers.

  11. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January Benneteau to beat Sela @ 8/13 Would have liked a slightly higher price here but will take it nonetheless. Benneteau finished the year in decent fashion, beating Federer in Paris before losing to Monfils. Strong serve, good in rallies. Sela had a good week in Chennai and really had chances to reach the final versus Wawrinka. Maybe not in the best shape coming into this one. Benneteau leads H2H 2-0 with one on hard-court.

  12. Re: Tennis: 10th - 16th January

Cuevas to beat Llodra @ 8/11 Have to side with Cuevas here. Llodra was bagelled by Levy last week and looked out of sorts. Have to question his desire these days, only seems up for home tournaments. Cuevas is typically clay-courter but can play on hard aswell. Pretty good in rallies. Unless Llodra dramatically improves this could be tough for him, his serve and volley not as effective if he serves as poorly as his last match.
    WIN

  14. Re: Tennis: 3rd - 10th January Wow Henin/Clijsters was a classic.......:nana.....final set tie break. Absolutely delighted these two are back playing now....they'll be in contention for every slam I think. Don't think I'll back anything today. In profit for the week so might just watch Rafa/Davydenko. If Rafa was a better price I'd probably take him but Davy is in robot mode at the minute. Rafa won't be as bad as Federer was, so he'll need different tactics for Nadal. Good Luck everyone and back next week for hopefully more winners.
