  1. Re: Poker Player Team Challenge

At the end of the day, all I'm saying is we have a team of guys and girls who run PL, and between us have made the decisions that make this place what it is today.
Paul. Whatever happened to PL's original proprieter. OllieO or somesuch. He still about? Or did he sell / give the site over to you?
  2. Re: Had a bad beat ? Come and have a moan here Been having connection problems for a while now so have been slumming around the $1 and $2 STT's as dropping my connection in these isnt going to send me into a financial tailspin. 8 bubble finishes in a row. Either all in a 2/1 or more favourte or on a stone cold bluff that gets called by a worse hand that sucks out. Hence the need for 20-30 buy ins :)

  3. Re: The Sun Poker Offer no $10 here yet (the 4000 promotional points requirement for the extra is showing). Opened account on Thursday or Friday... so almost a week! Didnt make a deposit. Didnt think I needed to? This doesnt supprise me. The Sun is run by the same bods as Racing Post Poker and they are as crooked as they come. Not sure I WANT the $10 now cos if I roll it up Id have to give them my bank details to withdraw. Not something I think im prepared to do...

  4. Re: pop quiz (part VI) - call or fold? Pot = 2300 Call = 800 Stack if call and lose 2700 vs his 3100 Practically 3/1 in the pot. I think you have to take him on here knowing your behind but knowing the price is good and that your ITM if you make it, and still in contention if you dont. If you had 72o its an instant no brainer call. The best godamn hand in poker. I would add that if you fold and let him get away with one he is likely to do it again next round. Your likely to have rags again, but now he has you covered in chips and a call becomes even harder

  5. Re: Sporting Odds Champions League - July May I intercede from a neutral perspective? Tough! :) 6ooner's post was pretty clearly steamy-rant but it doesn't look like it was directly aimed at you DAC, so I think you've probably overeacted by taking it personally. Have a brew mate. Will make you feel better :beer

  6. Re: PL Heads Up Tourny

(I nearly said sit OUT and watch me blow up' date=' but I think I could probably beat them if they did that - just!!)[/quote'] Actually I think my proudest moment came when I won a heads up confrontation by sitting out. That was truely awesome.
  7. Re: A tight spot with Anna Kournikova

" had him pegged as a decent player... ...Checking the flop essentially gives it up.
If you had been dealt QQ and had that flop - how would you act. Im guessing you might just check, and a check on the flop against experienced opposition is often more worrying then a pot sized bet. Do you give the guy enough credit to read "the nuts" if you check after all that preflop action? Edit: Looks like he had AJ or 88 after all based on his fold :)
  8. Re: Sporting Odds Champions League - July If the software screws up with 7 players left then refunding the buy in is absoloutly unacceptable. The players who were already out probably wouldnt get their buy in back, so SportingOdds is effectively keeping everyones money as a reward for screwing up. I hardly think so. The fairest soloution is to divide the prize pool between the remaining seven players, and award League points according to chip stack position at the time of fubar as a good will gesture.

  9. Re: Pl Heads Up Tourny

By the way, why were there so many poker players checking out my thread in Systems and Strategy this afternoon? To see how my horseracing tips were doing? :unsure
Now I know where I recognise the username. Knew it was familiar. Were you not around when this was still a small forum on the back of Ollie's "Football-Punter" website - circa 2001-2? That was before Paul became the big man on campus. I mighta even been here before him (haw!) - but Im not quite sure. I know he had a tips service running back then It really is ammazing how much this place has grown over the years. Good work paul. Wow tangent :)
  10. Re: A tight spot with Anna Kournikova

not frightening Dave' date=' profitable, I seem to be a in very small minority on here, but I like playing against poor players, because you beat them a lot. The occasional fluky bad beat, is nothing to be worried about for the long term player[/quote'] Bad choice of words perhaps. I agree with you however on this, as per another thread here recently. What I meant was that in low buy in large field tournies its much harder to get acurate information. Case in point - my 77 was recently set all in in the opening hand of a $1 MTT. I kinda knew I was against a 3 outer - and sure enough my reraiser had K7o. The river was of course the magical K.
  11. Re: A tight spot with Anna Kournikova

At best it's a coinflip' date=' I don't push unless I'm fairly certain I'm ahead (or I'm doing a blind steal latter in the game with 72o, but that's different)[/quote'] To be fair if youe moving in with 7-2o its not really stealing. As well know its the best godamn hand in poker. Trouble is with $1 tournies is there are such a broad spectrum of players ranging from complete novices right up to sharks using them as virtual satelites to that nights $50 game. I see so many re-reraises on all in with 22 and AT in these games its frightening.
  12. Re: A tight spot with Anna Kournikova

Anyway... I decided I had no fold equity in this spot. So I called. Flop Q32 rainbow. Since I'm first to act... Hero??
Your boned By my best guess the money is thus Pot: 3500 You: 2405 Him: 5025 If you make your biggest possible bet which is all in I think he is compelled to call. Hes getting nearly 5/2 at a risk to half his stack. Unless he was on the make before the flop I dont see what hand he could be making that kind of a reraise with that wouldnt like that flop. He might reraise with AJ if he's a tool I dont know. Doesnt seem likely. Thats about the best you could hope for. AQ QQ KK and AA will love it. Maybe he has Jacks and if you push he might fear the queen, and figuring to be 8-10% he might let it go. Trouble is cos he has has you comfortably covered he may even call with jacks because your bluff probability in this spot is so high. I might be inclinded to check. Let him dictate the action. Maybe he lets you peel of a card for free. Not to that you even know what you want to hit. Ace against AQ? King against AA? Its a doosey, and its exactly why you should shove it all in preflop or fold it. IF youve walked into AA or KK hard luck, and if hes out flopped you with his AQ well thats poker. You got your money in when you was infront and thats the best you can ever do.
  13. Re: A tight spot with Anna Kournikova

Just a mute point.... Anna Kournikova is KQo not AK ("Bigus Slickus") even with the acroynym connotations ... KQo is Anna Kournikova from the "looks real pretty but plays like sh*t !!!"
Nah mate. Anna Kournikova Looks pretty but doesn't win much
  14. Re: So what's the score with Goalpoker Paul?

or if that fails punching phil hellmouth
If you find yourself at a table with Phil, id be inclined to make out youve never heard of him. Call him a fish, and then ask if hes an internet qualifier. Garaunteed to send him into a tilt tail spin and probably get you a ton of TV time :) Also check out http://www.billfillmaff.com/[url=http://bluffmagazine.com/] for some tips on baiting phil :)
  15. Re: So what's the score with Goalpoker Paul?

PR: "That's strange because AP have offered Fenners & Burnley Joe a $10k seat and you're sitting here telling me different!" :lol
Well three cheers for Absoloute Poker. I'll be sure to give them a look. Needless to say ill be warning everyone about GoalPoker. Funny how publicity works innit. Might I suggest writing to http://bluffmagazine.com/ with this story. I cant go into details but I happen to know its readership figures here in the UK are quite healthy. If its printed it should see the end of goalpoker, and hopefully bags of business for the generous AbsoloutePoker
  16. Re: My second flopped royal in 2 weeks!! Fair enough. Like you say if its not likely to be back raised why not have a look for cheap - even if your position is poor. Obviously youd have to fold to a raise which would be a waste of chips but if thats not the case why not :)

  17. Re: More criticism please With 2 players calling a sizable raise (relative to stack sizes) id have to be inclined to think AQ was losing to AK in one spot and a pair in the other. I might fold here, or move in. I dont like calling in these spots. Too much money in the pot and an all in on the flop looks like a bluff anyway so your fate is sealed as soon as you call. You have to stick it in on the flop anyway.... As it happens you gave the guy an opportunity to get away from his horribly boned AJ. He didnt take it, and the prize for his chimpery was the Jack at the turn. I do wonder though how much of a favourite AQ is with 2 of its 6 "outs" missing - just an unlucky hand me thinks

  18. Re: A tight spot with Anna Kournikova Well you cant really call here. If you miss the flop with nearly half your stack invested....ouch. You have enough infront of you that you COULD let it go. Personally Id set the guy all in and laugh when he calls with ATs or AJs.
