  1. Re: 6 Nations Rugby Italy v Wales All the changes for the Welsh means we are looking at a team of triallists! I think Gatland is looking at these players to see if they are of the required standard and also with an eye on next weekends game against the Irish and resting his main men. Taking these things into account Wales must beat the -16 handicap or it will be viewed as a loss, bearing in mind the trouble Nick Mallet is currently suffering (if the press is anything to believe!) Only two bets for me: Wales points difference 16-20 6/1 P.Power & Alternative points difference 21-30 3/1 P.Power.

  2. Re: 6 Nations Rugby

Ireland v England Ireland beat France, France beat Wales, Wales beat England. It looks straightfoward for Ireland at Croke Park. If England can clamp down on the penalty count (and yellows), this could be close. Ireland to hold on, by 2. 11 points England + 9 @ 10/11
:clap Nice one Pie-chucker, unfortunately I was working right up until kick off and couldn't post any thoughts but I thought this handicap was too generous as well. One thing I will say is watch Ireland take care of Scotland & easily in the next game. Do not be tricked by Scotland's performance against the Italians! Scotland have a great ability to look good against poor teams but when they come up against other teams in the top 10 their weakness's are exposed again. I am still not convinced about Hadden's approach to this Scotland team, an example of this was when Patterson kicked a penalty when Scotland had already won the game. Some people will argue that this is an on the field decision but ultimately what is the coach's philosophy that makes a player go for this with the game already won!
  3. Re: 6 Nations Rugby Strength in depth may be the issue for Gatland & Wales! How can you expect Henson to come on and make a difference when he has played so little Rugby. I also felt Powell was shown up again, apart from the joint hit on Chabal he wasn't really at the races tonight! Italy in Rome won't be easy, they should win but they will need a big performance to lift themselves and rebuild their confidence.

  4. Re: 6 Nations Rugby I am a late home from work so no time for write ups. France too good to lose by much, so the Welsh can sing and chant as much as they like about their chances! However saying that the Welsh should win but not by much certainly under 10 points. The one thing that will kill the French is no recognised goal kicker! You cannot win matches without one, England have proved this with no Jonny it's no six nations or fortress Twickenham! But Welsh beware I would certainly cover any bet with a French points win of around 6-10, because with no goal kicker they may win this by a try. I haven't looked but Paddy Power sometimes offers an alternative winning margin of 1-10 and tonight this looks attractive for the French! The French are always to be feared when they are regarded as under dogs, ask any All Blacks fan!

  5. Re: World championships Nordic combined Ah Betfair & how to use it! :sad I feel like I'm on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire! Basically with Betfair you can play at being a Punter or Bookmaker. The odds in blue are the Punters odds & the odds in red are the Bookmakers odds or the Lay odds. You have the opportunity to change these odds but you have to find someone else willing to accept your odds. For example if you want to back Real Madrid to beat Liverpool you are unlikely to get odds of 6.0, you could ask but you wouldn't get anybody likeky to accept or take your bet! Likewise if you wanted to Lay Liverpool to lose and you only offered say £10 @ 1.50, you probably wouldn't get any backers. The amounts below the odds are how much money there is available at the those odds showing. This is a very basic answer to your question and I am sure there are other people on PL who could give you a far better answer to your question. If you need to know more the Betfair website is very good at answering your question and there are plenty of books that will take you through the whole Betfair philosophy! Best of Luck!!! :ok

  6. Re: 6 Nations Rugby

France playing Baby and outside half and a fatboy in the centre.
If by fatboy you mean Mr Basteraud, I certainly don't fancy being the opposing centre! His nickname is "The Beast" unsurprisingly, believe me having seen him this season at Quins v Stade Francais he is a big lump and he can shift to! Name Mathieu Bastareaud DOB 16/7/88 Club Stade Francais Position Centre Height/Weight 188/110 :eek
  7. Re: 6 Nations Rugby All joking aside Wumpking I do genuinly find your calculations fascinating! Are they a formula that you have devised or is it a widely understood equation used in these instances? I ask this beacause I would expect Wales to be bigger odds than 1.90, seeing as they are the away team and France at the moment are I reckon a better team than England at home.

  8. Re: 6 Nations Rugby The ref was average to say the least, he had very little to do overall & still looked average! England give away the first three penalties, ater each one Borthwick is called over and is given a lecture. How many times was Jones given a lecture after the 10 Welsh penalties? Not wishing to take anything away from the Welsh, they kicked the penalties that were awarded to them and they won fair and square but England exposed a few tactical frailties within the Welsh game. The Ireland v Wales game for me could be a classic and I cannot wait.

  9. Re: Tipster phoned me I am constantly getting letters from Colin Davey after me and a mate foolishly parted with one months worth of tipping advice about 8 years ago! He was no good then and I can't imagine that he has improved, mind you I have to admire his persistance.

  10. Re: 6 Nations Rugby Like Marseille I am beginning to see a bit of value in England at +11, I am also looking towards a low scoring game. As we all seem to be in agreement that England are looking fairly defensive and they will rely on Andy Goode kicking some points. However England will have to overcome their own generosity on the penalty count! Wales winning margin under 12.5 points 2.84 Betfair Interesting market- Andy Goode total points +8.5 1.52 Betfair, only three penalties & even at this price its a fairly good bet but I'll wait and see if they improve. Patterson claimed two penalties for the Scots last week hopefully the English can apply a bit more pressure than the Scots.

  11. Re: 6 Nations Rugby

Anyone else think this is a damage limitation pick? Worsley can tackle all day but a number 7 he isn't. So, anyone think of any reason why the bookies are only going -9 on Wales?
Barton, the only answer to your question I can think of at the moment is that England potentially have the ability to beat Wales. So +9 for England is potentially a huge start especially for a team that if they were to click and get ahead could even win this game. :lol I liken England to a race horse that is falling down the handicap and you hope that it discovers some of its old love for the game! :hope Regarding Worsley it certainly is damage limitation, he isn't really an open side and he is fine running with the ball but his distribution can let him down at times. I think Goode might have a better game for England this time around, he didn't get any kicking practice at Twickenham last week due to the tent covering the pitch so I am willing to give him another chance.
  12. Re: 6 Nations Rugby I agree France have rebuilt their team well and they are looking like the French of old, I am almost thinking of moving across the channel and taking up residence - ALLEZ Les Bleus!!! ;) But seriously Marseille mentions the penalty count against the French in Dublin, I am currently looking into the conspiracy theory that Nigel Owens is actually Irish. The penalty count was Ireland 2, France 10, now come on how many times does that happen in any game of Rugby! I think France will undoubtably hammer the luckless Jocks (sorry Great Grandad!), the Scots just do not have that cutting edge and this is underlined by their inability to score tries!

  13. Re: 6 Nations Rugby

Based on the rating points, in the next round of matches France should beat Scotland by 13 points, Wales should beat England by 8 points whilst Italy should lose to Ireland by 4 points. These equate to odds of:
This makes for interesting reading especially if the h/cap stays at +13 for Italy. Judging by past results for Ireland they have a bit of a liking for playing in Rome! 24-51 in 2007 17-28 in 2005 13-37 in 2003 22-41 in 2001 The average winning margin is 20 pts with the Italians only managing to get under a 13 point loss once in 2005.
  14. Re: 6 Nations Rugby Ireland v France This is the game of the weekend for me, this should be a real dogfight! I think France could really show some improvement in this game, I am really waiting to see the new French front row in action and I think you could see the beginning of something good for the French. Of course the Irish are not without their own stars and I expect to see a good show from Kearney. As Marseille has shown us the French have a great record against the Irish but records are there to be broken! Ireland Exact Winning Margin 3 points 19/1 P.Power (if your heart can take it!) France winning margin 1-5 points 9/2 P.Power France winning margin 6-10 points 6/1 P.Power

  15. Re: 6 Nations Rugby Weather for the match at Twickenham is currently snow/sleet showers in the morning clearing away to leave a sunnier afternoon. They have cleared six inches of snow from the pitch at Twickenham and it is currently under a tent which has hot air blowers keeping it from freezing. The pitch should be in good shape come Saturday, maybe a little wet under foot depending on when they take the covers off! There is a lot of talk about Goode at Fly Half and for me he is currently the best English Fly Half available. I never thought I would say that and I do not think it is a fluke that since he left Leicester they have become slightly blunted in attack. He is currently top points scorer in the Top 14 in France and he will give England a far sturdier look and his kicking skills will go along way to keeping Englang going forward. Italy's power lies with their forwards and they can stand up to any other international pack but their weakness is their strength in depth! They also go into this game without a recognised scrum half and they are putting their faith in Bergamasco, a flanker, to be able to fill the void. I imagine that Danny Care & Harry Ellis are currently rubbing their hands together in anticipation at having a run at Mr Bergamasco. This also probably speaks volumes for the type of game that Italy are going to play, the Italian forwards will certainly see more than their fair share of the ball this Saturday! I feel that England should be able to keep the ball away from Italy and if they dominate possession like they should, then England should be able to spread the ball out wide and tire out the Italian pack. This should then set the game up nicely in the second half for a few English tries. I like the look of the 15 point handicap currently on offer and I believe that the pace England now possess should see off the Italians. (:hope) England winning margin 11-15 6/1 P.Power England winning margin 16-20 13/2 P.Power I have been told that the covers are coming off the pitch Saturday morning and the latest forecast is early wintry showers clearing to bright skies for match, max temp 1c.

  16. Re: Rugby H Cup 16.17.18/01 Wasps v Leinster This is a must win game for Wasps but if the news coming out of Adams Park is anything to go by everybody wants to leave! If this is true or not it is not the sort of rumours that will help you overcome a tough Leinster team at a nuetrual ground. The game is being played at Twickenham and the crowd will be around 25 to 30,000. Probably made up of mostly part time Leinster supporters (London Irish playing away!) so I fancy a Leinster win.

  17. Re: Rugby H Cup 16.17.18/01 Ulster v Quins Ulster are currently the form team out of the two but in saying that I am sure Quins would of beaten Worcester at home last weekend had they played. It would not surprise me to see Ulster win this they look like they are going in the right direction but I still fancy Quins to get a losing bonus point at least. No odds available at this time!
