Re: Best Bet of the Day ~ Wednesday 27th August
Well spotted Billy the odds did seem a bit strange, I did notice on Betfair that 5 minutes before the off the win odds did move out to 14's which would be more reflective of the place odds on offer. I thought the horse came to win the race but faded in the end and lost on merit. I backed the place odds at 4.9 and laid the win at evens during the race so I had a free bet out of it.Re: Best Bet of the Day ~ Wednesday 27th August
Something not right here? McQueen is 5.80 for a place, way out of line with the win market. Could be a NR or worse? -
Re: Sligo Placepot tgc-I'm more than happy to be wrong on this point but I do not believe that Irish Racing has Placepots! I looked on Paddy Power and couldn't find anything regarding this type of bet for Sligo.

Re: Questions to ask ourselves Ginge-You raise a very serious and valid point. We should be there for those that fall into the trap, believing that they can gamble their way to success and constantly coming up short. With regards to the person at the races, if I was you I would approach them and ask if they are all right. You may get a rude reply but alternatively you may get someone who desperately needs help and who may breakdown in front of you. At worst in your own mind you will have done the right thing and whether or not you succeed in helping them your conscience will be clear! Always remember with anything addictive the person needs to realise that they have a problem first before they can deal with their problem. I have a close family member who although clever just cannot get way from their habit and they are the typical Betting Shop punter, we have all seen them, when they win they are top of the world but when they lose it is everybody else's fault except their own! Sport is to be enjoyed and having a few quid on it only enhances the experience, my life would be truly over if I couldn't watch sport, have a bet and a drink so my heart really goes out to the poor soul who you see at the races. Best of luck and I hope what ever course you take It works out for the best! :ok

Re: Yarmouth Sun 24/8/08 5.50 Yarmouth Red Lily-I wasn't sure if this was worth a bet until I saw the 4/1, the new favorite Benhego ran in a Class 5 H/cap two races ago but is carrying 9.11 from 8.4 whereas Red lily has 10.0 from 8.12 to shoulder in a Class 5. Also Benhego didn't show much liking on its only run on Good/Soft albeit it was its first run. Hopefully Red lily's pedigree should see it stay the trip at first time of asking and its last run on Heavy going at Ripon should prove to be a slight blip on its form.

Re: Saved for ATR readers! Well done Bowles you are an inspiration to all us who don't post our thoughts enough (currently hanging head in shame whilst trying to type). It is never easy to praise a QPR fan when you are a Brentford fan but on this occasion I don't seem to have any problem doing it! Well done and keep up the good work :cheers

Re: Scoop 6 Selections - Sat 9th Aug Here's a couple for the melting pot. 2.00 Hay. Joseph Henry-last few runs have been in Class 2 h/caps and best show so far last time out. Wouldn't want the ground to be too soft and interesting jockey booking (a female!) but I'm sure Mr Nicholls knows what he is doing and the 7lbs could be a valuable deduction. 3.00 Redcar Follow The Flag-Has changed stables after running respectively at Windsor & Goodwood wins have come an the All Weather but has improved on Turf last two outings. 3.10 Hay. Drill Seargeant-Although up 3lb in the ratings he is running off a lower weight than last time in the same class of race (8.8 to 8.5) and has also improved upon second to last running when stepped down in trip to 10f. Also should have no problems if there is any further rain.

Re: John McCririck looking a little Coy! I remember watching this live and at the time I thought that a lot of what Barney Curley was saying had some validity, but the way he attacked Luke Harvey was wrong. Although he was probably correct with regards to John McCrirrick, I beleive Barney later apologised on air over this outburst. Note: there is quite a lot missing from this TV clip!

Re: The Whip Debate The whip is a necessary evil when it comes to horses, I have a six year daughter who goes to riding lessons and they allow her to use it in the correct manor! The whip is all part of the steering and control of a horse, I would certainly not like to be on a ton of uncontrollable muscle, especially a scatty two year old horse without a whip. Mind you I am 16 1/2 stone so I'm sure the horse wouldn't want me on its back anyway! As for McCrirrick what he knows about horse riding can be written on the back of a postage stamp and I think Mr Francome can often be heard putting him right on a few horse riding matters. Over the years the people in and around racing have done their best to make it a great spectator sport and on the whole they have succeeded, things will never be perfect but this is just another publicity stunt by people who do not understand horses or racing i.e. BLOODY DO-GOODERS (Hunting is a fine example of what these people can supposedly achieve). These people are generally sad, lonely and bored! The jockeys have a tough enough job as it is, losing our money with bad rides etc., without some do-gooder making it harder for them, how good would Michael Schumaker of been without a steering wheel?

Re: Eurovision Song Contest Just listened and had a couple of quid @ 200/1 on the British entrant. I agree with Terry Wogan Andy Abrahams is our best entrant for quite few years! How about this for a talking point, as good as his song is I do not believe he will win because he is black! As sad as this makes me feel I do not beleive he will get many votes from those countries, as with football, who have racist elements. I was wondering if others agreed with me or am I overeacting.

Re: 6.10 towcester - Radbrook hall Point taken Cavello but when a horse stops itself like Radbrook Hall did it will not win or earn place money for the poor owner who pays for it and I am sure the owner probably had money going on the horse just like the other punters. So it could of been better for the owner if the jockey had dismounted so at least the owner would of got his betting money back (poor consolation I know), if this was a flat race the horse probably wouldn't of entered the stalls and therefore would of been a non runner! The other issue here is would the jockey of got paid if it was a non runner?

I was hoping that someone could give me any important team news regarding FC Nitra and FC Kosice, as I was looking to put them together in a double? Re: Miss Gay Kelleway I always think John Gosden sounds OK when interviewed, he doesn't seem to beat around the bush like some!

Re: Racing Post Website Same for me, I was having problems this morning. I could get the front page up but no log in box would appear. I deleted all my cookies and this seem to help but it was still very slow and I was still having problems accessing individual race details, I kept getting page unavailable or server busy. Doesn't seem to be that bad at the momemnt tough :hope

Re: J-League 29-30/04 Good advice dj, unfortunately I picked it up a bit too late though. :cry However I did back Yokohama & Urawa in a double! :nana I hope there is more to come from this league although the Nagoja - Kawasaki F. (1-2) result looks like a bit of a shocker!

Re: Bulgarian APFG Tue - Wed 29/4 - 30/4 Tulenos - you are right it is probably better to be safe than sorry! I will never shout at anybody on PL for bad advice or any advice given, as we are all on here to help each other (hopefully) and I respect anybody who is prepared to spare the time to give their advice. :ok

Re: Bulgarian APFG Tue - Wed 29/4 - 30/4 It sounds like one of those games we hear a lot about here on PL! :ok

Re: J-League 29-30/04 I only started looking at the J-league towards the end of last season and managed to pick out a few nice winners, does anybody have any decent links for the J-league? (in English please :loon!) I know you have to be careful in this league as bookmakers tend to refer to the teams by different names, for instance the game I like the look of for the Home win is

Lingfield 28/08/08

Re: Lingfield 28/08/08 2.50 TITLE ROLE This could be a potential fly in the ointment at a nice price (e/w). Only wins have come at this distance, last two runs were over further and both times the horse failed to stay. The horse although tried on the turf is related to a multiple polytrack winner (Steeley Dan). The horse hasn't run at Lingfield but Trainer has a good record here and so does the Jockey. Only drawback could be the weight, 12lbs higher than when it last won at Kempton but it did put in a good effort in a better race at Goodwood three runs ago. Took it for granted that this race was on the all weather-what a plonker! Oh well I'll stick to my pick and hope for the best. :wall
