Re: Relevant books BRADDOCK'S complete guide to Horse Race Selection & Betting. It's a few years old now (first published 1983!) and is quite nostalgic for us old farts! But it does give some sound info and the advice still rings true even in todays racing.

Re: Epsom - Sat 6/6/09 1.25 Elliptical- at 12/1 I think this looks a good bet e/w especially if you draw a line of comparison with Marching Time through another horse called Barwell Bridge. Barwell Bridge beat Marching Time by 2 3/4 lengths off level weights last time out and Barwell Bridge had previously beaten a horse called Bushveld by a neck when receiving 1lb. Bushveld had at beaten Elliptical at Wolverhampton off level weights by 3 lengths which by my calculations should put Elliptical off a similar same mark as Marching Time but Elliptical is 2 lbs better off today!

Re: Harness racing - Oslo Grand Prix 2009 I've seen harness racing at Woodbine but could never get my head around it! If only I had read a thread like yours back then, nice one King Theoden & the best of luck to you! :ok

Re: Mad Dash Jockeys Alert
The only reason I can think of is weight, T.P. O'shea rides @ 7.13, Tubby Hills is around 8.6. & Fisadara has been alloted 8.6 so maybe he doesn't fancy getting into a sweat for an outsider?

Re: Off to Haydock on Saturday You may have already left but lots of money reported for Caravelle in the 1.55! 14's into 10/9's

Re: Christian Williams!!!!!!
I believe it was James Hunt who pulled Nicki Lauda out from his burning car during a race way back when. Along with steward I have detracted from the thread - I am sure he will get all the plaudits he deserves for such a gesture! :clapThat's very good of him. I remember in formula one when a someone crashed his teamate would stop racing too and make sure he was alright. Sports doesn't see much of that any more. Anyway well done Christian -
Re: Best race course to visit Sandown is a good track but if you want an evening out afterwards you may struggle as Esher is not cheap and certainly isn't lively. Avoid Kempton full of chav's.

Re: Tuesday free competition! Closes 8pm tonight! Well done to Lucky & especially Ebor!!! :clap

Re: Tuesday free competition! Closes 8pm tonight! Trully a great idea for a competition and what a race to choose as well! 25.5 lengths for me.

Re: Drunkenness at the races What seems strange to me is that last Saturday I was at the Army v Navy rugby match at Twickemham along with 55,000 other people. Now if you want to see a spectacle of drunkeness this takes some beating! But saying that there were no mass brawls just a few isolated incidents of idiots which were all well controlled by stewards and police. The funniest one being the streaker on the empty top tier, who was a lot worse off once his wife got to him after he had been caught by the stewards! At the end of the day if you allow people to bring their own drink you are asking for trouble because they will drink to excess on any old cheap p*ss, but if you make them drink from well (note I didn't say strictly, there is a difference!) managed bars then I think trouble at these events can be avoided. Hospitality organisers do also have themselves to blame sometimes because unfortunatley they aim their marketing for events at stag & hen parties because they perceive these groups as those with the most expendible incomes! But as we are all beginning to experience at the races this type of marketing comes at a price to the loyal racegoers.

Re: Choose your Racing Silks The closest that I could get to the colours of one of my other favorite pastimes-Twickenham Cricket Club! Bottle Green, Silver & Black. Mowgli I think those colours look brilliant as silks!

Re: Jamie Spencer Just wondering, if he was riding in the States would he have been brought before the stewards for not riding his horse out and getting the best result? It seemed to me that once the race was beyond him he just held back the horse to try and save it.

Re: Non Runners!!!!!!! Just to add more fuel to this fire, the reasons for the earlier declared non runners were given as follows: 12:32pm More to cross out 3.10 9 Hideaway (self cert) 3.40 2 Oscar Jack (Unsuitable ground) 4.10 8 Hereditary (sc) 4.40 6 Good Man Again (travel problems) 5.10 12 Red Rock (ug) And then you get a quote fron the Clerk of the Course like this 12:50pm Course update Clerk of the course,Robert Bellamy, said:"The ground is currently good but we have watered in the week and I think it could get a bit more testing after a couple of races when they have opened it up." I know we had a lot of rain but surely it would have to be of biblical proportions to go from Good to Testing! Or was it that it was already softer than good to start with and this could be an excuse for the unsuitable going horses, then you would have to blame the Clerk of the Course? I know his name is mud on PL but a certain Mr McCririck is always sounding off to his credit when this happens and I imagine he has a conspiracy theory or two about it as well!

Re: Logical money maker! I agree with Jonesy but I would add that any system that you use is only as good as the banking system that you use along side it! Plus any system that is advertised on Ebay and any where else is generally freely available elsewhere and has been in use for years, they have probably been discussed on PL at sometime! The people that sell them generally change the name of a well known system, tinker with it a little and tell you that they developed it themselves.

Re: Why bother entering? Trotter is probably right but I also remember a few years back one of the smaller trainers (can't remember who!) saying on ATR, when they had the chat show before racing, that sometimes this was the only way to either get a horse a race or even use it as a form of training!

Re: watch-live-rugby.com scam or what
[its in the thread title./QUOTE] DOH!!! :wall Of course it is! Anyway it seems Ok but really they are not offering anything that great, the games on offer are only the games that are live via any of the TV Sports channels (Sky etc.) and as Ronnie has suggested you could probably pick these up for free with http://www.justin.tv/ or www.myp2p.eu. The feed quality may be better with watch-live-rugby.com but I would also question why would you use an American Football to help advertise Rugby! -
Re: The best handicap race ever (hypothetical) As good as Cigar was the lack Lasix would put pay to his chances I'd reckon!

Re: watch-live-rugby.com scam or what Hi Recs, I work in Rugby and have certainly not heard of anything like this! That does not mean it isn't for real but I will do some digging and find out more. Can you give me the web addresss please.

Re: Grand National Sectionals Top work Billy I think this is one of the best threads I have read on PL!! It does make you wonder how a 100/1 shot won the race, some will say thats the National for you but I am sure it will be a good 50 years before we see it happen again!

Re: Eurovision 2009
You have already hinted at the answer Crouch, who is going to support the Fin's except the other Scandinavians, they may pick up a few votes from some of the old soviet block countries. Unfortunately you could have the greatest song on the Planet but if no one likes you-no chance. Mr Wogan was right it has become a farce, but a watchable one all the same!Turkey and Azerbaijan are ok, but neither jump out at me (though Azerbaijan seems a possibility still). Anyway, the only song I am really interested in so far is Lose Control by Waldo's People (Finland). IMO it's the most catchy tune and given some of the odds for the bigger favourites I cannot work out why its 70s. -
Re: 6 Nations Rugby Italy v Wales Wales strength in depth exposed again, I think Mr Gatland will be slighty concerned that some so called big names did very little against the Italians. I will be surprised if Mr Henson will require his beach wear for South Africa come June, along with a couple of others!

Re: 6 Nations Rugby Scotland v Ireland Ireland for me and as I said previously this should be easier than people expect. Murrayfield will be the only factor that will keep things close and if O'Gara performs as we all know he should (and not like he did against the English!) then Ireland will ease closer to the Grand Slam. A handicap of +7 shouldn't be too much of a hinderence to the Irish I would hope to see them win by 10 to prove their current class. The Scots do have hope & pace in the shape of the Evans brothers but Irelands defence should cope with this threat and Irelands overall game should be too strong for the willing but outmatched Scots. Ireland to win by 6-10 9/2 & 11-15 6/1 Both P.Power.

Re: PuntersLounge Weather Watch I am really hoping Kempton goes ahead on Saturday as it is free to get in (Thank you William Hills)! But currently its not looking too good around the Kempton area, I live about a mile away and the smaller roads are like ice rinks! The latest Met Office weather forecast doesn't predict much more snow but the temps are not getting much above freezing!
