2.55 Newbury It's A Date - a rare flat runner for Alan King, has improved nicely this season and deserves this step up in grade after winning two of last three starts. Up 6 lbs but still improving and could go well from the front. 13/2 Paddypower, EW.

Re: Newbury 14/8/09 15.30 Newbury - Shamandar. Godolphin's runner Sand Vixen is likely to be well supported but my selection here is Shamandar. William Haggas' filly made a big impression on debut at Ripon when winning by nearly 4 lenghts to Farmers Wish back in second who went on to complete a double on her next two runs. Shamandar backed up with that promise with an eyecatching performance behind Monsieur Chevallier in the Super Sprint at Newbury. The ground should be perfect today and with me personally not believing anyone has the pace like this filly in the race I wanted to chance it. The only negative is the hefty rise in the weights if that isn't a problem she should go close.
