Sandown - 13/6/09

Recommended Posts

Nearly went for Broad Cairn in the 2.25 and Adorn in the 3.25 but the drop back in trip for both of them just put me off them a bit: 1.50 Forte dei Marmi 7/4 spo 10 pts This one was an eye catching winner lto if there can be such a thing. After three promising and improved runs in maidens, he found traffic problems galore in a slowly run race which I doubt suited yet he still managed to just get up to win lto at this track which clearly is a bonus round here. The handicapper seems to have judged him not so much on his narrow winning distance but more on his unlucky path by raising him 8 pounds for what ultimately was a very narrow victory. However that still might not stop this progressive sort and the form of that muddling race has actually been boosted so far so that helps as well. Solid chance. Brief Candle 16/1 pp bog 5pts e.w As a bigger price alternative, this filly could run well. She ran quite well at times in her 2 yr old career and clearly was well regarded. Promise on debut at a big price when third, she then had no luck at good afterwards and nearly fell at the start in a race worth looking over. However the run that interests me most was her ultimately narrow maiden win at sand. She only just got up but was value for much more than the winning margin as she encountered traffic problems galore before getting up. The form of that was good as well, second frustrating but had clear ability last year, the third second afterwards in a really hot maiden of the top 3 that day, fourth a subsequent winner and the fifth now a pattern performer. On that she deserved a go in a group 1 before finding it too much on the day and proving a bit disappointing. However on her first run this year she ran quiet encouragingly considering she looked like she needed it that day. She came home well into fifth despite the lack of pace that day not being ideal. That race has already got a form boost with the fourth winning easily afterwards. She should like the step up in trip and could run well now she should be much fitter for the run lto. 4.35 Classically 13/2 bet3 bog 5 pts e.w I think this one has a fair chance if not for its last effort which may have been ground related. It was possibly too quick for this one that day as he ran no kind of race but before that he had some really useful maiden form in good quality maiden races. On debut he was well beaten by the impressive now pattern performer your old pal but he ‘won’ the race for second ahead of good types like clowance house, kings destiny, nom dom and simon gray. Fto this season when reportedly still needing the run a bit he put up another good effort to just be third when only a length of a win. The winner went onto win a group 3 derby trial since and whilst the second wasnt disgraced in a listed contest and I think there is a race in him as I mentioned the other day. The fourth has also won. That was good ground so he can go on it just doesn’t seemingly want it lightening quick and this should be fine for a bold run if anywhere near earlier efforts.

Re: Sandown - 13/6/09 Sandown is such a difficult track to assess, but here goes again! 1.50 1st race looks impossible to me with 4 or 5 chances !! 2.20 another difficult handicap although a big price for Portuguese Caddy from Winkworths stable. This popped up to win 1st & 2nd time last season as a 2yo & 28/1 with sporting bet is double what some of the other bookies are offering! 3.25 a 5f sprint where looking back a lower draw seems to have been favoured. ADORN from Noseda's stable should be given another chance after having to race on unsuitable ground last time out & not given a hard time once passed & ended up 5th. Triple aspect looks a very decent horse & won here on debut over 5f. Unbeatne last season & a good effort 1st time up at Newbury could be enough to win this. Forecast for me with Adorn / Triple Aspect reversed.
