Newmarket (eve) - 14/5/09

Recommended Posts

8.30 Newmarket Ziggy Lee has been tried over a range of trips in his five career runs to date, and his two best efforts have both come over five furlongs. He raced over the minimum trip last time out at Wolverhampton on his handicap debut and won well, asserting at the finish, and his 9 lb rise in the weights looks warranted. The form of that race has worked out well with La Capriosa, Speak The Truth and Fyelehk all winning next time out and I think he is the one to beat over five frulongs again with the prospect of further improvement to come now handicapping.

Re: Newmarket (eve) - 14/5/09 6.15 Chantilly Pearl 12/1 bet3 bog 5 pts e.wThis one won on her only start at big odds and with her trainer finding really good form lately and with a developing reputation with fillies, she could go well. The actual maiden she won over 6f on the a.w was ordinary but she ran on really well to do so and showed good pace to do so considering she is bred to be much better over further. Given that I think the mile today she has could be an advantage and a mark of 72 is fair I guess for her win on her only start. 6.50 Ottoman Empire 2/1 pp bog 10 pts Loads of unraced types in her from some powerful yards although only FOG has a notable later entry. However this one was one with a notable entry for some time, ire derby entry so was held in some regard and on course evidence so far that is understandable. Ran encouragingly at the track on debut before stepping up on that with a really good run at pont. Found the dante entry native ruler too good that day with the pair well over 10 lengths clear. Clealry he has the ability to win a maiden at some time and whilst this one could be a fairly useful one, it could still be this one, probably will be pulled out if gets really firm but rain may have a say in that regard. 8.00 On Our Way 9/4 bet3 bog 10 pts Again could be withdrawn but for goes on quick ground ok and has some of the best form in this race. Needs it too with a penalty but this horse who was in the guineas before being withdrawn on the day, has a lot of natural ability. The problem has been at times that it has been too free as shown lto over further but this mile is as far as he wants to go, earlier I actually thought he may need even less but his win at hq showed a mile was fine two starts back. Before that his group 2 form was a good effort especially as he didn’t seem to see that out fully that day in a race at a real gallop. Has the class to go close here.
