corinthians.gifCorinthians

Location: Sao Paulo Manager: Mano Menezes Stadium: Parque São Jorge (18,300) or Pacaembu (37,200) Nickname: Timão City Rivals: Sao Paulo, Palmeiras, Santos Home Form 2008: 16 Wins, 2 Draws, 1 Loss Road Form 2008: 9 Wins, 8 Draws, 2 Losses League Position 2008: Promoted from Serie B, Champions

Ronaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldo! He's back and on fire since his dreadful spell with AC Milan and his impact has been immense. With his presence he has helped Corinthians to lift the Paulista trophy and a Copa do Brasil final. Ronaldo will be teaming up with Douglas and Dentinho, leading a very attractive style of attack that has seen plenty of creative goals in the regionals and cups. The Corinthians Ultras(fiel) one of the biggest, violent and most fanatic group of fans in the world will play a major part in the teams potential success. Corinthians fans are really hard to please but surprisingly enough Manager Mano Menezes has been with the club for 3 years, he even brought them down to Serie B, that easily could be considered a record for this organization. Though the main focal point of the club will be on Ronaldo, expect a lot of new talents to rise to the occasion as well considering Corinthians have a great youth academy. Expect every game they play at home to be packed as the team aims for Copa do Brasil glory and the Serie A title. Just a reminder, when Corinthians travel there will be support from fans from cities where there are no clubs or their team is not in the Serie A, Ronaldo's presence and current form has the entire country talking!

Key Players: Ronaldo, Douglas, Dentinho, Felipe, Elias,

Predicted finish: 1st ( I know what you're thinking but that’s the way it works sometimes in Brazil $$$, from relegation to the top). coritiba.gifCoritiba

Location: Curitiba Manager: Rene Simoes Stadium: Couto Pereira (37,200) Nickname: Coxa City Rivals: Atletico Paranaense Home Form 2008: 10 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses Road Form 2008: 4 Wins, 5 Draws, 10 Losses League Position 2008: 10th

Coritiba fans are not pleased that they managed to win the derby in the regionals vs Atletico Paranense but failed to collect any silverware in the process. To make matters worse, they lost a key figure in young talisman Keirrison to Palmeiras in January. However, losing on player does not mean Coritiba will fail to impress. When the big clubs arrive at the Couto Pereira, expect the Coxa supporters to fill the stadium. Though they are deemed as a mid-table club they definitely aren’t a walk over. Playing at the Parana region will be very tricky for many visiting teams who are not use to the amount of rain the area receives yearly. One key figure to watch out at this club will be Marcelinho Paraiba, having played his best years at Hertha Berlin, it was there he was noted as one of the most important players in the clubs history. Now that his career is coming to a close, he is trying to create one last push for some glory. Coritiba isn’t going to make too much noise this season but they sure as hell won’t be giving any points away to the bigger clubs, with a bit of luck and better road form, they certainly could end up further up in the table but I just don’t see it happening at this stage in time.

Key Players: Marcelinho Paraiba, Carlinhos Paraiba, Leandro Donizete. Predicted Finish: 11th

cruzeiro.gif Cruzeiro

Location: Belo Horizonte Manager: Adilson Batista Stadium: Mineirao Pampulha (75,000) Nickname: Raposa City Rivals: Atletico Mineiro Home Form 2008: 15 Wins, 2 Draws, 2 Losses Road Form 2008: 6 Wins, 2 Draws, 11 Losses League Position 2008: 3rd

After Sao Paulo I could easily say that Cruzeiro have the best organization and one of the best youth academy school in Brazil, nearly every season you can expect Cruzeiro to win a trophy or be contending for one, that being said they already got the Mineiro championship and they're trying to book a flight to Tokyo via the Copa Libertadores. Cruzeiro do have the depth in their squad, however, playing both the Copa Libertadores, the Copa do Brasil and the Brasil Serie A could very well mean the team can get extremely depleted before the league play even starts. that means they got depth in their squad. The squad is filled with plenty of talent but that could change if a player such as Ramirez is out injured. Cruzeiro can go the distance but it must be aware that sooner or later they must sacrifice a competition in order to gain glory in the other.

Key Players: Ramirez, Kleber, Thiago Eleno,Juan Pablo Sorin, Marquinhos Parana.

Predicted Finish: 3rd

flamengo.gifFlamengo

Location: Rio de Janeiro Manager: Cuca Stadium: Maracana (95,000) Nickname: Mengo City Rivals: Fluminense, Botafogo Home Form 2008: 11 Wins, 4 Draws, 4 Losses Road Form 2008: 7 Wins, 6 Draws, 6 Losses League Position 2008: 5th

“Once Flamengo always Flamengo” thats what the anthem says and it's true..by statistics they have the biggest fan base in Brazil, for sure Cuca will say that Flamengo will be heavy contenders especially now that they signed Adriano “Imperador”, Don’t be fooled Even tough Flamengo got 4 or 5 awesome players; they won’t like the idea of their salaries being late for 2 or 3 months and The Emperor making the big bucks, Ronaldo is Ronaldo he already made history and any player would bend over his glories, if Mengo thinks they’ll benefit from Adriano’s arrival as Corinthians with Fenomeno, boy ohh boy they’ll have problems on the other hand if the coach and the Directors manage to keep the The team unified they’ll make a big splash, especially playing as visitors, be assured to actually see more Flamengo fans in some of the opponents Stadiums, giving them a home feeling.

Key Players: Leo Moura, Kleber, Juan, Bruno, Ibson, Erick Flores and Fabio Luciano if he stays.

Predicted Finish: 9th

fluminense.gifFluminense

Location: Rio de Janeiro Manager: Carlos Alberto Parreira Stadium: Maracana (95,000) Nickname: Mense City Rivals: Flamengo, Botafogo Home Form 2008: 7 Wins, 6 Draws, 6 Losses Road Form 2008: 4 Wins, 6 Draws, 9 Losses League Position 2008: 13th

They have all the ingredients to have a better finish than last year, with a good base and some young prospects coming up plus Parreira, Fred and Thiago Silva’s arrival, the tricolor have what it takes to be in top 10th. One thing everyone should pay attention is that they might lose their main sponsor and that would be a disaster because they are the ones paying and helping the club for a long time then you would be asking, isn’t that what sponsor are for? One of Fluminense directors is the CEO if Unimed and he’s about to be replaced for a different coalition. Anyways, politics aside they have the young Wellington which just one his second under-17 south American tournament and apparently Manchester United grabbed him plus a very young and good goalie Fernando Henrique.

Key Players:Fred, Thiago Silva, Wellington, Fernando Henrique.

Predicted Finish:8th

Re: Brasil Serie A 2009-2010 Preview santo-andre.gifSanto Andre

Location: Santo Andre Manager: Sergio Guedes Stadium: Bruno Jose Daniel (18,000) Nickname: Ramalhão

City Rivals: None in Serie A Home Form 2008: 13 Wins, 4 Draws, 2 Losses Road Form 2008: 6 Wins, 7 Draws, 6 Losses League Position 2008: Promoted from Serie B, 2nd

Many are saying that they will go back to Serie B, on the contrary I say they won’t, they did really well in the Paulista and they have a good group that stuck together for the past 2 years plus the experience of Marcelinho Carioca and 5 new additions including Gustavo Nery and Rodrigo Fabri both were former Selecao players. Experience will be key for Santo Andre, they must get intimidated by the big boys in the league. The fall back for being a smaller club is that they do not have a big fan base which means that come match day at the Bruno Jose Daniel, when a the larger fan base arrives for the visitors, you could expect the road team to feel fairly comfortable and even feel that it’s a home game for them.

Predicted Finish: 15th

Key Players: Marcelinho Carioca, Rodrigo Fabri, Gustavo Nery, Nunes.

santos.gifSantos

Location: Santos Manager: Vagner Mancini Stadium: Vila Belmiro (20,000) Nickname: Peixe City Rivals: None but are considered rivals are Sao Paulo, Palmeiras, Corinthians Home Form 2008: 9 Wins, 6 Draws, 4 Losses Road Form 2008: 2 Wins, 6 Draws, 11 Losses League Position 2008: 15th

The boys from Santos, that’s what they are calling them this season and you can go back in 2002 and that’s what they were called then. Diego, Robinho, Elano were the marquee names in early 2000 now they have a new breed, welcome Madson, Neymar, Molina and Cia. The key this year will to be improve drastically from their poor finish. A club such as Santos is expected to keep up with rivals such as Sao Paulo, Palmeiras and Corinthians. There is much work to be done, there isn’t a lot of positive outlook for this club early on but with positive performances via the regional tournaments things may look on the up. The key for Santos is to obtain the points at the Vila Belmiro, a very compact stadium it can be a major threat to visiting teams. Their home form last year was mediocre and they road form was dreadful. If the Peixe don’t figure out how to take advantage of their home turf like the other big clubs do then they could be in for a rough patch, lets hope that the ultras will let the coach Mancini do his work if not it’ll be a disaster and they could come from a potential top spot to the relegation zone.

Predicted Finish: 7th

Key Players: Madson, Kleber, Neymar, Molina.

saopaulo.gifSão Paulo

Location: São Paulo Manager: Muricy Ramalho Stadium: Morumbi (80,000) Nickname: Tricolor Paulista City Rivals: Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos Home Form 2008: 14 Wins, 4 Draws, 1 Loss Road Form 2008: 7 Wins, 8 Draws, 4 Losses League Position 2008: Champions

The 3 time defending Champions Sao Paulo, are built an enormous organization that not only wins tournaments but develops a lot of its own players and gives their fans every season a reason to be so supportive and loyal. However, I don’t think they will take anything home this year. Muricy is a great coach, but isn’t a lot you can do with the current squad, something is missing and that could be easily the fact that the Tricolor young talents could be dying to apply their trades somewhere else or even lack of depth coming from the bench, not saying that they don’t have quality and good subs but who else to fill the gap if Hernanes, Miranda and Borges leave? Plus the long term injury to starting keeper Rogerio Ceni, there aren’t enough players to replace these key figure. I could be making a big mistake by saying this, however, I am basing my analysis on the long term rather than what I see on the current paper.

Predicted Finish: 5th

Key Players: Hernanes, Borges, Miranda, Washington, Jean, Rogerio Ceni.

sport.gifSport Recife

Location: Recife Manager: Nelsinho Baptista Stadium: Ilha do Retiro (35,000) Nickname: Leão

City Rivals: Nautico Home Form 2008: 11 Wins, 6 Draws, 2 Losses Road Form 2008: 3 Wins, 4 Draws, 12 Losses League Position 2008: 11th, Copa do Brasil Champions

Sport is like a Pit-Bull, feisty, determined and rough. They might not posses the skill and grace as some other teams have but they certainly have a die-hard attitude that can disgruntle a lot of “softer” opposition. By winning the Copa do Brasil last season, Sport entered their very first Copa Libertadores and made some noise. They proved that they can compete with opposition outside of Brasil. They managed to cause problems for defending Copa Libertadores Champions LDU Quito, Chilean powerhouse Colo-Colo and rivals Palmeiras. Sport posses a BIG fan base out in Recife, one of the loudest crowds in all of Brasil, plenty of teams do not like traveling all the way up north to play the Lions because they posses a 12th man that really creates plenty of distraction. The object of the 12th man is to make the opponents life absolutely miserable, they will scream out names, chant negative words, anything to distract the opposition. They will even try to find the opponents hotel and try to be extremely noisy preventing the team to sleep so their club can have an advantage. One disadvantage will be their road form, due to the lack of talent the team requires a lot from Paulo Baier who is their key playmaker. Problem is, he is 35 and the long season can take it’s toll on the player. Then we have Ciro, whom I believe is extremely overrated. If Sport can some how manage to gain some positive results on the road, you could see them slowly creep up but once injuries start to kick in, this squad could be in for a long year.

Predicted Finish: 12th

Key Players: Ciro, Paulo Baier, Moacir, Bosco, Dutra.

vitoria.gifVitoria

Location: Salvador Manager: Paulo Cesar Carpegiani Stadium: Estádio Barradão Nickname: Leão da Barra

City Rivals: None in Serie A Home Form 2008: 11 Wins, 5 Draws, 3 Losses Road Form 2008: 4 Wins, 2 Draws, 13 Losses League Position 2008: 10th

Vitoria have very close similarities to Sport Recife, they have the same colors, the same mascot. Like Sport Recife, even the colors and the Mascot are the same they’re here to achieve something big if is a top 8 or win Copa do Brazil, Bahia state champions will make the south counterparts sweat, literally especially at home(they don’t have winter) and a very good and talented squad, they rarely lose at home and they love to surprise their opponents with a fast game especially utilizing the flanks with Apodi and nice balls being sent through from the maestro Ramon. Get ready for a good ride with Vitoria where’s plenty of talent to stay within the top 10 of this hard and lengthy league.

Key Players: Apodi, Ramon, Leandro Domingues, Wallace.

Predicted Finish: 9th

Haha again it's prediction based on what I've seen on team news and team play. How many people could of predicted Barueri to do this well and Cruzeiro to crap the bed. Either way there's still plenty of games to go, Sao Paulo made a crazy push last year to win the title so you never know the teams you see now may struggle if they don't start getting reinforcement soons, because the big boys are surely now focused in league play due to the end of Copa Libertadores.

Avai also moving up fast from 17th to 5th Corinthians also making a fight of it moving in the right direction, Me thinks they need to drastically improve their goal difference ratio.. Obviously you in a little more knowledgable on the brazilian league TorontoMike & i wonder if you could maybe do a little update on how teams have/hav'nt performed thus far.. Come on Corinthians
