3.10 Wolverhampton AW This is only a claiming race, but the top three in the weights (and the betting too) is where the winner should come from. On official ratings the fourth rated, Fire Up The Band (OR 50) is 28lb's worse than the third rated, Desperate Dan (OR 78), but is only carrying 4lb's less today! Essentially, Fire Up The Band and below can be scratched, leaving Harry Up, Yungaburra and Desperate Dan to choose from. These three horses also have no less than 18 course and distance wins between them. Looking at the their most recent form figures would suggest that Yungaburra is out of form at present, leaving Harry Up and Desperate Dan. These two have met seven times recently with Desperate Dan coming out ahead 4 times, (3 of these as outright wins), and on official ratings, Desperate Dan is 2lb's better off today. So Desperate Dan is the choice. 1st Desperate Dan - 2pts win 2nd Harry Up - Forecast (or possibly a twist forecast) 3rd Yungaburra

Re: Wolverhampton AW - 11/05/09 4.10 Punch Drunk 16/1 sj bog 5 pts e.w Looks a tricky race this but going this way round I feel Punch Drunk could return to better form. She has shown a few times now she regularly hangs left handed so having the rail here could well help and there is every reason to think she could get a really good early position, possibly leading from a nice draw in 2. As for her form, she won on her second start at big odds but did it quite well before finding handicaps a bit too tough but some of her runs were fair. Notably her third at yarm that has received boosts from 4/5 horses from that race who have won/run well since and proven they were better than their marks that day. She was very poor on her first start this year due to the hanging and also her trainers poor form, he is getting back in better form now so could be ready to strike again. Also is entered at hq later in the week which sometimes is noteworthy.
