Paul Nicholls has said that Nozic is a doubtful runner for the National if Snoopy Loopy pulls out and the weights go up as his horse would then carry top weight of 11-10. Why has he come to this conclusion as Nozic is currently down to carry 11-8 anyway, so what difference is 2 lbs going to make? The extra weight he will be asked to carry is a mere 1.2 % of the total burden on his back, absolutely nothing. I can understand his frustration if his horse was below 11-5 before the withdrawal of Snoopy Loopy or even below 11-0 as everyone commonly goes on about the fact national winners carry less than x amount of weight, but Nozic was above this threshold anyway so I don't get what his problem is. He was always going to carry a big weight as a horse rated 159. Maybe Nicholls is trying to paper over the fact his horse was stuffed at Kempton last time out, albeit over shorter and is using this as an excuse just to save face for this doubtful stayer. Whenever he runs the horse in a future handicap he is going to have to live with this handicap rating and if he feels he can now only been run in non-handicaps then why bother entering him for the National in the first place? .......in other news Bet 365 are now going non-runner no bet and pay five places on the National, if anyone missed the story on the RP.
