Re: Chester 29/08 2.55 South Cape EW @ 9/1 I often feel it pays to follow course winners on a specialist track like Chester and the one I like here is the Mick Channon trained South Cape. He has only run twice at Chester, but those 2 runs hailed 1 win, and 1 2nd in similar races to today's. It looks a tough race today, but South Cape is a horse that can probably be relied on to put in a good performance at a track he likes. The jockey on board is a positive, and South Cape's recent form shows he is ready to run a big race. The big fields seem to suit him as you tend to get a truly run race and I think this horse is a great EW bet. Daaweitza EW @ 28/1 A saver bet to the main selection, but another with decent form at the course. I really cant believe th price of this Brian Ellison trained horse as when you look at his form, he has a good chance to win this. Although he has mainly been campaigned at a lower level, he rarely runs a bad race and his last run at Chester 5 runs ago was excellent in this class. He took a while to get going but came with a flying finish at the end. Since then, he has been tried in better races and not been able to repeat that effort, except when he ran well in the big Ladies handicap. Last time out, Daaweitza pu in a poor performance at this course, but if you ignore that run his recent form at this level and at this course puts him in with an excellent chance. The race should be run to suit and Robert Winston takes the ride. 4.05 Excellerator @ 4/6 This looks one of today's best bets to me, and I will be backing this horse accordingly, even at the short price. Only 4 go to post, and it could be a tactical heat. The form of Excellerator, however, cant be matched. He has'nt won since his debut at Southwell, which he did impressively, but he has been running wit credit in better races. None were better than last time out where he was an excellent 3rd in a Group 3 race at Ascot. He led for a long way and just got caught near the line. He held on for 3rd and that was a great performance considering the quality of the race. Many horses have cpme out and performed creditably since that race, and I expect Excellerator to win this. Rosabee is a decent horse and he has only just been beaten by her twice. Of the others in the race, the Hannon horse looks a little one paced and only just won by a short head at Windsor last time. Aspen Darling could run well based on some of her form, but she looks exposed and I expect Excellerator to improve past her, and Aahaygirl will have to improve markedly on her 2nd here last time to beat the favourite. All in all, if the favourite runs to form, I expect a comfortable win. 5.10 Prelude EW @ 6/1 This is another horse that loves Chester, and I expect him to go close as he drops back down in class. This horse has only won 5 times in his career, and 4 of those have been at Chester. His last 2 runs can probably be ignored for todays race as they were at Class 4 level, and he is slightly out of his depth when running in those races. Today, however, he drops back down to class 5 and into an amateur riders race. He has been in the top 3 in his last 3 races at this level, and won his last race at this level, at this track. Today sees the same circumstances and he should go close. His form at tjis level is excellent and the fact this race is run at his favourite course is a bonus. The others in the race are nothing special and the Brisbourne combination are a good pair to follow in these types of races. :hope:ok
