2.10 Goodwood The majority of my handicap selections come from on constantly updated list of horses to follow. I tend to follow them all the time I believe they are well handicapped. Many times a few meet in the same race which is unfortunate but this way of betting has always worked for me. The first at Goodwood contains a few of those horses that I believe are well handicapped. Roaring Forte went into many notebooks last season when breaking the 2yo track record at Lingfield. Combination of fitness and trip (7f too short now) to blame for defeat on seasonal debut, but wasn't disgraced when 3rd to Carnolian. The winner won with something in hand NTO, the 2nd has won and the 4th was Kalahari Gold - although I think the race of this type come too soon for Kalahari Gold and that wasn't his true running. Lost nothing in defeat LTO either when 2nd to Grande Annee, the winner won NTO despite a 9lb hike, the 3rd ran well NTO when 2nd in a fair Newmarket handicap earlier today and the 7th Storm Sir won a Lingfield maiden very nicely. Roaring Forte has been raised 3lb for that effort but clearly still well treated. Haggas thought 10f would suit in time so could be ready for this new trip of 9f. Summerstrand sprung a surprise FTO and ran a fine race LTO on her handicap debut at Windsor earlier in the month. It was a tough ask for her to win that race and her handicap bow and I think she ran well in 4th. The 1-2-3 Born Tobouggie, Willow Dancer and Fountains Abbey all looked fairly treated, the 4th and 8th have franked the form since by running well in defeat. Crusoe's Return has been allotted a handicap mark of 79. Stepped up on ok debut effort when finishing 2nd to Speed Ticket on his 2nd start. The 3rd Woodcutter won a maiden, the 4th Hunting Country won two handicaps and the 5th Hendersyde also won a handicap. Looks well treated on that form although run below that form on his last start - another Windsor maiden. Mr Hichens is a little awkward and has already thrown two races away (off 69 and 74). Was unlucky in running on his penultimate start (74) but finally got his head in front when running away in a maiden - benefitted from chance of tactics possibly. Has to be a threat off 77 as so far he has been going close despite keeping something to himself. I napped Gross Prophet LTO as I thought he was thrown in. Won well and 7lb hike is fair. Can probably win again off this sort of mark but maybe in a weaker race for the grade. Re: Goodwood 24/08/08 3.20 Quirina - I put this one up for her win at Hayd two runs ago. John Gosden's filly ran in a decent maiden on her debut last year finishing close behind Dar Re Mi and a few other subsequent winners at a lesser level (La Coveta, Wannabe free). On her reappearance this season she contested a decent maiden at Chester in which Portodora, Lindelaan and Moon Sister finished infront. Lindelaan especially has boosted that form since although Portodora ran out a facile winner on Weds too, so that form looks strong. She's only been contesting class 4 and 5 handicaps since but she's unbeaten from two starts in handicap company and you can only beat what is infront of you. She clearly has potential given the form with Lindelaan (she was only a length or so off that rival and Lindelaan just won off 93) so I'm taking a punt here even though this listed event represents an increase in class. 7/2
