Southwell 6/5/08

Southwell 3.00 - Yakimov You cannot help but be impressed with the form of this animal at this level. Form figures of 1111 since the turn of the year are impressive enough, but a look at his winning distances - 1.5, 12, 4.5 and 5 lengths - reiterate the strength of his claims further still. He rattled up a hat-trick for former trainer DJ Wintle before being claimed by Ollie Pears, and scored for his new connections in another claimer at the back end of last month. He was impressive enough and well clear of Little Jimbob back in second. Jamie Moriarty takes the ride again here looking to make it two from two as Yakimov bids for his fourth course and distance win on the fibresand. 8/13 Betfred Southwell 4.00 - The King And I This one has come on since joining Emma Lavelle's yard and added a second career win to his name last time out over course and distance seven days ago. He carries a 6 lb penalty as a consequence of that win but could still go well under the guidance of Neil Callan, who brought about its latest victory and is in decent form. It was only a small field that he beat last time out, although he did have Mid Valley, who had some good course form going into the race, behind. This is a tougher task with course and distance winners Bentley Brook, Jackie Kiely and Exit to Luck in the field. Cotton Eyed Joe is also back in form and ranks another danger, however, if the market speaks positively about The King And I then he will be my selection here. Currently 7/2 Betfred

Re: Southwell 6/5/08 2.30 Double Bill (4.3 betfair) bounced back to form LTO and his early form last season would make him a cert. Won a maiden, then a good 4th at Kempton (Royal Rocks and Big Noise 1-2). Stable flying but wears cheekpieces here for the first time. Selected Spoof Master (4.3 betfair) on his last two starts when he was narrowly beaten. Little unlucky in running last time, and I still think he is very well handicapped. Acts on fibresand. Split stakes.
