Wincanton ~ Sunday

3.30 Mango Catcher EW 8/1 Betfred Not easy to find a horse at this stage of the jump season that is still fairly fresh, improving, fairly handicapped and a value price. Mango Catcher could be the type to follow over the next few weeks, fairly modest form in Ireland before coming over to join the present trainer, first run for 6 months when running a cracker at Kempton when being heavily backed from 33's into 8's, finished second that day, then went on to win at Chepstow when i thought the track wasnt ideal as the horse has pace rather than stamina in my opinion. Anyway the way he made up ground that day impressed me and Wincanton could be an ideal place. Plenty of last time out winners here but a few of the opponents need to produce lifetime bests and have had a long season, with all that in mind i reckon the 8/1 is a very fair price, wouldnt be surprised if its backed again by connections either.

Re: Wincanton ~ Sunday 4.00 Wincanton - The Jolly Spoofer 153903.gif I agree the fav is worth his odds, but the race is full of absolute rags. I think 4 horses are playing for 3 places and this is only if the Hobbs runner has improved. But his one outing was a disappointing last at Sandown 5 months ago and with the form of the yard this year I won't count on improvement. The 2nd fav Cheating Chance has performed well lto, but didn't beat much in 2nd. The winner from the race is a decent sort, but nothing special. And the other horses are absolute rags. My selection was noted by me at Ascot when finishing 3rd @ 100/1. Then he went on to finish 6th at Sandown, where Punchestowns won and The Jolly Spoofer was doing some very good late work without being asked by Paddy Brennan. Last race can be forgiven, because Mick Fitz reported the horse wasn't right. Today Choc Thornton is back on board and he can put this horse right. Just like he did it at Ascot placing 3rd. Worth a punt at 7/1.
