Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March Not too up on F1, love to watch but never seem to absorb much info, was wondering, Piquet jr seems like a value bet to get a podium in this first race. Maybe well out with this but 34/1 seems very generous to me.

That sort of price isn't really my thing in F1....but stranger things have happened:loon. That 34 is out of line with other firms and certainly wouldn't consider him at 15 or 17 that some firms are offering. You'd need a few things to happen, namely problems for at least two of the Ferraris and McLarens. He's also in the same car as Alonso, and expect Alonso to start the season pretty well and really try to get on top of Piquet early. Also think on pace Piquet will be behind the BMWs and Rosberg, and he'll probably be around the Red Bulls. So I'd be looking for him to qualify between 7th and 11th and he'd have to drive a great race. Remember it's his debut so he might be a little careful early on, or he might just go for it like Hamilton did last year. I think you'd need a first corner pile up, which could happen the way the start is in Australia - it probably should have happened last year with the move Hamilton made! For me I'd be more interested in the 3.00 for him to finish in the points, but good luck if you go for it:hope I'm waiting till after practice before getting involved - need data:dude

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March Really looking forward to this season, it's going to be great:drums HAMILTON Pole Position @ 3.57 Pinnacle. Going for Hamilton to get the job done in qualifying, as I think he and Kimi should be much closer in the prices. Practice pretty much confirmed what I thought from testing at the front of the pack with Ferrari and McLaren being very evenly matched. Perhaps McLaren quicker over a single lap and Ferrari quite a bit better over longer runs. I think McLaren know this so I fancy they'll go a couple of laps lighter than optimum to try to get pole as that's there best chance of winning the race. Kimi complained of struggling with balance in P2 so think that might make them go a little heavier to optimise the race strategy where they'll be very strong. Massa should be close and has shown decent pace, but as I've mentioned in the outrights I think Kimi and Hamilton will show this season that they have an extra couple of tenths of raw speed. Kovalienen has said he just wants a solid weekend, so think he'll be looking for a good race strategy and a solid 3rd or 4th. Think this price should be around 2.75, with Kimi 2.65 making him a very slight favourite as the Ferrari does very slightly look like the faster car.

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March Cheers mate:ok Nothing else appeals before qualifying. Was thinking of a couple of 'to finish in the points' bets but I'm going to leave them until after qualifying. Behind the Big 4 I've got no idea how it looks on pace, 5th to 15th could be separated by 4-5 tenths in Q2!

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March Yeah that's one of the ones I was thinking of. Shame he's around 2.1 so not exactly an outsider after showing decent pace in practice. I think he'll benefit from the manual starts so will expect him to move up a few spots. Hopefully he'll qualify around 10th-13th so we'll be able to get a better price on him loaded up with fuel:tongue2.

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March For a bit of fun I have backed Mark Webber to get pole @ 150 with Betfair. The guy finished 2nd in practice and yes, I know qualifying might be different but at the same time that was a promising session from his team and Webber as a driver. I think that he will go in to the qualifying session full of confidence and give it his all and who knows, sometimes strange things happen. At those odds I only put a couple quid on but will get decent reward should strange things happen. If not then I lose only a few pound... so what? 1 pint costs £3 so hardly a big loss! :loon

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March Think that Kubica is going to get a podium finish, he's 2nd on the grid and only missed out on pole because of a slight error at the end of his lap. Kimi starting at the back is a plus, the BMW saubers seem to be going very nicely and as Mr Intensity said in another thread Kubica has got the car how he wants it now and showed that by setting the fastest time in final practice and coming 2nd on the grid. Kubica podium finish 6/4 @ Stan James.

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March

Many accidents in the melb f1 gp? For safety car to be used paying 1.75. Is that a good bet?
Seems reasonable. Track looks very low grip and there have been a lot of spins so far - also a few areas with not much run off area. Start too could be a bit mental, especially with Kimi low down and added randomness of first time without traction control at the start for a while. Good luck with Kubica Ronnie:ok. Seems very light, and would expect Massa to be strong. Think it's between Kubica/Kovalienen and Kimi for 3rd, you really need him to keep at least 2nd off the start then be able to hang with Hamilton for the first stint (and no safety car:unsure). Kimis car problem made it a lot easier, but Hamilton got the job done so start the season with a nice priced winner:cow:cow

Re: Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 15-16th March HAMILTON/MASSA duel forecast @ 2.75 Ladbrokes. Note this covers Hamilton/Massa and Massa/Hamilton. Basically, if there in no incident with the front runners, this is how I see it finishing. I think Massa is going to be really strong even starting from 4th. Ferrari haven't got the single lap pace yet and they have been struggling to get temperature into the tyres during quali. But, during the race, I think they will be awesome on longer runs. Have to think Massa is heavier than the 3 in front of him and I'd expect him to pick off Kubica and Kovalienen at the first stops. I think Hamilton has the pace to get away early on, and will be very difficult to pass on the track. I think a Hamilton/Massa finish is likely, Kimi too far back to get involved but could well get a 4th or 5th. UNDER 15.5 finishers @ 1.72 Sportingbet. Really like this bet, and it is the bases for several of my other bets. Main reason is that the track has been very low grip all weekend, more than normal. Tyres in the race will take a pounding, and I think there will be a lot of spins causing some retirements. Also, a lot of quicker guys further back in the grid (Kimi, Alonso, Webber, Glock). These guys should be coming through so creating more chances of crashes. The start, now without traction control, and a first part of the lap that has seen many early crashes I think they're a good chance of an incident on lap 1 and possibly a pile up. Finally, there have been a lot of reliability problems this weekend, so don't expect everyone to be bullet proof in the race (so don't take any short prices!). ALONSO to beat Heidfeld @ 3.31 Pinnacle. Heidfeld starts 5th with Alonso 11th. Alonso had a differential problem in Q2 which is why he didn't make the top 10 as he would definately have been there on pace. I always expect him to be better in the race than in quali so I think there's a great chance for him to make up several places. I'm also thinking back to a couple of years ago, before traction control, when the Renaults were incredible off the line and perhpas they've still got it. Alonso is actually in a pretty decent position in 11th as he should be on an optimum race fuel strategy. Compare this to Heidfeld, who didn't manage the heroics of teammate Kubica but he doesn't have Kubicas raw pace in this car so I think he could still be pretty light. Also I think he's in an interesting spot on the grid. He was 1.3s faster than Trulli in Q3 (adding to my fuel theory) so if he drops back behind Trulli or Rosberg it's going to be a disaster and Alonso could be very close to him already. He needs a good start, stay in 5th and hang on to Massa and Kovalienen. I just think Alonso has a shot at this and should get stronger as the race goes on, and I don't think this should be over 2.5. WEBBER to finish in the points @ 3.75 Sportingbet. Webber has been comfortably in the top 10 all weekend but is starting 14th due to brake failiure in Q2. He's got Kimi right beside so it's probably a 15th net but I still think he's a good shout for scoring some points. As I've already mentioned I think there will be a lot of incident so if he can get a clear run I can see him making up a lot of places. The Hondas and Nakajima should should be passable in the first stint and if he can get up to around 10th be half way it's definately on.
