I installed it on my hard drive and it worked. But I have two hard drives and installed it on the one that wasn't the C: drive, which might make a difference. I think you may need a good quality USB stick (does USB2 mean something? :unsure). I tried and it told me (in slightly more polite terms) "That's a piece of shit! I'm not going on there!"
