What is your view on rebuy tourneys?

Hi 1st of all I need to precise that my poker experience is one week only ;) As I stated elsewhere I'm having good fun and showing a profit for now at the 6-seaters SNG tables, but I've been particularly bad in all the (4 or 5) MTTs I have entered. I need to study the game I know! Anyway, I was wondering what you all think of those MTTs with rebuys allowed; it seems crazy with all these players going all-in right away, looks like a completely different game to me - I'd call that the "race to the wallet". I know I'll focus on freezeouts, but was curious if there are a lot of rebuys partisans here Fred

Re: What is your view on rebuy tourneys? First of all - 4 or 5 MTT's is an incredibly small sample - typically 10% of the field are paid - that means if you are an average player and you play 10xMTTs you should only expect to get in the cash once - you should expect long long barren spells in MTT's (compared to STTs where typically 30% of the field cash) Rebuys are generally quite unpopular amongst PL'rs - it's not really poker as we know it (or expect it) - however, where players are playing with abandon, they are basically donating money, so there are opportunities for them to be highly profitable.... If you are new to MTT's, then I would recommend sticking to freezeouts initially, to ensure you develop a more solid game..... I would also recommend you read the "bible of MTTs" - The Harrington on Holdem Trilogy (first 2 volumes are the best)

Re: What is your view on rebuy tourneys? I enjoy playing rebuys and have generally found them profitable. However, for a new player I would recommend low buy-in freezeouts or STTs. That said, micro buy-in rebuys (like Virgin's Monday night 10 cent rebuy) are a lot of fun and can offer a good return for a little investment.
