Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Head-to-head Six league meetings: Newcastle - 3 wins, Queensland - 3 wins Previous meeting Queensland 0 Newcastle 3 (Suncorp Stadium, Hyundai A-League 2006/07 round 16, December 2006) Past five results Newcastle: Win - Loss - Win - Draw - Draw Queensland: Draw - Win - Loss - Win - Draw Like so many Hyundai A-League teams, defensive woes continue to dog the Queensland Roar with club captain Craig Moore serving a one-match sanction this weekend for his sending off against Adelaide United. Moore will sit alongside full-backs Hyuk-Su Seo (suspended) and Andrew Packer (hamstring) on the sidelines with the possibility of ex-international left-back Danny Tiatto joining the trio after his citing for serious foul play. Football Federation Australia has asked to speak to Tiatto following his heavy tackle on Adelaide defender Richie Alagich in the first-half last Saturday with the former Socceroo answering the charge on Thursday afternoon. If Tiatto fails to plead his case, Queensland coach Frank Farina will be left with only four recognised defenders in Sasa Ognenovski, Josh McCloughan, Stuart McLaren and Ben Griffin although Packer is an outside chance of returning after a six-game absence. Newcastle coach Gary van Egmond is also forced into defensive changes with right-back Andrew Durante likely to miss two weeks after falling awkwardly and injuring his left ankle in the stalemate with Perth. The Jets' backline, led expertly by new recruit Adam Griffiths, was largely responsible for the club's valuable point against the Glory with Van Egmond expected to choose between Adam D'Apuzzo and Steve Eagleton to replace Durante. The midfield contest between Newcastle's Jobe Wheelhouse and Stuart Musialik and Queensland pair Matt McKay and Massimo Murdocca is an enthralling one with another Jets youngster Troy Hearfield also recalled to the squad. Wheelhouse was forced off in the second-half last week with cramp but should retain his place in the starting XI, however, wingers Jorge Drovandi and Tarek Elrich are not selected and nor is marquee signing Mario Jardel. Farina recalls 18-year-old midfielder Mitch Nichols after he served a one-match suspension last week with fellow teenager Tahj Minniecon also looking for his league debut. In the most remarkable head to head record of any pairing, Queensland has won all three Hyundai A-League matches played in Newcastle while the Jets have won all three matches played in Brisbane.

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) CURRENT ODDS Centrebet Newcastle $2-40 The Draw $3-20 Queensland $2-80 Sportingbet Newcastle $2-30 The Draw $3-20 Queensland $2-90 Queensland are great odds at $2-90 for mine. The Jets are a handy side but the Roar look solid down back and they have plenty of goal scoring options.

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Tiatto banned for two games with one suspended QUEENSLAND Roar defender Danny Tiatto has been handed a two-game ban, with one suspended, following his disciplinary hearing at Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) headquarters in Sydney this afternoon. The ban means that Tiatto will miss Sunday’s game against the Newcastle Jets but will be eligible to return against the Central Coast Mariners at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday 6 August. However, should Tiatto receive as much as a yellow card in that game, the suspended ban of one week will be implemented. Roar CEO Lawrence Oudendyk said the club contested a point of principle surrounding the laws of the game, but had at no time argued that the tackle by Tiatto was anything other than “crude”. “We wish to make it clear that we do not, and never have, condoned the nature of the tackle in question and that is a matter we will deal with internally. “However, we felt very strongly that we should contest this charge on the principle that the officials made a determination on the challenge during the game. Whether that determination was correct or incorrect is not the issue as the referee’s decision, as we are always told, is final. “Whilst we are disappointed with the outcome, we accept the decision of the panel and now wish to turn our attention our upcoming game against the Newcastle Jets on Sunday.”

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Ognenovski in doubt for Roar Frank Farina was putting on a brave face but Queensland's dwindling defensive stocks have suffered another blow after Sasa Ognenovski failed to finish the Roar's 90-minute training session on Friday morning. Ognenovski rolled his ankle after landing awkwardly with Farina to make a decision on whether or not the towering defender will travel to Newcastle after Saturday's final session. "There's no point flying if he's struggling," the Roar coach said. "We arrive Saturday afternoon and play Sunday afternoon so not a lot will change in 24 hours." Former Socceroos Craig Moore and Danny Tiatto are already serving one-match suspensions for Queensland's visit to the Jets this weekend with versatile Hyuk-Su Seo also unavailable because of a ban. Farina was expected to line-up with Ognenovski partnering the returning Josh McCloughan in central defence and Ben Griffin and Andrew Packer at full-backs. Packer has already been drafted into the Roar squad ahead of schedule having not played since tearing his hamstring in the pre-season friendly clash with South African side Supersport United. "He's not ready for 90 (minutes), there's no doubt about that," Farina said. "It would be too much of a risk trying to do that but he's training well and has got through all this week so he'll be part of the squad." "It's always a gamble bringing in players that are coming back from injuries." "It's most probably a little bit sooner than what we would have expected but you've got to do it sometime." With Ognenovski now in doubt, Stuart McLaren will most likely revert from the holding role in midfield with Chris Grossman retaining his position in the centre. "I wouldn't say bare bones. We'll be right," Farina maintained. "One of the key things was making sure we had depth when we were looking at signing players at the beginning of the year and we need it at the moment," he added. "As much as I'm not happy about missing players, I'm still comfortable with what we've got." McCloughan, a candidate to take the armband in Moore and Tiatto's absences, thought Ognenovski would pull through in time to make the plane for Newcastle. "He's a pretty tough boy. I think he'll be fine," he said. "Knowing how much Sash loves playing I can't see too much keeping him from playing." Former Jets frontman Ante Milicic also suffered a knock earlier in the week and is expected to be replaced in the starting side by Scottish striker Simon Lynch

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Going to be a big ask for Queensland to cover the loss of Tiatto, Moore, Ogenovski and Milicic, although Moore and Tiatto didn't play with the ROar last year. Big Sasha Ogenovski out of defence is a huge loss to Queensland's defence and I am not so keen on the at this point in time.

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Roar rocked by late injuries QUEENSLAND Roar will be massively depleted for today's A-League match with Newcastle Jets after losing Sasa Ognenovski and Ante Milicic to injury. Towering defender Ognenovski rolled both ankles in training on Friday and will not be risked, while striker Milicic picked up a knock to his knee during the week. Both players were ruled out at the team's final training session this morning. Queensland were already stripped of the services of former English Premier League players Danny Tiatto and Craig Moore, and South Korean Hyuk-Su Seo, all through suspension. Frank Farina has only 15 players at his disposal for the EnergyAustralia Stadium clash and will be reliant on a number of youngsters to fill the gaps. "We wouldn't have brought them in if we didn't think they were up to it so of course I'm confident they will do the job if called upon," Farina said. "It's been a tough week and we didn't expect our depth to be tested this early in the season, but this is all part of the game and you won't hear us complaining because we just have to get on with it."

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Newcastle Jets vs Queensland Roar

This should be an interesting game with all previous meetings being won by the away team every time. Queensland are missing a number of players, including Moore, Tiatto, Ogenovski and Milicic which will hit them very hard defensively. The Jets lose Andrew Durante to injury and included in the squad is Steve Eagleton, Scott Tunbridge, Troy Hearfield and Paul Kohler.

Newcastle have never beaten the Roar when playing at the Jet’s home ground which is an interesting stat. Queensland has failed to score in the last two meetings against Newcastle.

Queensland had more shots than a rabid dog in their first game of the season against Adelaide. They should have scored many more goals but they were unable to finish as they should. The Jets played Perth in Round 1, and considering Perth had a scoreless draw at the Telstra dome cauldron last night against Melbourne then the form is not too bad.

Hard game to pick here, but the Roar look very vulnerable down back with big Sasha Ogenovski missing along with Craig Moore and Danny Titatto, and with Milicic also missing makes it a huge ask for the away team. The Jets still have a good pair up front in Bridge and Griffiths and they are dangerous anytime they go forward. McClaren will most likely go back for Queensland and he is very capable player. I initially liked Queensland before they lost so many vital players to injury. Now I am swaying towards Newcastle Jets, especially after Perth’s tough effort last night against the Victory. Newcastle probably should have beat perth last week. It is worth noting that not many teams win the next week after playing their previous game in Perth. For me it is a no bet as there are too many questions that go unanswered.

NO BET

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Nice to see you Dave :ok Tiatto was very hard last week and added much grit to Queensland left side, but I thought a couple of his tackles bordered on ruthless, dirty more than hard. Maybe he was trying to make his presence felt beacuse as the game wore on he played a much more fairer style of football.

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Its going well thanks, better than I ever anticipated to be honest. Weather has been great which helps, regularly in the 90's in the summer. However it does drop a few degrees come the winter! Colorado is such a nice place to live in and visit, so much to do. Sport all over the place except cricket which is killing me! Mind, I have taken to Baseball like a duck to water and now the NFL is due to start which means cheering on the 49ers again! Impressed with the area I live in, the Rockies are about one hour away and they're amazing to be honest. Still not as nice as Western Australia though but you can't have everything and of course nothing can compare with the beauty of North Wales!

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) Hi guys, missed having a bet on last night's matches, but managed to watch the Sydney - Adelaide match.... reasonably pleased with the 2-2 draw, anyway, on to the Jets v Roar. I think there may be a few goals in this one, with both sides scoring. Very interesting fact beejayville with the away side always winning this fixture. With the Roar's defence depleted, this game will be pretty even, in my opinion. 2-3/3-2. GL to all having a bet.;)

Would love to go see a couple of American sports. NBA, Baseball, NFL or NHL would be unbelievable to see. I dont follow any American sports at all, but to experience one would be incredible. NHL would be good fun, is that as popular over in the USA as what it appears?

Re: A League Round 2 - Newcastle v Queensland (Sun 2nd Sep - 5pm) FT: Newcastle Jets 1 - 1 Queensland 70m Reinaldo 70 87m J.Griffiths 87 Fairly good game this one and the draw was probably a fair result. Nice goal by Reinaldo for the Roar and then a super free kick by Joel Griffiths late in the match earns both sides a point. Great effort by the Roar to snatch a draw away from home with so many players out. They look the goods this year and with a full team in they can beat anybody. The Jets played their same resolute foot ball and look to be heading in the right direction after losing the classy Nick Carle pre season to Turkey. Griffiths is a great talent to have in the team, and while he is there the Jets will always be able to score goals.
