Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) On first glances, St Kilda at $2.00 looks good value. They dont have too bad a record over West Coast and are definately worth a show here. Carlton on some kind of line or handicap could be a chance too, Kangaroos aren't particularly playing all that well lately after 3 straight losses and Carlton ahve been playing well under new coach Brett Ratten. Western Bulldogs have won 4 of their past 5 matches head to head against Hawthorn, so the $2.30 on the Dogs maybe worth investigating a bit more, perhaps taking them on the line may be a shot. Last but not least is Essendon at $1.50 against Richmond. Theres no way Essendon will want to lose this, it will be Kevin Sheedy and James Hirds final match in Melbourne for their careers and it will be a massive night of celebration and tributes to these two, Essendon will be more motivated than ever to win. Take the $1.50 now while you can..

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) 7! Well...I guess there was some pretty strong (circumstantial albeit) evidence... ...wonder if Voss ever 'fessed up? Not sure how the AFL takes a Freo official as a credible witness tho. Still, I think there would be plenty of people around playing that would gladly give up 7 weeks to belt that little moronic tosspot. On a brighter note...I picked the Ben Johnson penatly @ 6. (well, technically not, but with the plea I'll take it!!) Definately deserved 6 weeks. A rush of blood no doubt, 'cause he knew immediatedly, but just can't be having that kind of contact. Probably the best (most accurate) review panel dicision yet. Richmond and Brisbane for me this week for sure. Also tempted by Carlton, but bad record without the Fev...would want +30ish, not sure we'll quite get it...might be pleasantly surprised. One of those funny games...I was looking at the numbers thinking, the Kangas will be a nice little filler this week...only to see them 1.18 and falling!!! WTF!! I was thinking 1.40 or better!!!

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) Johnson should have got twelve. Did you hear Eddy hijacked the radio all fired up because the morons (I know you all know that means Collingwood supporters) in the stand were telling him Rex Hunt called for Johnson's head - no such call at all remotely near the mark or of any type of ilk. Kangaroos, Collingwood, Brisbane, Hawthorn and maybe Richmond for me. Essendon still with no GENUINE MCG form.

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) The Kangaroos last 5 haven't been great statistically...esp. their last 3, admittedly against 3 top class teams... ...but -8 I50's per game is actually worse than Carlton. Of course their defense still is non-existant, but only trips to Sydney and Brisbane have seen them lose by more than 24 points in the last 7. The Kangaroos haven't beaten Carlton by more than 30 since the end of the 2003 season...and 1 of those games (Rd. 22. 2005) was without Fev. The first meeting this season was a 17 point win to Kangaroos @ Carrara, but equal I50's, equal clearances, Carlton had more of the ball...the difference was the Blues' leaky D... ...and I know it's a long way from turning right around, but they are off their best defensive performance of the year by a long way...allowing Ess to score just every 2.21 entries. (They av. 1.68!) In fact, it's up to 1.82 in their last 5, so it looks like there's been some improvement at least under Ratten. The Kangaroos have won just 1 game in their last 10 by more than 25 points @ the Dome, and that was against a horribly under-manned Melbourne in rd. 16. Take no notice of Adelaide's win last week against the struggling Bulldogs (who they always beat anyway.) It was just their second win in their last 6, the other being at home against Port by just 8 points...and that includes a loss at home to 13th placed Freo, and also Essendon who are really struggling right now. They've struggled all year at home, mainly with kicking a big enough score to win...they av. just 2 more shots a game at home than their opp, and travelling to AAMI certainly doesn't worry the Lions, having won 4 of their last 5 games there, and not lost a game by more than 6 points in their last 9!! (They've been reasonably big underdogs the last 2 wins aswell) Despite the hickup v. Hawthorn, where they only had 4 less shots anyway, Brisbane are still going aswell as any team in the comp (besides Geelong of course!!) They av. +13 I50's in their last 5, and when you have J. Brown in your team you're never out of it! Will gladly take the points here, and a win @ 3.00 is a distinct possibility. Why are Essendon big favs here? Makes no sense to me at all. -8 I50's in the last 5...Richmond just -3...in fact they had more forward entries than West Coast last week in Perth!! Richmond haven't been scoring all that well, but have played some good defensive teams, and Essendon have allowed 31 shots or more in 7 of their last 9!! Tough to believe, but the last SEVEN Richmond losses have been all by teams in the top 8!!!...bad run! They beat a struggling Collingwood, and I don't see any reason at all they won't beat an equally poor Essendon who have just 2 wins in their last 7, and haven't won a game in the last 12 by more than 12 points! Combine that with a god-awful MCG record (3 wins in their last 10, none by more than 13), and these odds look way off...:unsure WIll also be looking at some totals as usual...aboiut the only game I'm not interested in is the Friday night game. St. Kilda must be some show...esp. if Judd and Cousins are still out...but they still aren't going all that well, and the Eagles beat the Kangaroos reasonably easily at the dome 2 weeks ago, so no great confidence either way. Good Luck guys. :dude

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) The excitement never stops in the lead up to the finals. It’s great to see the on-field action being talked up instead off the rubbish that occurs off the field. However, I want to touch on a few matters raised through the week.

The injury to Daniel Kerr is just about the knockout blow for the Eagles. They’ve had to deal with so much this year, but losing Kerr is like a dagger through the heart. Playing semi-fit players in the midfield such as Judd, Cousins and Fletcher will inevitably come back and bite them in the backside. They might still win their last 2 games and claim the double chance home final, but everything will need to go right from here on in.

The Steven Baker case was a complete balls up from every party involved. People contradicting one another, people saying they saw the incident, then backtracking when it came to the crunch. Everyone had egg on their face and Baker copped 7 games. The whole thing was a joke from start to finish and is another black eye for the AFL.

The Blues have their man, appointing Brett Ratten as their coach for the next 2 seasons. It wasn’t a very exhaustive search after Voss dropped out of the race. Hopefully it works out for the Blues, but there is still plenty of pain ahead and plenty of dead wood to be disposed off.

The games this weekend and are once again another nightmare for tipsters. The Saints played their best game of the year last week against the Dockers and a repetition should beat the Eagles. They’ll miss Hudghton in defence, but welcome back Koschitzke to play ruck/forward. The Eagles’ defensive pressure through the midfield has been close to non-existent in the last 3 weeks allowing plenty of easy ball into their opponent’s forward line. The Saints will apply the clamps across the middle using up to 3 tags as they did against the Hawks a month ago. Eagles coach John Worsfold has flagged the theory that they might finish a few spots lower on the ladder to protect their gun players. This game is more important to the Saints at this stage and I expect them to win by a few goals.

The Pies must snap out of their lethargy if they are going to contend for a top 4 finish. The return of Buckley is a massive boost to the Pies and I’m sure he’ll be spending most of the night patrolling the forward line. Fraser being out gives Everitt and Jolly an armchair ride in the ruck and is an area the Pies need to break even. Leo Barry is likely to be a non-starter which opens the door to Collingwood’s key forwards to take some ascendancy. The Swans are just going at the moment with their forward line well down in their output and particularly poor against an ordinary Lions defence. The Pies aren’t going much better, but their 1st half against the Demons was top shelf and even though they fell over the line, they showed plenty of fighting spirit to hold on and win unlike the Swans. I’m picking the Pies to win in a similar fashion to their earlier meeting.

The Lions look to have slipped back to their early season form, with an over-dependence on Brown to kick the bulk of their score. Their team is starting to lose key players and without Charman to feed their midfielders, they face an uphill battle to compete with the Crows. The Crows look strong in defence and have their leader back. It will definitely be a midfield battle and a typical Adelaide arm wrestle, but they should win comfortably and keep their finals hopes alive.

The Bulldogs have a huge opportunity to derail Hawthorn’s finals campaign. The recent record over the Hawks is impressive and dealt with them earlier in the season by playing smart football. Smart is something you don’t associate with the Hawks after last week’s final quarter debacle. The game was won by the Bulldogs last time because Harris dominated the game in defence, zoned off Roughead and marked everything in sight. After last week, the Hawks are either going to blow the Bulldogs away, or go into their shell and try and eek out a victory. I’m in favour of the latter. I think the Hawks will crumble and the Dogs are just the team to take advantage and pick up a consolation victory.

The Cats have had a small setback for the Cats with Jimmy Bartel missing a couple of weeks with appendicitis. The Cats are going nicely and have dispensed with King in the ruck in favour of Blake. I picture a similar game to the one the Cats played against the Crows a fortnight ago. Both teams are great starters, which normally break the back off their opponents more often than not. Port’s quick midfield will cause the Cats some headaches, but the Cats should prevail by 4 or 5 goals. Number of players missing from best 22’s

... The recent record over the Hawks is impressive and dealt with them earlier in the season by playing smart football. Smart is something you don’t associate with the Hawks after last week’s final quarter debacle. ...
Yes ... you will have noticed 'smart' isn't so much the term I've been using for them lately. Don't know why I'm letting Sydney off so light either. Both owe me from last week. :@ Hawks were struggling with injuries last time they met, while WBD were strong.

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th)

Breaking news that couple of Hawks players have failed drugs test (no joke). Could be disastrous for their chances if that sort of inuendo hangs over the team.
A legal ban has gone onto the media, which is why their now not saying but you will find it is Hawthorn players.

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) Yeah, it's looking ominous there Taza. Could get 2.10 Hawthorn quarter time if quick (I got 2.05). Despite WBD with 20pt lead, Hawks were getting heaps of possession and just needed to get into gear. :hope * Cats with three quick goals as I've typed - level now.

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) Port - last few seconds again! :wall Initially intended taking Richmond to lead half time, then opted to play them first qtr leader. :\ How's Polak giving it to Richo as the designated kicked - fell of my chair when he did that.

Lord I hope it's not Crawf or Lenox Lewis...I'm 3 DT players short as it is!!! The final won't win itself you know!!...(without Flecther, Kerr, Jesse Smith....) 15 cartons on the line here! I couldn't care less about the 1000's of dollars Demma is winning of me @ Betfair....I like beer...

Re: AFL Football - Round 21 (August 24th - 26th) Totally agrere Ash. A certain 2 in that one. The Sydney guy (Buchanan was it?) showed the inconsistancies of the system too. Got 300+ points (3 weeks) which was about right imo, but got back to 1 with a plea and good behaviour. :\
