Shell Houston Open Golf

Recommended Posts

This weeks course is in Houston and with the Masters coming up next week is trying to emulate both the layout, length and green speed of the upcoming tournament. However, the lineup isnt exactly packed with stars with the main favourites being Adam Scott, Padraig Harrington, David Toms and KJ Choi. However, none of these look too appealing. Anthony Kim @ 81. At the tender age of 21 we cant expect too much from Anthony Kim, however, from his 7starts this year he already has one T9 and one T14 making more cuts than he's missed. Adding to this, he his worst score this year has been +5 in tough conditions at the Honda Classic where the winner only hit -5. His putting is not the best at the moment, however, for this tournament he is second in GIR stats which is vital. Moreover, in his first ever PGA start last year he came T2 at the Valero Texas Open so is happy playing in this part of the US and should hopefully keep up his record in Texas. Jose Maria Olazabal @ 51. Although he hasnt had the best year - with his best result being a 13th, he will still be a force to be reckoned with, especially if this layout is actually close to the masters. Olazabal has finished in the top 20 at the masters a lot more than he hasnt including 2wins and 3more top 5s (including a T3 last year). He also has a decent course record here in Houston playing in only '02 and '05 finishing 3rd both times. Class player who could start to find his feet in conditions that suit him after having 3decent and one bad round last week. Massive value @ 51. Rich Beem @ 67. Having missed 5consecutive cuts on this course, Beem finished 11th last year. A sign of things to come? I hope so. He has always been a streaky player who missed a lot of cuts but an air of consistency is showing at the moment having missed only 1cut in 6 in '07 and finished in the top 13 twice as well as a 22nd. He is in good form and more importantly is 18th in GIR and 4th in putting. Moreover, he has had a few decent finish in the Masters so he'll hopefully enjoy the conditions in Houston. GL

Re: Shell Houston Open Golf LUCAS GLOVER @ 25-1 Stan James e/w Has done well this year, a 4th at the PODS two weeks ago and a 26th in last weeks WGC CA, and two other tournaments this year he had overall scores of -10 & -12, so the birdies are going in and he is getting himself into contention, seems to be getting better with each start this year. A 21st in this event last year is not bad, but most people is gearing up to the Masters next week and Glover is a name who wants to win here before that.

Re: Shell Houston Open Golf It seems certain players have a good run on this course with Appleby and Singh performing particularly well of the past few years. With that I like the value of Long John Daly 150/1 Bet365 who finished runner-up in 2004. Also I think David Howell 66/1Skybet has been a top performer on the tour for the past couple of years.

Re: Shell Houston Open Golf Bit late this week but not the greatest event weve seen recently with the big one next week and many taking the week off to get down to the Masters early. Just two fair EW bets for me in the side markets; A.Cabrera in the 'Top International' market at VC Bet looks interesting, only 4/1 in the ROTW field but this one adds the Aussie players but the increase in price is worth it. Showed last week he's on the comeback trail and when on song this guy can play with the best in the world. Going for a real outsider in the European market, Anders Hansen now earning his corn on the PGA Tour took time to get used to things but a couple of cuts made and a very good display last time out shows he may be able to retain his card and cause one or two upsets on the way, at 28/1 with Tote he's over priced and a small bet is well worth it. A.Cabrera 10/1 Top International (1/5 1234) VC Bet A.Hansen 28/1 Top European (1/4 123) Totesport BH *PS: This is the line up in the 'International' market at VC Bet, all quoted. A.Scott 4/1 K-J Choi 11/2 S.Appleby 6/1 J.Senden 9/1 A.Cabrera 10/1 T.Clark 16/1 P.Lonard 16/1 M.Campbell 20/1 J.Lyle 20/1 S.Leaney 20/1 S.Elkington 28/1 C.Wi 28/1 R.Imada 28/1 J-M Singh 28/1 K.Na 40/1 M.Hensby 40/1 M.Goggin 40/1 P.Gow 50/1 S.Allan 50/1 G.Coles 50/1 B.De Jonge 66/1 J.Rutledge 80/1
