sensibleboy
Anyone got any suggestions? I am thinking of buying Barry Greensteins 'Ace On The River' and Dan Harringtons 'Harrington on Holdem' Anyone any advice etc? Cheers. :dude
mikerowe
Re: Poker Books Decent choice, but not particularly easy going... Along with SuperSystem, Harrington is pretty much the acknowledged 'Bible' for the modern player. Not read Greenstein, altho he makes a lot of sense when I've read articles and interviews with him. Personal favourite of mine are the couple of books TJ Cloutier and Tom McEvoy worked together on - I have a lot of time for both of them. Easy going books too. GaF
Re: Poker Books I think most players should be extremely cautious of reading the advice offered on NLHE in SuperSystem. In my view it can be an extremely damaging book. Can't recommend Harrington on Holdem (Vol I and II) enough FOR MTT's!!!
happyhornet
Re: Poker Books Agree with GaF above, Harrington is essential for MTT's. Reading Volume III now, and it is, IMO, better still than the previous books. The workbook/quiz format forces you to analyse every decision and seems to concentrate heavily on post-flop play, an area most of us could improve on. AJ
Re: Poker Books Still working through it, but have to recomend. "play poker like the pros" by Phil Helmuth Jnr. Bought it a month ago when I realised my game was going nowhere, I'd become a decent player who could win money on a consistant basis at low level STT's, but my skill level had stalled. Even the beginners section was worth the price of the book, Phil has helped me bring a lot more agression to my game, and now winning a huge number of pots that I'd have lost before (still don't have cards, just bet way better) Paid for itself in an evening, with still intermediate and advanced to fully incorperate in my game
