Re: Australian A League Round 5 Washup & Stats I have been keeping track of some Rateform figures for the A League with the intention of finding out the better performed teams to use as a guide. Basically, the teams started off with a figure around 1000+ which were generated from last season's form. The Home team gives 5% and the Away team gives 7% of their score before each round and the winner takes the total points and it is added to their score. If it is a draw then the teams share the points. The loser has his points deducted from their score. Rateform Table after Round 5

Melbourne Victory

1583

Queensland Roar

1484

Sydney FC

1249

Adelaide United

1199

Newcastle Jets

979

Perth Glory

776

NZ Knights

775

CC Mariners

763

NOTE: Clearly Melbourne and Queensland are the best performed teams after five rounds of A League action. Sydney is hovering dangerously and will benefit by the return of a few key players from injury. Adelaide is also well placed.

NOTE: Queensland and Perth doing most of the shooting and New Zealand is battling to get many shots in their games, averaging 8 per game. Suprisingly Sydney is 7th on the table for shots on goal but when you consider thay have four of last season's top 4 goalscorers currently missing then they are not doing too bad really, their shots on goal will increase when these players return, except for Yorke that is.. NOTE: Melbourne scoring at the great rate of 1 goal for every 5 shots, so teams will have to restrict Melbourne's attacks if they don't want to be scored against. Queensland's figures should be higher as they had 27 shots on goal on Friday night against Adelaide and missed countless opportunities to score. Theoretically if Perth, Knights and Mariners play teams with strong defences then they are going to struggle for shot opportunities and that means they are less likely to score due to their very low conversion rates, so something to keep in mind.

NOTE: From these stats you wouldn't want to be barracking for a goal from the Mariners and New Zealand in a hurry, one goal every 450 minutes, that's deplorable. Queensland and Melbourne scoring over two goals a game, and Adelaide, Sydney and Newcastle can almost be relied upon to score in most games they play. Good figures if any of these top five teams are playing the bottom three teams as teams 1 to 5 are most likely to score. Interestingly enough Queensland predominatly scoring in the second half, whereas Adelaide are more in the first half. Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle can score at any time, while Mariners have one goal in the first half, and Perth and New Zealand are second half scorers only.

NOTE: More intersting stats as Queensland have only been scored against in the first half, so if they are in front at half time then they can almost be relied upon to win. The Mariners have not been scored against in the first half either, but 100% in the 2nd half, may be good bet for (HT draw, FT opponent wins). Perth appear to get goals scored against them in the second half, may be one of those teams that tires late in a game. Melbourne and Adelaide also get goals scored against them mostly in the second half. Newcastle seem to be a team who get scored against early, then maybe they drop their heads a bit. Scoring: Goals for/against
Team 0-15 16-30 31-45 46-60 61-75 76-90

Sydney FC 0 - 2 1 - 0 3 - 1 2 - 1 0 - 2 2 - 0
NOTE: Melbourne are quick off the marks at the start of each half, scoring 6 goals in the first 15 minutes after the start of the game or the second half. The Mariners have let in 60% of their goals in the 15min time frame after half-time. New castle too let in goals in the first 15 minutes, so a quick scoring side playing the Jets may be a good bet for first goal scored. Worth noting that Queensland can score early, but they have also scored 6 goals late in a game in the last 15 minutes, so they finish games off strongly. Knights look like they would struggle to score at a rave party.

NOTE: Most goals are being scored in the last 15 minutes so may pay to look for teams that tire at the end of their games as they may get scored against late in the game. Next highest goals scored are the 15 minute period after half time and also the first 15 minutes of the game so may pay to look for teams who score early in the game, or score regualarly just after half time to find a winner. Scoring: +/- 2.5 goals

Perth Glory 2 3 2.6
Queensland Roar 2 3 2.6
Sydney FC 3 2 2.6
NOTE: The Mariners have had 5 games under 2.5 and that is mainly brought around by their inability to score, plus the fact that they do not let many goals through, so they may be worth following in Under 2.5 bets, especially when they play New Zealnd in NZ. Fouls

NOTE: Sydney are clearly the most undisciplined side followed closely by Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners. Queensland are an extremely disciplined and so too are Adelaide.

Re: Australian A League Round 5 Washup & Stats Weekend Wrap The Melbourne Victory juggernaut continued on, as they skipped four points clear at the top of the table with its fifth win on the trot after eclipsing Perth. Queensland also remains undefeated in second spot after a thrilling 0-0 draw with Adelaide. Defending Champion Sydney FC got back into the winner’s circle with a hard fought win against New Zealand Knights, while the local derby saw Central Coast and Newcastle share the points, which kept them at the rear of the table. Game Wraps Sydney FC put another week of turmoil behind them with a narrow win over New Zealand at North Harbour Stadium. Captain Mark Rudan scored, what he described as the best goal of his career, with a magnificently hit volley from just inside the edge of the penalty area. Malik Buari had a golden opportunity to level it just minutes later but put his shot over the bar from 10 metres. Sydney held on for the win, which moved them up into third place on the table. Whoever said 0-0 draws are boring should take a look at Queensland’s scoreless draw with Adelaide United, as an example of one that was exactly the opposite. This was a thrill-a-minute match, with most of the entertaining coming from a Queensland side that did everything but score. It was reminiscent of Queensland last year, where they often battered teams into submission, without actually getting the goals to get the three points. The biggest moment of the match came in the 58th minute, when Chinese import Shengqing Qu was sent off for headbutting Chad Gibson. Robert Bajic was outstanding in goal for Adelaide. The one real local derby of the Hyundai A-League lived up to expectations, with a tough, but thoroughly entertaining match at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford. Central Coast and Newcastle finished at one apiece, the result doing little to help their positions at the rear of the table. Full credit must go to the Jets, who fought back from a goal down and then reduced to 10-men after Paul Okon was sent off. Instead of going into their shell, they rebounded scored a deserved equalising goal by Joel Griffiths, who was later to be sent off in the dying minutes, after going down in the box, with the referee giving him a second yellow for diving. John Hutchinson ended over 500 minutes of Mariners misery by scoring their first goal of the season and they almost snatched a dramatic last minute winner with Adam Kwasnik hitting the post. Melbourne Victory showed the mettle of potential champions, with a 2-1 win over Perth at Members Equity Stadium in Perth, to increase its lead at the top of the table. After an ordinary first half, where Perth dominated, but did little to seriously test the Melbourne goal, the visitors stepped up a gear in the second half and record what was a fairly comfortable win. Former Perth player Adrian Caceres came back to haunt his old side by coming off the bench to put Melbourne in front early in the second half and then Kevin Muscat scored his fourth goal of the season with yet another calmly converted penalty kick. David Tarka did give the home side fans some hope however with a late goal, but ultimately it was all too late. Highlights The goalkeeping performances of Robert Bajic and Danny Vukovic were outstanding on a weekend, which ensured their sides at least got a point from their respective matches. Goal of the Week Not many to choose from this week, but Mark Rudan’s strike was a worthy match winner. After a long throw-in was left by Nikolai Topor-Stanley, the ball bounced invitingly for Rudan who swivelled and hit a waste high volley that rocketed past a stunned Michael Turnbull in the Knights goal. A special mention to John Hutchinson’s goal that ended the Mariners unwanted record-streak of minutes without scoring with his 12th minute strike. It won’t be remembered as one of his better ones, but it could be a turning point in the Mariners season. Player of the Week Two players will get a special mention this week and they are both goalkeepers. Adelaide’s Robert Bajic and Mariners keeper Danny Vukovic were simply outstanding this week. Under extreme pressure Bajic was solid as a rock, producing 12 saves, some of which were magnificent, as Adelaide somehow kept Queensland scoreless. Vukovic wasn’t under the same severe pressure, but when called upon he produced some breathtaking saves that were out of this world. He unfortunately could do little to stop Joel Griffiths equaliser though late in the match. One to Watch Mark Bridge has certainly turned a few heads this season at the Jets, with his all-action displays netting him two goals so far, after what can only be described as a horrendous first year in the Hyundai A-League. Missing the 2005 World Youth Championships hit Bridge hard and he hardly played last season, but with the 2008 Olympics qualifiers on the horizon, he has recaptured his form and looks sharp near goals.

Re: Australian A League Round 5 Washup & Stats Brilliant work Beejay :clap :clap :clap Keep it up. Exactly the kind of information we need. The best bit about this league is that there are so few teams and its easy to keep track of. So far the A-League has been very consistent this year and its easy to pick results, so tables and stats like this will only make it easier

Re: Australian A League Round 5 Washup & Stats Great stat you have there with the goals, i find it interesting that over a quarter of all goals scored in the A-League this year have been in the final 15 minutes. Those who do live betting on matches, could be handy for putting bets on at 75 minutes +

Re: Australian A League Round 5 Washup & Stats Hi guys, I'm back on the A-League this week, had a stellar week in the Tennis last week so kind of got caught up there and did not pay much attention, except to watch the Victory win again, Melbourne Ole! Great work there Beejay, great stats, now the season seems to be taking shape, the line-ups for this week will be very interesting as it is almost at that point where CCM, the Jets and the Knights have to make some changes and try to create some luck and some results as they are really slipping out of the race very quickly. I was interested to see Melbourne into $3 to win the A-League, favorites now from Sydney at $3.50. I doubt Sydney will move much from there, there will be money for them all season just for being the glamour club. Did you guys see this article: http://www.smh.com.au/news/Sport/Roar-swap-goalkeepers-for-crucial-clash/2006/09/26/1159036537476.html and this: http://www.melbournevictory.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18139 Interesting stuff, a cold keeper in the lights of the dome, he could cop a hiding given the form Muscat, Allsop and Archie are in. Interested to see what happens with Allesandro, for me Caceras is the better option. The first two games this round scream draw at me initially, more from the point that none of these teams can afford to take no points away from this weeks matches and I see these two matches being ultra conservative. In the other two, given no line-ups and that, I'd have to say Melbourne and Adelaide to win, Melbourne V Roar being over 2.5 goals. What do you guys think about the emerging Brazilian situation in Melbourne, it will be an interesting to see how Ernie manages it and how Roar seek to exploit it in the pre-game banter, Bliberg loves that kind of stuff. Great tipping last week too guys, hansom profits being made, well done!!
