TazaD
Re: Nfl Pre Season Games New England: 13-2 Under in the first two weeks of the preseason Bit pissed I didn't take the under 37 that was available early, but still very tempted by it at a slightly more risky 36. As you said, starters on both sides 2 series max, then Shaub/Cassell...and Randall and Shockley to play the second half for Atlanta. Crumpler out for Atlanta, and they are also very thin at RB, with pretty much just Duckett and Norwood! They've never been a big passing team...Shaub is a decent QB, but doesn't throw deep... Last pre-season he threw 6.5 y/completion, 2.4!, 3.1 & 5.3. Cassell is similar, going 2.1, 6.2 & 6.4. (I didn't count the 3rd "dress-rehersal" game)... ...and NE are VERY thin on WR's, and will be spending most of the afternoon trying to work out who their best RB option is, so expecting plenty of running. NE only had 1 pre-season game over 36 last year...Atl had 3, but not counting the World Bowl in Japan where both team wanted to put on a show. (ie. score lots!) They had a 20-17 game that had an INT return and a 29 yard run, and a 21-24 game which had a 101 yard KO return and a 72 yard run! I think a more accurate measure of their pre-season last year was the number of FD's they achieved....14, 11, 16 and 15! I can't see them scoring too much on this NE D (even slightly under-manned as it is), and I'm pretty sure the Pats won't be too concerned with the scoreboard. Would love to know what the line is going to do between now and KO...
maj69er
Re: Nfl Pre Season Games The Patriots and Falcons play their first preseason game tonight in Atlanta, with Brady opposing Vick. The Patriots come in off a disappointing 10-6 season, not too bad for most teams. However, after back-to-back Super Bowls, getting knocked out in the second round of the playoffs was a big letdown. For the Falcons, they started out winning six of their first eight games, and then fell flat on their face winning only two of the last eight. Don’t look for Brady to play much tonight as the Pats want to get a good look at backup Matt Cassel. For Atlanta, they’re going to give Vick only one or two series. Backup Matt Schaub should play a quarter or two. Atlanta is a 3-point favorite tonight with the total down to 35.5 points from the opening number of 37 points. Could that move down have anything to do with the fact that the Pats are 13-2 under in the first two weeks of the preseason since 1993? Only thing I really like tonight is Denver -1.5...just a hunch. GL to you guys In the last 4 years the Broncos have gone 11-6 against the spread (3 -1 last year). New Head coach Rod Marinelli has no prior head coaching experience. So the Lions are a sit back and watch this preseason. However Marinelli has been the defensive line and assistant head coach for Tampa Bay the past 10 years. He helped put together the awesome Buccaneer defensive units of the past. With him emphasizing defense and toughness playing Detroit under this preseason might be a way to go. I think your Denver side bet is excellent. Detroit treading water at the moment... TazaD
Re: Nfl Pre Season Games I know the games have started, but the Det/Denver game was a toughy... ...Everything coming out of the Detroit players and coaches pointed to them wanting to win, to turn the last few seasons around. Kitna at QB will be fantastic, and everyone is behind him 100%... ...the only reason I didn't play them was the amount of personel they had missing. 3 of their starting O-line...and more importantly 3 of their starting D-line, which was their one (only!) great strength last season, stuffing the run. Anyway...obviously too late now...early in the 2nd now and I see Orlovsky is already in, so Denver 2H play maybe, with Van Pelt to come. maj69er
Re: Nfl Pre Season Games Quarterback Rotations For the Weekend of 8/10 - 8/14 Saturday, August 12th Pittsburgh at Arizona, 4:00 EST Despite a well-publicized serious offseason motorcycle accident, Ben Roethlisberger will get the starting nod this weekend against the Cardinals. Word is that Big Ben campaigned hard for the start, which Bill Cowher made official on Thursday. Roethlisberger will play just one or two series before giving way to Charlie Batch. Expect to see rookie Omar Jacobs (Bowling Green) to see plenty of action, as Cowher is said to be unhappy with his development so far and wants to see what he has with Jacobs. He and another rookie, Shane Boyd will get the vast majority of the snaps on Saturday. For Arizona, first-round pick Matt Leinart remains unsigned, so the team has just three QB's on it's current roster. That means it will be Kurt Warner, the ineffective John Navarre, and former New England backup Rohan Davey, in that order, on Saturday. The betting line for this contest sees Arizona at -3. Buffalo at Carolina, 7:30 EST Buffalo is one of several teams to have a QB controversy on its hands, as Kelly Holcomb and J.P. Losman are battling out to be the Bills starter. Saturday night, Holcomb will get the start, and should play the entirety of the first quarter and beyond. Losman will get to play in quarter number two and some of the second half. Craig Nall and Kliff Kingsbury will see action in mop-up duty. Holcomb and Losman's roles should be reversed next week, according to head coach **** Jauron. In Carolina, Jake Delhomme is the unquestioned starter, but he has only been throwing sparingly throughout the week. Delhomme will not be in the game longer than one quarter, as is the case for the entire starting offensive unit. Chris Weinke, Stephan LeFors, and rookie Brett Basanez all should see playing time. The current betting line for the game is Carolina -3.5. Jacksonville at Miami, 7:30 EST While it has not reached the level of a full-fledged QB controversy, many Jaguars' fans aren't too sure who they want to be the starter this season, Byron Leftwich or David Gerrard. Leftwich, who is the incumbant, will get the start Saturday night. According to coach Jack Del Rio, the first-team starters will play into the second quarter, as he wants Leftwich to become comfortable with his young receiving corps. Gerrard, who led the team to wins in four of five starts in Leftwich's absence last year, will follow. After Gerrard leaves, only Quinn Gray is left, as undrafted rookie Paul Pinegar has been released. In a surprising move, it was announced Thursday that Daunte Culpepper will start and see 1-2 series of action. The top free agent signee is of course coming off major knee surgery. Backup Joey Harrington, who has admitted to be suffering from arm fatigue, will spell Culpepper and then give way to Cleo Lemon and Brock Berlin. The betting line for this game sees Miami as a one-point favorite. Kansas City at Houston, 8:00 EST There are a ton of injuries to report for Kansas City's QB unit, as backup Damon Huard is now out due to a sprained foot. Huard joins rookie Brodie Croyle (shoulder) on the sidelines. Still don't expect starter Trent Green to play more than a series or two. Jeff Smoker was recently signed in the wake of the rash of injuries. According to new head coach Herm Edwards, “You might see a new quarterback playing for us Saturday without any practice.†Little-known Casey Printers could also see time. If the offensive line can keep him up for once, David Carr should play about a quarter for Houston. Then, Sage Rosenfels and Cody Pickett, who are battling for the backup role, combine to finish things out. There has been a significant move in the betting line here, as the Chiefs opened as a one-point favorite, but now it's the Texans that find themselves as a two-point choice. New Orleans at Tennessee, 8:00 EST For New Orleans, Drew Brees should play the entire first quarter. The Saints coaching staff has been more than pleased from what they've seen from Brees thus far in practice. Yesterday, new coach Sean Payton announced Jamie Martin will take over sometime in quarter #2 and Todd Bouman takes over after the half. "I think it is hard to play more than three and still get a good evaluation," Payton said. "I will go through that with the guys, but that is our plan." The Tennessee Titans starters are expected to play the entire first half, with the exception of QB Billy Volek, who will exit sometime in the second quarter. Vince Young will then take the reigns and probably play through the third quarter. According to coach Jeff Fisher, Young will be getting as much as two full quarters of action in each preseason game. Of course, this will be the first time since last year's College Football National Title Game that Young and Reggie Bush are going to be on the same field. Matt Mauck will begin the final quarter, and Cody Hodges may even see time as well. The betting line for this game is Tennessee -3. Green Bay at San Diego, 10:00 EST In Green Bay, Brett Favre surprised many by announcing his return to the team in the offseason. The Packers' legend did not practice yesterday, and isn't expected to see much action Saturday night. That way Aaron Rodgers, who will eventually take over for Favre when he retires, can get his reps in. A trifecta of unknowns: Tom Arth, Mark Roman, and Brian Wrobel all could see time as well. On the other sideline, this is the year for Phillp Rivers in San Diego, who will play most of the first half. Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer is still undecided on who will relieve Rivers and when he will be relieved. “I don’t want to limit myself, but he’ll (Rivers) go into the second quarter at least,†Schottenheimer said. A.J. Feely, rookie Charlie Whitehurst, and Brett Elliot are all at his disposal. Saturday's betting line is currently San Diego -3.5. Dallas at Seattle, 10:00 EST It was confirmed early Friday that Tony Romo will be the starter for Dallas in the preseason opener. Bill Parcells made the move because Romo is in the final year of his contract, and the team wants to get a full evaluation. Therefore, "he'll play a lot," said Parcells. Despite the surprise switch, Drew Bledsoe will still be the starter once the regular season commences and will see time Saturday as well. So too will Drew Henson, a Jerry Jones favorite. In case you're wondering (and we know you are), Terrell Owens isn't expected to suit up. For Seattle, playing time for all starters will be limited according to Mike Holmgren. That includes Matt Hasselbeck, which means plenty of time for backups Seneca Wallace, David Greene, and Gibran Hamden. The betting line for this game is Seattle -2.5.
