Help for a racing newbie please

Recommended Posts

I've been dabbling in racing for a month or so now and have noticed that more and more races recently are small fields, with only 2 placed, or borderline 3 placed. Is this just natural variation, or to do with the hot weather? More specifically, is there a general annual trend relating to size of field per race? There are fewer winter evening meetings looking at the SportingLife diary, as you would expect, but are there the same number of horses to cram into these fewer races and hence larger fields? Or do fewer horses race in the winter because of the weather/going? Cheers ;)

Simply there is too much racing in the summer hence the small fields at some meetings. You now have racing 7 days a week plus evening racing Mon-sat - its ridiculous. Can you imagine having to work 7 days a week & some evenings as some trainers/stable lads/grooms etc do. It used to be hard to get your horse entered in some races, now they are cryingout for them. It is the poor horses who run more often also so we lose the quality.
