Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July Gone for some outrights, I just couldn't help myself. Hopefully I'll still have some action when I get back on Friday:hope

SportTennis
EventATP Bastad
SelectionROBREDO outright E/W (1/2, 1,2) (Each-Way)
Strength5/10
Date16/07/2006
Bookmaker/Price>Bet365 @ 5.50 (Back)
ReasoningForget what happened on the grass, as Robredo always struggling on that. He was on fire on the clay a month ago winning in Hamburg and reaching the 4th round of the French losing an epic to Ancic. He's really moved up a gear now and that win in the Masters event should really help his confidence. He also has a good record here, going 12-5 including reaching the semis 3 times. This shows he can put the disappointment of grass behind him and get back in the groove on clay. I expect him to go at least one more step this year. His draw is kind, with massive action (Davydenko, Coria, Berdych, Almagro, Calleri, Ferrer) in the top half. His bottom half is a lot weaker with only Ferrero and Nieminen as probable dangers. H2Hs against those guys are 2-0 and 3-0 respectively so I think he should be confident against those guys and should get the job done. I think he's a very solid favourite for this and should probably be a shorter price.

EventATP Gstaad
SelectionGASQUET outright E/W (1/2, 1,2) (Each-Way)
Strength5/10
Date16/07/2006
Bookmaker/Price>Bet365 @ 8.00 (Back)
ReasoningGasquet found his form in Nottingham and after the early exit at Wimbledon he should be prepared for this and to be honest a fit Gasquet should be favourite in this field. Decent half with only Moya and Gaudio to really worry with but neither of those would be until the quarters and after a couple of matches I'd really fancy him against those two. There's not much action in the top half either, and this looks like a weak draw, I'd probably expect Ljubicic to come through. Not much else o say about this one, I just expect Gasquet to come through.
SportTennis
EventATP Newport Beach
SelectionFISH outright E/W (1/2 1,2) (Each-Way)
Strength5/10
Date16/07/2006
Bookmaker/PriceVC Bet @ 9.00 (Back)
ReasoningNot really sure why Fish is such a price like this, I think be should be close to joint favourite with Murray and Karlovic. These 3 guys look like being the class of the field be quite a margin and I expect a Murray v Fish final. Karlovic was struggling with a knee injury at Queens and Wimbledon and not sure how that will have heeled. Even if he is fine it's still a 50/50 IMO against Fish if they make it to the semis so I have to take Fish at a bigger price. He showed great form at Surbiton then lost to Nadal at Queens (that doesn't look so bad now!) and had a stomich upset in the third round of Wimbledon. He should be over that and this guy is still fighting to get his ranking up to where it should be and back at home expect him to be very motivated for this one. His draw is pretty good with only really Philippoussis in his quarter to worry about, but even that shouldn't be too much - even with all his injuries I have to feel Mark only gets up for the 'big' events nowadays so not sure hw motivated he'll be here. Also H2H is 3-0 to Fish. His draw isn't great, but it's OK, and certainly maangeable, and there's a decent chance of him making the final. The top half is totally dependant on Murray, in the final Fish would probably to a slight outsider against him but a strong favourite against anyone else in this field, which I also think enhances this price a little.

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July If Berdman can beat Almagro in the first round there is no reason he cant go the full way (and @ 20 on betfair that's not a bad bet!). He was a finalist here last year and I dont see why he cant do it again. Another good bet looks Wawrinka E/W. The seeds in his half of the draw are Ljubo, Mirnyi, PHM and Feli Lopez - all very much beatable. He has the beating of them on clay. To win the tournament I can see Gasquet having a good chance of this one. GL

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July There are some nice odds for the first round so hopefully itll be a good couple of days :D Niemo over Chela @ 1.52 I just find that Chela is useless on European clay. Niemo is a solid player who has a decent serve and can rally from the baseline. He can play long matches and that doesnt seem to faze him too much. Niemo is close to home being from Finland and should be OK with the climate as well as the surface. Prpic over Marach @ 2.74 They have only played on clay against each other once before, Prpic won 6-1 6-2; not a bad score. Marachs last match on clay he lost to some guy who is ranked outside the top 700 so I dont feel hes unbeatable by any means! Although Prpic isnt much good, he is in his home country and will be trying to please the home fans. Berdych over Almagro @ 2.24 I would put this as more of a 50:50. Berdman was impressive at Wimbledon as well as at the French and is a force on clay. On his day he can beat anyone, but he can also lose to anyone. Almagro hasnt played since his surprising defeat at the French Open to James Blake and so Im looking at the man with more match practise to come through this, especially if it goes to 3 sets. Daniel over Gaudio @ 5.7 Earlier in the year these two played and it went to 3sets, Gaudio is a liability to bet on or against, however, I feel like fading him at the moment. He was poor at Wimbledon and Daniel left Wimby to go straight to a Challenger. He may have lost straight away but he was happy to get back to the clay courts so Ill be backing the man who is used to the clay courts again! C. Rochus over Vicente @ 1.78 H2h says 4-0 to Rochus. All have been on clay. All have been in Europe. All have been in straight sets. Vicente was ranked higher than Rochus for 3 of the 4 matches but Rochus seems to have the measure of him so Im happy enough with that! Rochus isnt bad on clay but Im doing this mainly for the h2h which is just so one sided I cant see it any other way. GL

The season of Spadea up to now has been very bad , I hope that he continue this way ;) Bobby Reynolds vs Igor Kunitsyn back Bobby Reynolds @1,84 stake 4/10 Reynolds plays at home and I think that he can repeat the match played to queens

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July Vicente vs Rochus back Rochus @1,77 stake 6/10 In the previous four match between these two player Rochus has won all of these. I think that Rochus can repeat this situation , because he is in a good period of physical form and Vicente for me it s like an ex player. Good odds for me here. Berdych vs Almagro back Berdych @2,27 stake 4/10 Match in balance here in my opinion . But i like how Berdych play and when he is in a good day he can beat opponents more quoted than him. Nice odds here for me Bjorkman - Waske back Waske @1,83 stake 5/10 I think that Bjorkman it s tired after have playing in Wimbledon , and i don t consider that he have many possibilities today to win. :hope

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July Agree with Waske selection. He's going home , he's going....... Bjorkman's going home..... to play in the Swedish Open in Baastad. Jonas has had a very tough 3-4 weeks on grass and his 34 yo body is sure to be feeling the strain. If he were not Swedish, I am sure that he would by pass this tournament. In 8 previous visits here, he has lost in the first round on six occasions, once in the second and once in the third. Bjorkman has no love of the red stuff, on clay this year he is 0-3, he had an identical record last year and was 2-5 in 2004. Thats 2-11 last three years and 3-8 overall in Baastad. He is too good a professional not to try, but this smells of a quick exit and go visit grandma. Today he meets Alexander Waske , the 31 yo German, is, like JB, a doubles specialist and a seasoned pro. However, he seems a little more at home on clay than the Swede. This year he is 6-10 on the surface, but beat Vicente, twice a finalist on clay recently, at Roland Garros and lost in a 3rd set tie break to the classy Acasuso in the World Team Championship. He beat the Argentine player in Stuttgart last year, when he was 5-6 on clay. Jonas won their only previous meeting, this was on a hard court and has little bearing on the match today, where I expect Waske to win. Looking to keep the good run going, we have had 7/9 winners in the last 3 days and over 19 points profit. 4 points Waske to beat Bjorkman 1.80 pinnaccle/ betfair.

My first investment today, note that they are "investments" when in form, otherwise they are bets, is for Ramirez-Hidalgo to defeat Feliciano Lopez. They have never met on the ATP tour, Lopez holds a 3-0 lead in Challenger/Futures meetings, but all were before 2001, so we can disregard them. Lopez opened with a good win over Volandri, but this was only his third win on clay this year in 10 attempts. You have to go back to 2003 for the last time he had a winning record on the surface. He much prefers hard courts, where his big serve can be seen to it's greatest advantage. In two previous trips to Gstaad, he has never gone beyond the second round, Feli is likely to be fine tuning his game for the hard court season ahead. Ramirez-Hidalgo plays almost exclusively on the red stuff and, at the age of 28, is having his best ever year on tour. In 8 years as a pro, he has recorded over 40% of his career wins in the first six months of 2006. He is capable of the odd stinker, losing to Azzaro (ranked287) and Ungur (245) but boasts, wins over Coria (twice, once in Argentina), Gaudio, Safin and Lapentti, all this year. He reached the quarter finals at Roland Garros and had a good win over Ferrer, en route. On his only previous visit to Gstaad, he made the quarters and will be looking for something similar this time round. Today, we have the meeting of two men, one who has his objective ahead and the second, who will see this as a major target for the season. I see value in the clay courter, with the greater motivation. 3 points Ramirez-Hidalgo to beat Lopez 1.97 betfair. www.ubet2win.blogspot.com

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July Capdeville vs Pless back Pless @1,89 stake 4/10 The Danish player likes playing on the grass and in this surface he has more experience than Capdeville that he likes playing in the red hearth. On this surface the experience it could be decisive .

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July FERRER v Soderling Ferrer is in good shape following his surprise run at Wimbledon and he should go from strength to strength back on a surface he is more comfortable on. Although Soderling has a decent record in this event and will benefit from home support I think Ferrer is a class above him, especially on clay. h2h is 2-0 Soderling but both were on faster surfaces over 2 years ago and when he was the higher ranked of the 2 players. 1.55 @ pinnancle. 10 pts.

EventGabashvili vs Bozoljac (Poznan challenger)
SelectionBozoljac to win
Strength8/10
Date15/07/2006
Bookmaker/PriceGamebookers @ 2.00 (Back)
ReasoningSecond seed Teimuraz Gabashvili will face up against Serb Ilija Bozoljac. The fact is that Bozoljac has won here against better players and easier than Gabashvili. Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili has no major success this year, no success at all I would say. He reached Braunschweig Challenger semifinals losing to Fernando Vicente. But, overall latelly he was losing against names like Becker, Marach, Vicente, Bastl... Well, Ilija is better than them. Still, Gabashivili is struggling here in Poznan. In first round he won against Grzegorz Panfil 6-7(4) 6-2 6-4. In second he struggled again against Vasilis Mazarakis 6-7(3) 6-4 6-1. In quarterfinals he won against totally unknown Gil 6-3 6-1. On the other side Bozoljac defeated Koubek 7-5 6-4, Junqueira 6-0 6-2 and yesterday defeated Galvani 7-5 6-3. This year Bozoljac made a breakthrough in professional tennis. He had some really nice performs during this summer, winning against Pashaski in first round of RG, taking a set against Robredo in second. Also, during this year he defeated Bracciali, Feliciano Lopez, Luzzi, Minar, Gimesltob... Atp level names. So, Gabashvili is playing challenger level more years, but Bozoljac is the one who improves his tennis day by day. And, looking overall he has better results this year and is in better form. For sure, there is a value on Bozoljac @ 2.00.

ReasoningJan Hajek is in great form! He won here against Hector Ruiz 6-2 6-0, Rainer Eitzinger 6-0 6-2 and in quarterfinals Werner Eschauer 6-2 6-4. He is somewhere between ATP tournaments and challengers, but it's obvious he is too good for most of the chs. Hajek won Braunschweig Challenger, Prostejov Challenger, Barletta Challenger, and was a finalist at Prague Challenger all this year and all on clay. On the other side, Devilder won against Juan Martin del Potro 5-7 6-1 6-0, in second against Jan Minar 6-1 6-3 and in quarterfinals against Flavio Cipolla 6-3 6-3. But, Devilder had no success in first part of the year. Last week he lost to Lamine Ouahab from Algerie?? So, full confidence on in-form Hajek.

ReasoningScud has really turned up for this event and has looked very solid thus far. Great win against Fish yesterday and in 3 matches he's yet to be broken. When he gets into a rythem like this he can be unplayable and should have far too much for Melzer. Melzer has had a pretty easy draw but has dropped sets and generally looked unconvincing. I don't see him having too much in his game to hurt Philippoussis, and he generally throws in some loose games so I think the 2-0 is a solid option. Same price also available at Pinnacle.

ReasoningReally fancy Gasquet for this and I'm happy to let my outright bet ride. But onto the final and I fancy a go at the set betting. From what I've seen of Gasquet this week he's playing very well but is still prone to lapses, and has played some shocking stuff in short periods. Lopez played OK against Celic and served pretty well, but on clay he slices too many backhands and is vunerable on that side. I expect Gasquet to dominate proceeding until Lopez serves incredibly, but Gasquet game can go for a while, so I fancy Lopez to nick a set.

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July great outright picks there. I just did Robredo to win so I'm not sure what to do now with regards to laying or not. He and Davydenko are both in really good form. It's a tough one to call. I'd probably have backed Robredo if I wasn't on him already because it should be priced closer to 50-50 than it is, I think. So ehhhh, I don't know really. Gasquet should win but I wouldn't back him at his current price of 1.28. Same with Philippoussis (1.4)

Re: ATP Bastad/Gstaad/Newport Beach 10-16th July Agree with your point A-team, really not any value for a couple of matches that could go either way. Philippossis could turn up and do anything, his serve has been great so far but not really tested from what I have seen. I'm gonna throw some down on Davydenko to win the first set, so far Robredo has lost the first set to SIMON, KOROLEV and NIEMINEN. Davydenko has not lost a first set so far in the tournament. $1.70 for Davydenko to win the first set on sportingbet.

ReasoningSometimes Tommy Robredo plays just average but he is winning, sometimes his opponents are better but they just beat themselves. It was like that yesterday against Nieminen. But, I'm sure that it won't be a case today, his opponent will be Davydenko. Davydenko had a great run here in Bastdad. Since the begining of the year he had nice performs at Australian Open reaching quarterfinals, than he was a runner-up in Estoril, quarter-finalist of Hamburg, winner of Portschach Open and quarter-finalist of Roland Garros. On the other hand Robredo was a finalist in Barcelona and winner of Hamburg. But, today will be different story. Robredo already struggled a lot here and Davydenko is in much, much better form, he goes from strenght to strenght every match. H2H is tied 1-1, but Robredo's win is from 2000 and Davydenko's is from 2005.

ReasoningFancy this first set to be very tight, and we've got a very good chance of a breaker (or 7-5). Philippoussis is still unbroken in this tournament and the way Gimelstob returning he's got a great chance of ending the tournament that way. Gimelstob also has a huge serve and is playing really well so I think he can push Philippoussis pretty hard. Basically, I just dont see either of these guys being broken and the tiebreak is the logical conclusion for the first set.

ReasoningGetting over 4 for this really appeals. I've already mentioned how tight I think this will be and even going so far as 3 tiebreaks wouldn't be a huge surprise. Philippoussis has found his game here and I think in the end he should come through. However, Gimelstob has played well too, especially against some big servers (and Murray!). I think this could go all the way and this bet offers more value than Philippoussis straight up at 1.40.
