Saturday Bookie Basher Picks

Recommended Posts

Right new thread for me as Flat season is now in full throttle and I feel more confident now with the selections then at the start of the Flat season. I will keep this thread ongoing for the rest of the flat season for all my top picks for a saturday as I generally don't have much time in the week because of my work. Saturday 27th May 2006 BOND BOY 2.10 Haydock Bryan Smarts' horses seem to be coming into top form and this horse won doing handsprings last saturday at Thirsk over the same distance and ground. Smart put it down to trying him in blinkers as it's race prior to it's last one, He had hung at Nottingham, "for the first time in his life last time", and, having found that lameness was not causing the problem, his trainer felt he was swinging the lead and hence the blinkers. Bond Boy is a horse that if found the right ground and distance can rack up a sequence. currently trading at @3.80 on Betfair **** INTRIGUED 3.10 Haydock All the signs bode well at Sir Mark Prescotts' stable as he is starting to unwrap his best horses with Spectait due to run on Bank Holiday Monday at Sandown after just missing the cut for the Victoria Cup. Intrigued was Beaten less than 3l when fourth behind Divine Proportions in Group 1 (good ground) on final 2yo start; off since and unproven on this ground but stable won this three years ago and surely significant she´s being persevered with and Prescott would not put her out after such a long time unless, she was fit as a flea and would handle the ground. Intrigued has also got a lot of top draw races on her agenda this season and the signs are she will take this with the minimum of fuss, before going on to those much better races. @2.36 she is currently trading at on Betfair. ***** TAGULA SUNRISE 3.15 Catterick Tony Hamilton came in for a bit of stick after adopting what i would call enterprising tactics at Ripon last sunday on this horse, but Hamilton knew what he was doing and it ran out a convincing winner in the end by 3 1/2 lengths over 6F. It has a 6lb penalty and another furlong to negotiate today, however there is forecast for more rain in the Catterick region from now until post time and Tagula Sunrise won't mind that at all, in fact it will only boost it's chances further and the extra distance is well within the horses compass as it has won before over it. Currently trading at @6.80 on Betfair. **** BOLLIN MICHAEL 4.15 Haydock Another horse who won doing handsprings last saturday at Nottingham over the same distance and ground, however it was a bad race, but I just couldn't fail to be impressed as this horse simply bounded clear. It's going to be the same ground today and gone up in grade from a 6 to a 5 with 3lb less and Jamie Spencer on board, we could see another demolition of it's field as this horse is improving! Currently trading at @2.66 on Betfair. ***** SPHINX 5.15 Newmarket This horse is on a 3 timer in little more than a week! having won 2 races in 2 days at Nottingham and York on the soft over 1M 6F. Today it drops back in trip by 2 furlongs, however it's last run at Nottingham after being held up in mid-division he came there swinging over three furlongs out and quickly went clear in the final two furlongs before being eased down. He had won over course and distance earlier in the season, clearly loves a bit of cut in the ground and there is no reason why he shouldn't go on from there. Currently trading at @2.68 on Betfair. **** ***** = Make an orderly queue at the Bookies payout **** = Great Chance *** = Good Chance ** = Fair Chance * = Outside Chance :ok

Re: Saturday Bookie Basher Picks POST MORTEM What the fcuk!!! Bad, Bad day - bookies must be all fully paid up for their Carribean holidays after yesterdays results! :wall Bond Boy 2.10 Haydock 3rd unlucky in running got caught up behind a weakening horse, a bit unlucky! - I will watch for his next run as I don't think he's stopped his winning just yet for the season Intrigued 3.10 Haydock 3rd and found wanting over 2 furlongs out showing that she needed this 1st run after missing the whole of last season - I will watch where Prescott sends this horse next Tagula Sunrise 3.15 Catterick 7th the anticipated rains did not materialise and hence the ground went against him - if he gets his ground next time out I think he'll win Bollin Michael 4.15 Haydock 9th he did not get the lead and also raced middle of the track which evidently made him sulk - I'm sure Easterby will know what tactics to adopt next time for him and will advise the jockey likewise! if he gets soft ground again and is drawn towards the rail I will be following him Sphinx 5.15 Newmarket 4th pulled hard in the early stages and had his chance however he simply wasn't good enough this time - probably needs a bit of a break as running 3 times in little over a week obviously took their toll POST MORTEM ANALYSIS Just one of those days! - it happens :sad

Re: Saturday Bookie Basher Picks Saturday 3rd June 2006 CHATEAU 3.55 Musselburgh Successfully dropped to this grade over 7f at Redcar on Monday; wasn´t stopping that day and likely to make another bold bid. G A Swinback is in very good form: since 20th May - 22 horses, 7 winners & 4 placed - but more interesting stat of all for Swinbank is at this track in 2005 horses aged 4yrs + he had 4 winners from 7 horses! and has not had any in 2006 until today! Chateau is a 4 yr old in form, it's trainer is in form and this will be goood enough reason for me to be backing it today... currently trading at @4.70 Betfair *** PURPLE DANCER 5.10 Musselburgh Maiden who needs to prove stamina for 1m4f now, though this easy track will help on that score; has shown enough on last couple of Flat starts to be of interest, back from six months off and not beaten that far in muddling 1m2f contest at Pontefract lastmonth. Purple Dancer is trained again by Swinbank and is a 4yr old and as stated above the trainers current form and his form with his 4yr old + horses in 2005 at this track! currently trading at @10.40 Betfair *** BOND CITY 3.30 Epsom Looks best at this trip and went close in C&D handicap last August but this is very tough contest in which to make successful return. However this will inevitably develop into a cavalry charge on this fast track and track knowledge will be a big plus! Bryan Smarts' horses are still in good form and I can't get away from the fact this horse has performed well at this track on 1 of 2 visits here, the other was still relatively ok but did not have the best of the draw: 29/8/5, class 2, 3rd of 13 behind Texas Gold btn 1/2 length & 4/6/5, class 2, 14 of 20 behind Fire Up The Band only btn 6 lengths however a bad draw that day in the middle of the course which did not help! This horse is entered up in 2 top draw sprints later in the season which shows Smart still holds this horse in high esteeem! Crazy price on Betfair currently trading at @70.00 *

Re: Saturday Bookie Basher Picks Saturday 10th June 2006 As previously stated G A Swinbank does have a great record with his horses 4 + years at Musselburgh and here I just cannot get away from the chances of these 3 today! LIBERTY SEEKER 4.55 Musselburgh Swinbank won this race last year with Far Pavillions and is represented today with Liberty Seeker. A useful jumper who readily accounted for ordinary opposition upped to nearly 2m at Catterick in April but seemed to be set far too much to do when third over same C&D last week, as he had a fair amount of weight at 9st 9lbs to carry but still ran a very good race to finish as close as he did. Today he does go up in class from a 5 to a 4 grade however he will be shouldering 1 st less!!! @2.75 Paddypower **** OUNINPOHJA 5.25 Musselburgh Always a step ahead of handicapper on quickish ground in second half of last season and no disgrace in defeat when trying to give Akarem 3lb in Listed handicap at Hamilton on return last month. should gain his revenge over Akarem today as last season proved he needed his first run and he also has effectively 6lbs against Akarem from last time out and ground that will suit much better! @2.50 Paddypower **** RED ROMEO 6.00 Musselburgh 5lb higher than when winning over C&D on good to firm in September and has been taking in part in some quite competitive handicaps at Lingfield. Has the services of Neil Callan today who will give this horse a great ride as opposed to Dale Gibson who has ridden him the last 3 times at Lingfield, and I do not rate one iota! - good each-way chance @8.00 Paddypower *** ***** = Make an orderly queue at the Bookies payout **** = Great Chance *** = Good Chance ** = Fair Chance * = Outside Chance

Re: Saturday Bookie Basher Picks pretty awful last week! Saturday 17th June 2006 EL ALAMEIN 3.50 Bath Well backed winner on handicap debut over this sort of trip at Yarmouth on Thursday after the obligatory trio of unplaced runs in 6/7f maidens; looks a typical Mark Prescott improver and 6lb penalty far from certain to stop him. Only possible danger Winds of Change was beaten last time by a Prescott horse so Prescott should know what is required to overcome him! Prescott 43% strike rate last 14 days and this is his only runner today! ***** "A schu in!!!" @1.91 Paddypower MINAASH 4.15 York Weak 6-1 chance but beat all except previous winner when second in Kempton AW Class 4 event, finishing clear of remainder (three previous winners among them); obvious chance of going one better if proving equally effective on turf; entered for Group 2 Railway Stakes in Ireland. Horse that beat him last time Karayel from Hannon's yard is a serious horse! **** @2.70 Betfair CAPANNINA 7.15 Leicester Weak 20-1 chance when fourth to smart prospect in Windsor 5f Class 4 event last month, going on at finish after getting outpaced; should relish the extra furlong and improve sufficiently to be a major contender. Only beaten a neck by the above said Hannon horse in Hoh Mike's race on only start! **** @3.75 Betfair LOUIE LOUIE 2.55 Sandown Promising seasonal debut in 6f Newmarket handicap in April but hasn´t built on that in two starts since, though soft ground (also reared at start) might not have suited last time; dropping to an interesting mark. Louie Louie has been unlucky in running and it is clear to see through his form he prefers fast ground and 7furlongs, both of which he gets today! he could pay a huge compliment to the form with Ingelby Arch who runs in the William HIll later! *** @7.00 William Hill :ok
