3rd Place finishes

Can someone please explain why jockeys don't bother riding out for third place  ie Cameron Iles on Let the dust Settle - Exeter 3.20 today. Do they get paid for the position they are in when pulled up ?

That horse ran out petrol, nothing left, like the rest of the field pulled before third last, noway that would make it to finish imo, he'll get his riding fee but don't receive any prize money.
