fgee Posted August 16, 2005 Share Posted August 16, 2005 Re: Int Friendlies (17 August 2005) i seriously think we'll get well beaten by Austria they have a full squad i think whereas we have a team of 2nd rates teres been alot of stink kicked up because apparently Walter Smith didnt even want this friendly to happen as he wont be able to work with his proper squad plus there was a long delay at the airport as Scotlands luggage couldnt fit on the plane, so they had to cram the nside of the plane with kit all in all i cant see us getting anything out of this meaningless friendly some might think the squad players will have something to prove but quality is quality, and i think the austrians will beat us well the whole game has a farcical air to it from our point of view Austria are 1.7ish which isnt fantastic value but worth some units Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Still.. I don't see Ireland doing poorly Wednesday, though I think a Draw seems to be likely (and maybe a bit for a home win) considering how they play in friendlies this year and mediocre World Cup campaign so far. They've done just enough to win in the latter, and in the former they've drawn 3 out of 4 friendlies this year. Austria at home is very likeable; Scotland still rebuilding and won't get much done with this squad. Ivory Coast could be a very tough game against France. Denmark have been poor for a while now, although being at home they wont want to be beaten. Although their creativity problem in midfield have tendency to become permanent (with Lampard, Beckham and Gerrard probably cemented there in next few years), they look strong enough for small bet maybe. Seems top-notch players of all nationalities are throwing sickies. Those that are playing will have come under pressure from their clubs to avoid injuries so may not be giving 100 percent. Slovenia travel to Swansea for what will be a hostile atmosphere one would have thought, but that's about the worst they can expect IMO, as on the pitch tonight, Wales will offer very little. Many of the what you could call 'star' names are missing, and many younger unproven players will take the field, for what will be good experience for them, but against a good technically Slovenia side, i think they will really struggle. Betfair, the market still offers +0.25 for Slovenia, i almost filled my boots when i saw that to be honest. Great value here. Austria, well they are no world beaters by any means, but they come up against a Scotland side that they surely have the beating of. Like Wales, many of the better players have been left out, leaving them with what is very much an inexperienced side. Scotland don't really even want this friendly i would have thought, and their minds will be firmly on the remaining world cup fixtures.
