This was the 7th Saturday in a row his headline tip has won :notworthy Tom Segal's Selection Courageous Duke 2.45 Haydock, 1pt win at 8-1 with Coral The hardest thing to lose in racing is a reputation, but Courageous Duke can confound his critics that have him down as a nearly horse and a non-winner by landing the totesport handicap at Haydock this afternoon. There is no way that Courageous Duke is brilliantly handicapped and he clearly has had a load of chances in competitive handicaps without winning one, but that doesn’t tell the whole story because he has run any number of good races off similar marks in better races than the one he contests today. Throw in the fact that he is one of the only horses coming into the race on the back of a really good recent effort, has the services of Kieren Fallon and should have the fast ground that he loves, then it is really hard not to see him running a very big race. Yes he may find one or two too good but given the opposition, the conditions and his draw then I certainly don’t think he’s an 8-1 shot and he should be backed accordingly. Last time at Newbury he ran an excellent race despite not having the clearest of runs in perhaps a better race than today’s and it’s is very hard to win the races he’s been running in over the years because he nearly always runs into an improving horse from a big stable.That isn’t the case today and Courageous Duke has his best chance for ages of winning a big prize.
