Formula 1 : French Grand Prix @ Magny Cours (3rd July)

Recommended Posts

With Wimbledon drawing to a conclusion, I've finally got some time now to get involved with other sports once again :lol . Here's 1 bet to kick things off if anyone's interested... 20pts F Alonso to win the race (2.22 @ Betfair) Personally, I think this is cracking value, even though that's an obvious choice to most. Alonso has registered only 1 DNF(in Canada) in his 8 race starts(right up to, but excluding the US GP) and obviously, Renault have proved themselves to be as reliable mechanically as anyone in F1. Assuming they won't be plagued by any technical problems, I just can't see past Alonso as I think he's holding a very big edge by starting on pole with Jarno Trulli right next to him. Trulli is an underrated driver in many ways IMO as his tactical acumen(or blocking tactics as some choose to call it) is second to none - from his days at Jordan right up till his current stint at Toyota, Trulli has always been one to make the most of cars which are not exactly of the highest calibre. Clocking quick qualifying times aside, I feel one of the reasons behind Trulli's success of clinching the odd podium and regular points positions is down to his ability to hold up drivers behind him for a prolonged period of time(basically, often from the off to the first round of pit stops). Quite simply, that just means the starting grid has everything going for Alonso. With Raikkonen set to start in 13th, I just don't see any genuine challengers to Alonso besides Schumacher in the top 10 - even then, I think Schumacher will have his work cut out given how slow the Ferraris have been at the off(as was the case in Canada when, despite starting 2nd on the grid, he'd slipped down to 5th - and overtaken by both Renaults - by the first corner), not to mention Ferrari are hardly the fastest car this year to begin with. Should the Alonso's Renault get off to a quick, clean start with Trulli following right behind him by the first corner, I feel this race is as good as won - not to mention Renault will probably be more psyched up for this race given they're the only French team(also having a French tyre manufacturer) around. In addition, given the fact they're more at home at this circuit due to the extensive testing they have done over at Magny Cours can only help boost their cause IMO. Cheers & Good Luck! :ok

Re: Formula 1 : French Grand Prix @ Magny Cours (3rd July) Interesting post, edtkh. I am no GP tipster, so will post info as a suggestion for other PL'er's consideration: Millard on the Sportinglife website has Coulthard to finish in the points, at 9/4. Various, race winner odds: Alonso 13/10, Centrebet, M.Schum., 10/3, and Trulli 12/1, podium finish, 5/2. GL, whatever you decide. :ok
