3.40 Ascot: Commonwealth Cup

 

Verdict:

Smashing race despite the drop in numbers and it revolves around the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock which was won impressively by Quiet Reflection. It seems to me that if she runs up to that level of form then she will win, simple as that. The third, fourth and fifth all do battle again on slightly better terms but will need to find a lot of improvement to alter the outcome.

Log Out Island is the one horse that doesn’t come from that race and would be a danger if he could be relied upon to reproduce his improved display from Newbury in a first time hood. As we know they don’t always work as well the second time they are used.

4.20 Ascot: Coronation Stakes

Verdict:

This race is all about Jet Setting and whether she can back up her terrific victory over Minding in the Irish Guineas. She was sold this week for a fortune at the sales and while that is all about breeding later down the line it would be a cracking start for the new connections to win this. She’s got a favourites chance for sure but looks a bit tight in the betting to me and maybe Nemoralia would be a better value bet at the current prices.

This filly has showed she can compete at the highest level in the States and warmed up for this with an emphatic victory in a Listed contest at York recently.
