Some MTT help...

Just about all of the tournaments I'm playing in seem to be going the same way right now. I'll use the one I was playing in earlier today as the example. 200 people to start, and I more often than not play tight, picking off some of the early all-in merchants with a decent hand quite early on. As was the case this afternoon, I'm sitting in the top four after a patient but strong start, mostly folding but playing confidently on the odd strong hand. Then as we get down to about 40 people left in, I seem completely unable to maintain the top 4, or even top 10 position through a gradual increase in chips, instead I seem to be holding on for some 'big hand' to either take me to the top or out of the tournament. As happened today, when finishing 18th I think it was, my stack gradually decreases(certainly in relative terms) as I become maybe a bit too protective of what I perceive to be a good position, and before I know it the blinds are whittling away my remaining chips, and i'm eventually squeezed out. Having been to the final table a couple of times in a decent position, I'm not bad at then employing my single table game to give me a decent shout at the top prizes. So I guess what I'm asking is for a decent mid-tournament strategy, when in a strong position, with perhaps the highest stack at your particular table, in order to at the very least maintain a decent position into the final few people. I seem to be too protective/complacent of the early position, and fail to capitalise. Any ideas appreciated. :ok

Re: Some MTT help... Sorry mate not answering your question )better at STT than MTT) just wanted to add a few words :ok I have a similarish problem finishing just outside the money a lot. For instance coming 28th out of 218 yesterday. I find myself get shortstacked and then going all in knowing if I win im in the money very likely. But often end up losing here.
