In the first game, Sri Lanka were very impressive. Denesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne both registered massive scores and fired their team to nearly 500. That was always going to be a winning score.  After that, Rangana Herath controlled the game with an impressive ten wicket haul.

Now the series heads to Columbo where the home side have a formidable record, so things won’t get any easier for the visitors. If the West Indies are to have any joy, it will be on the back of something special from their decent seam attack. Especially the excellent Jerome Taylor. Unfortunately, the surface in Columbo will favour the home side’s superior spin attack.

In Angelo Mathews, Sri Lanka have one of the best players in the world over the last couple of years. He has a team that is more than good enough to win here.

Angelo Mathews has developed his game impressively since he burst on to the scene as a bowling all-rounder and now averages over 39 with the bat in his weakest format of the game.

There’s no doubt that Mathews would be a decent pick, but so would Kusal Perera coming on the back of a very impressive score of 116 in the final game vs Pakistan. Kaushal Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne are also accomplished players well capable of making a big score against this predominantly seam attack.

Instead, we are looking to Milinda Siriwardana. The young all rounder has a strong technique and has already shown a talent for getting runs at this level, especially when the chips are down. He is an enormous price here.
