Will my bet not get match upon decreasing the lay odd?

Hello! To put it simply, I am going to have a bet placed on a horse with a odds of 10 in betfair.com As you khow, there is an option available for a punter to decrease/increase the odds to any variable he wants. So what is the objection of decreasing the "Lay" odds of 10 to say, 1.5 ? (To minimize the liability if I ever flunked the race). Will I not get matched decreasing the odds? What are the pros and cons of doing such decrease on the odds number? (for lay albeit).

I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong but your bet will almost certainly not get matched if you decrease the 'lay' price as described above. For your 'lay' to be matched, someone will have to want to 'back' it at the price you're laying - which isn't going to happen.
