Newcastle United v Arsenal > Saturday March 21st

Re: Newcastle United v Arsenal > Saturday March 21st Taking Arsenal this weekend. Newcastle are in poor form and similar to West Ham last weekend they are decimated by injuries. Newcastle United squad is down to its 'bare bones' with nine members of his first team squad unavailable for the game, captain Fabricio Coloccini (26 app/1 goal) will be suspended for three matches after his appeal against a red card shown in last week's clash with Everton was turned down. They are also without top scorer Papiss Cisse (19/11) for another six games following his suspension for involvement in the spitting incident with Manchester United's Jonny Evans. Although Jack Colback returned to the side last week after a month out and with Remy Cabella fit again, Newcastle remain hamstrung by injuries. Mehdi Abeid (9/0), Rolando Arrons (3/1) (both thighs), Massadio Haidara (15/0), Paul Dummet (21/0), Cheick Tiote (11/0) (knee), Steven Taylor (10/1) (calf) and Siem de Jong (2/0) (collapsed lung) all remain side-lined. Their home form has been average recently and they are safe from relegation due to their good form in early season. Carver probably won't be manager next season, they have 1 win in 6. Arsenal are flying as they usually are at the end of the season, the result on Tuesday was good but not good enough, they will be disappointed but not reaching the next round was hardly a surprise after the first leg. They might rotate a couple of players but have plenty of options, no new injury problems, Wilshire and Ox still out. Newcastle seem like they are on their holidays already and the supporters have totally given up on the season, the suspensions and injuries have killed them, they always struggle for goals without Cisse. Perez looks a good player but is still adapting to the league. Arsenal are only 1 point behind City now and I don't think they have anything to fear, coming second is certainly a possibility and they have a decent chance of winning the FA Cup too. I wouldn't expect a landslide despite the team news, 13 outfield players fit never looks good but Carver has said he won't be throwing any of the kids into the team as it might destroy their confidence to play in a struggling side. Arsenal have a decent record against Newcastle winning the last 6 against them and going back a bit further 11 of the last 15. Arsenal by 1 or 2 for me, -1AH looks a good play with some security, odds might well drop given the team news. Arsenal - 1.67 - totesport - 7 Points Arsenal -1.0AH - 2.00 - bet365 - 5 Points

Re: Newcastle United v Arsenal > Saturday March 21st Newcastle United- Arsenal Having watched the defensive car crash which was the Everton backline last night, it is hard to believe that United failed to score against them last Sunday and they are clearly a team very low on confidence and the Magpies have now lost their last seven starts, by an aggregate 22-2 goal difference against teams who finished top 7 last season, including a 4-1 defeat at the Emirates against the Gunners. Arsenal won 2-0 at Monaco in midweek which was a goal shy of the three needed to advance, but they did little wrong, dominated the game and as I said the following morning, must still be wondering how they went out to a vastly inferior team. I suspect that will further motivate them for the rest of this season, they can still finish second in the EPL, win the FA Cup and no English team went further in Europe. They have played as well as anyone over the last three months, scoring two or more goals in 18 of 21 starts and in 10 of 12 on the road and they should again have too much firepower for the hosts. 1.5 units Arsenal -1 ball 1.97 asian line/Sportmarket.

Re: Newcastle United v Arsenal > Saturday March 21st Agree with the great posts above. Motivation is always my number one consideration when looking at any match and it seems to be on opposite ends of the spectrum here. Players don't need much of an excuse to perform below par and take it easy in professional sport if they can get away with it. That's why managers always talk about mentality, attitude etc. Newcastle are coming into this one with a bag full of excuses to lose as outlined above. Have also taken the -1 AH @ 1.99 Pinnacle
