I’m a big fan of this kid and he will certainly land the money at some point this season. He is driving the ball really well. Not only is he hitting it straight but he’s pinging it a long way too which is perfect around here. If he can just find his touch on the greens he could be the one to beat this week. His extra length should serve him well and the way he was holing out last week suggests to me that he is a man very confident in his game at the minute. He isn’t always the straightest off the tee but by and large he’s been driving the ball well in 2015 and if the putts go in he can lead those from mainland Europe here. Van der Walt was one of the nearest challengers to Branden Grace at the halfway stage of the Alfred Dunhill Championship before a couple of average rounds sent him down to eighth but Grace never saw another opponent that week so he wouldn’t have won anyway. Two weeks ago he shot 63 around the tougher course at the Joburg Open and only an indifferent final round there sent him tumbling down the field but those experiences should have made him stronger and the way he’s driving the ball he’s entitled to be in the mix again this week at a decent price. Despite missing the cut last week, has played ok on the main tour this year. Has a decent finish in him, and with only 8 rivals here is worth a punt at these sort of odds.
