Re: flat racing fri 2nd jan 12.50 Southwell Wreningham is far too bigger price at 20/1. He has some really useful CD form and has come back after a lengthy layoff to still show he has the ability. His 2nd run back was a solid 2nd over CD behind Incomparable (gets a 5lb turnaround with him today). Not so good at Wolves latest start but could easily bounce back over this CD off a further 1lb lower mark and now 5lb below last winning mark. 1pt e/w Wreningham 20/1 PP 2.30 Southwell Sleet should prove very hard to beat here today. Has almost been exclusively raced at this venue like several of these yards runners. Good return to action from a summer break on latest start behind revitalised winner. The form of that race has worked well with both the 3rd and 4th winning since. Yard going well at present and useful apprentice takes over today claiming a handy 5lb and should strip fitter for the run. 2pt win Sleet 7/4 bet365 6.45 Wolverhampton Unusual looking class 7 handicap with several inform sorts. Spoken Words bounced back to form last time out as a 28/1 winner. Didn’t appear to have a lot to spare so a 6lb penalty may scupper any chance of a repeat and isn’t exactly a reliable sort. Tsarglas won with a bit more ease over a mile at Kempton latest, in first time visor. Not convinced a drop in trip will suit given how he got outpaced turning in before staying on strongly. Also runs under a penalty and apprentice not in the saddle today so effectively 9lb higher today more needed at quite skinny odds. Opus Dei might be worth taking a risk on, in his day he was rated much higher than most of these. Been off the track for a lengthy period before having 3 runs with previous yard, glimmers of hope in one of those runs and handicapper giving him a real chance. Joined a new yard and if that yard have found the key to him again he is dangerously well handicapped on his best form. 1pt e/w Opus Dei 10/1 VC
