Markpl1
Having never seen him play before or even known what he looks like. I have to say what a sad story his life was. They are currently showing the 1997 WSOP main event on the poker channel and you almost could have guessed at the time he would end up meeting an untimely end to his life. The interviews are almost done in a pleading way hoping that he has eventually cleaned up his life. P.S For those who are not aware "the kid" is considered one of the best tournamnent players ever to live winning the WSOP poker three times (80,81 and 97). Died in 1998 with nothing but about 10 dollars to show for his whole lifes achievements. A bio here really should be made into a film. http://www.thegoodgamblingguide.co.uk/thisweek/2001/stuungar.htm

Jezza
Re: Stu "The Kid" Ungar This guy was supposed to be a true legend at cards, one of the best (if not the best ever) there was at NL hold em and certainly supposedly the best gin player there has ever been. A hyper loose-aggressive player, he apparently raised every pot relentlessly and punished any player showing the slightest sign of weakness by snatching the pots from them. Numerous stories abound about hands that stuey played, but one that sticks in my mind is when playing in a cash game he called a gigantic river bet from a tough player with 10 high...his opponent had 43 and the 10 high played to take down the pot - unreal :eek. Although he was the best card player that ever lived he was just a degenerate gambler. Apparently the day he learnt to play golf one of his friends approached him on the learners putting green to find he was 80,000USD down to johnny moss already :lol When asked what he was going to do with the 1 million he won one time at the WSOP in the post final table interview he replied "lose it". A total disregard for money (he just kept all his cash on him - one time being refused a table in a restaurant as he didnt have a reservation he whapped out 20,000 in bills and placed it on the maitre d's book - he had a table within seconds :lol). Backed by mafia bosses to play cards for them he had a degenerate drug addiction to go with the gambling and ended up dead in a hotel room with 800 dollars on him (all his money in the world) in the late nineties. All of this could be turned into a superb film IMO (what a great story) and that one that has just been released is called "hi roller" now (a story about his life). Unfortunately for having such good material to work with word on the street is that the film sucks and indeed it has gone straight to DVD in america (and is only available in NTSC american format - you can get it from amazon but unfortunately I cannot play it). I would still love to see it someday but it sounds liek justice has not been done unfortunately Jez
