Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 15 A quiet weekend for me, given there is nothing in the weather forecast to suggest anything other than another messy Saturday. Unsurprisingly to regulars, I've been opposing two sides regularly pointed up in recent weeks - Bury Town and Burnham. The best prices about St Neots, who host Burnham, have long gone, but - again as regulars here will know - we've been doing some decent business out of unfancied but improving St Neots. At odds against they were a huge price, though that has now gone, leaving a best of 5/6 (BetVics), still further out than my own price. Met Police go to depleted Bury and are a best of 5/4 (BetVics), having been much better on the first shows. That isn't terrific value. They are a tricky and technical side, and capable of some very decent football, though this season (and last) they have lacked the physical presence to properly mix it at the business end of the Ryman. They were comprehensively bullied out of it by Billericay midweek, but for all their red cards I don't think Bury can muster anything like that sort of muscle at the moment. I was happy to take bigger prices about Met Police, but the current 5/4 doesn't offer great value, especially as they may be missing some key performers. Lewes, with five consecutive draws, were a decent initial price against Wingate & Finchley, and 5/6 (Marathon) is just in value territory. One bigger number I like is Grantham Town away at Matlock Town. The puzzling managerial merry-go-round at Grantham has seen some chirpier form of late, dominating Marine last week. Away from they have been less good, but the price is big (10/3 in places), and you have to factor in that they were unlucky not to get at least a point against Trafford last time out away and before that they won at Ilkeston. Matlock are on a decent run, and don't naturally look material to oppose, but their season is almost over and the departure of Lewis McMahon to Ferriby hints at some spring cost-cutting.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 15 Ships - I had a close look at the Bury/Met game but I'm going to swerve it (if indeed it's on). Bury have their two centre-backs back after suspension and their other players suspensions don't kick in until next week, which theoretically puts them at full strength (an oxymoronic statement, I know). The 5/4 about the Met really doesn't represent value in my book, but they do have a live chance of landing the spoils. Margate vs Grays is where I'll be wagering, but an early afternoon inspection today doesn't bode well and I fear that this one could be the first casualty of many in the RPL.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 15

Only St Neots survived for me' date=' and they duly won.[/quote'] Top marks, Ships. I said a few weeks ago after watching the Kingstonian/Maidstone match that both those sides could be opposed. Did I do it today? NO! I took in the Harrow/Maidstone match and it was a belter of a game that could have finished any score. Maidstone don't look to me to be a live favourite in any match and can taken on. Yes, they have goals in them, but defensively they look all over the place.

Sounds a bit like Dulwich. They always look capable of scoring goals, but seem to be making careless errors at the back. They did on Tuesday night against Thamesmead but luckily they weren't good enough to take advantage.

I remembered your words after the Maidstone game - excellent analysis! It's quite a puzzling situation at Kingstonian this season, as they have a decent squad, perhaps only lacking a real flair player and some depth on the bench. It seems to me they've spent too much time tinkering with midfield personnel. Without adequate cover the defence is nowhere near as solid as it was in September, and the strikers aren't getting any sort of service. Ryan Moss looked a class above any other Ryman forward into the autumn; now he looks like he wouldn't make the bench at Walton Casuals. Since the summer, I've really puzzled over this section and I'm not much the wiser now - as addpea says, Dulwich are accident-prone but are certainly the best team to watch and now Maidstone have had the wind taken out of their sails. AFC Hornchurch are not a bad outfit and look solid all over the pitch at the moment, especially now they're functioning well in attack. Wealdstone have been the most effective performers but seem to have an in-built wobbliness whenever they get near the finish line. The Wealdstone/Hornchurch game will reveal a lot about the destination of the title.

I can't disagree with that post, Ships. It pretty much sums it up. My observations regards to a few teams are as follows: Dulwich - I've seen them twice. They beat Lowestoft comfortably enough in their opening match of the season, playing a lovely passing game and Erhan Oztumar (sp) was outstanding. I also saw them win 2-4 against Enfield recently, again Oztumar was tremendous and bagged himself a hat-trick. They have a couple of wide players that look pacey, but they probably need good-to-firm ground to perform at their best. These bogs of the RPL doesn't really suit their passing style of play. Maidstone - Seen them three times. once at home, when two wonder-strikes saw them beat Lowestoft 2-0. If the truth be known, Lowestoft were the better side and had long periods of possession. Away at Kingstonian, they were handed the match due to ineptitude by the Kingstonian team, in a match that was dire to watch. Kingstonian looked a disjointed bunch and the result flattered Maidstone. Yesterday against Harrow they could have conceded seven or eight without complaint. In Frannie Collin and Zac Attwood they have goals and Alex Flisher wide left offers an outlet, he also has an excellent long throw, but their midfield and defence are wanting, and with Jerrome Sobers at centre-back (who was dropped yesterday) they'll always struggle to keep clean sheets. Conceding four against Thamesmead speaks for itself. One team that have slipped under the radar are Bognor Regis. I've been impressed with them and they can mix their play suit. Their remaining fixtures see them play Kingstonian & Hornchurch at home and they have to travel to Maidstone, other than that, I'd fancy them to bag the three points in the majority of their matches. It's Wealdstone's league to lose, but they've still some difficult matches to play both home and away and someone could sneak up on the rails.

Re: England > Weekend > Northern, Southern & Ryman Prem Feb 15 Couldn't believe it when I saw Luke Rooney has joined Maidstone the other week, bloke transferred from Gills to Swindon for 300k two years ago! He has plenty of talent but has been badly advised in the past, I'm not an expert but I would have thought he should be one of the best players in the league, will certainly help them going forward anyway.

On his performance yesterday, he has problems and/or has lost the plot completely. I wasn't impressed.

Lol, I read on their forum after his debut they thought he was MOTM, obviously this form hasn't continued. Other Gills fans seem to enjoy his fall from grace as it was seen that he thought he was better than he actually was, turning down a new contract and going to a club that was - at that time - flush with cash. He went on loan to loads of clubs but not impressed, I'm surprised he's ended up in the Ryman Prem though. Christ knows where he goes if he doesn't impress at Maidstone..
