4.00 Wolverhampton Take A Note is largely consistent but just about looks right in the handicap at present at latest effort was a step backwards although trip possibly stretched him. Illustrious Prince scored quite convincingly in pretty soft conditions at Redcar last time out that was in an apprentice race so goes unpenalised for that, not always been the most reliable but can back efforts up and should go well. Although wide draw not helpful. The Mongoose is yet to win off a mark this high and was disappointing last time out. This trip looks a bare minimum with Ferryview Place and looks to need further. Bapak Muda looks worth a chance with some value in the market. He has won over 6f at Kempton and Haydock in good style, before running another strong race last time out in faster conditions. Up a further 1lb for that effort but back on a slower surface he should go well, also should see out this extra furlong having gone well over a mile at times. 2pt win Bapak Muda 4/1 VC 6.00 Wolverhampton Elizabeth Coffee has her quirks and finds winning tough these days, can often be pretty soft in the finish but did finish better last time out. Long time since she has shown any form over this sort of trip aswell. Eyeline is a still a maiden but has run to a respectable level most starts and better effort last time out behind Amantus who meets again today. That form looks very patchy given the way the race just fell apart and might not stand up against tougher opposition here. Men Don’t Cry finally got off the mark off a basement mark at Ffos Las in July in good style he followed them up off revised mark with 2 decent efforts, has shown a liking for the AW surface in the past over shorter trips and is of obvious interest trying these sort of trips for the first time on this surface, has a good draw and yard remain in good form. 2pt win Men Don’t Cry 5/1 VC

Re: Flat Racing 16th Monday Sept 3;30 Wolv Born to Fly - One of only 3 in the race who has a win behind her belt which was over distance in a maiden auction at Yarmouth. was given a mark of 67 for that run and entered a 0-85 class 4 race where just weakened final furlong. Handicapper has taken 3lb off Born to Fly for that effort with Jimmy Quinn taked taking over the saddle again. Dropping back into a 0-65 nursery and stall 5 for a prominent horse should help. 0.5EW 12/1 betvictor

Re: Flat Racing 16th Monday Sept 17:20 Brighton 5f 59yds Class 5 Juice 107 2 Radio Made In Brighton Handicap Selection: The Strig After an exciting weekend of high quality racing from Doncaster’s St Leger meeting on Saturday, the Curragh for the Irish equivalent yesterday alongside an excellent card for Arc Trials Day at Longchamp, it’s back to the standard fare of Monday racing today with cards from Brighton, Musselburgh, Wolverhampton and Listowel providing the action over in Ireland. There are still winners to be found regardless of the contest and previous course and distance winner The Strig looks to be in with every chance in Brighton’s finale following a good 2nd at Sandown last time out. The 6-year-old trained by Stuart Williams has been kept busy with 58 starts to his name which includes seven wins. Despite only boasting a 12.07% strike rate you would only be £1.90 out of pocket if you backed him to £1 stakes in every race following three successes at double figure odds. His last win came back in July over today’s course and distance on a 6lb lower mark in a Class 5 contest which he won well enough. After settling in 3rd for the first couple of furlongs the horse joined the leaders as they turned into the home straight and he stayed on well inside the final furlong to hold off the late challenge from Johnny Splash, scoring by a neck in the end. After the race, jockey Jean-Pierre Guillambert did say that “I rode him on Saturday and he didn’t quite get the start right. He has his head cocked in the stalls, and you’re either a saint or a villain when they open. He’s won that nicely enough but everything has got to fall right for him.”, Guillambert is set to take the ride again today so hopefully the horse will settle at the start and go into the stalls without any problems. Although the form of that race hasn’t worked out to be the strongest with only one of those behind The Strig that day winning since, the selection has continued to run consistently well including being involved in the placings on his last three starts. The first of those again came over course and distance when he was just touched off by Royal Bajan on a mark of 64. These two pulled clear of the remainder inside the final furlong and were neck and neck up to the finish with Royal Bajan just getting up by a head. The winner was raised 9lb for that victory but went on to win again next time out at Lingfield, completing a hat trick of wins. Next time out he was narrowly beaten again, this time at Goodwood where he flashed past the post with Aye Aye Digby and Picansort. It looked as though The Strig was going to get up inside the final furlong but he couldn’t defy the late runs inside the final 100 yards by the other two and he finished back in 3rd, a short head behind Picansort and a further head behind Aye Aye Digby. On his latest start towards the end of August he bumped into a good horse in Rocket Rob at Sandown who had been running in better events previously. This time round the horse was held up towards the rear of the field but he eased his way through the field as he made his challenge a furlong from home. Quickening in excellent style he was a clear 2nd but couldn’t go the pace as Rocket Rob who got up by 2 lengths, with The Strig a further two lengths ahead of Macdillion back in 3rd. He’s raised a further 2lb here and is now on a mark of 66, he did win 4lb higher on 70 in November last year over 6f so it still looks like a winnable mark and after knocking on the door in recent efforts, the return to Brighton where he’s won twice and been placed a further four times will also boost his chances. His first win at this track came on Good to Soft ground and with the ground currently Soft, conditions should be in his favour. Threave could be the biggest danger after winning a Class 4 contest at Salisbury over 5f last time out by 4 lengths. There could be more to come from the mare trained by Violet Jordan but with the ground an unknown she’s worth taking on.
