This week sees the shorter format of the game played as the 6 red world championship takes place in Thailand. The tournament is covered on Eurosport all week and the shorter table format makes for good aggressive snooker. The tournament features 48 players who are split into 8 groups of 6 with the top 4 going into the knockout stages. Group draw is here: http://www.worldsnooker.com/staticFiles/46/be/0,,13165~179782,00.pdf Schedule is here: http://www.worldsnooker.com/staticFiles/47/be/0,,13165~179783,00.pdf

Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Tournament preview: 2pts ew R.Walden to win Six Red World Championship 20/1 BetVictor (1/2 1-2) One man with a good record in this tournament is Ricky Walden and he looks a fair bet this week. We know Walden is in good form as he won a PTC a couple of weeks ago up in Doncaster and then followed that up with a last 16 in Germany last time out. He has won this tournament in a different guise in 2008, finished runner up in 2010 and he was a semi finalist last year so the format clearly suits his game and with his form good too he’s the main bet this week. 1pt ew M.Williams to win Six Red World Championship 18/1 BetVictor (1/2 1-2) Mark Williams doesn’t always enter these invitational tournaments, especially overseas but the fact he has entered this one says a lot. Williams often goes well overseas and we know he’s playing well too as he is another who has won a PTC this season. Very few in the game are better at getting in and scoring than Williams and that’s the name of this particular game. With his quality he’s worth a punt on the outright market this week too. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Group A preview: 2pts M.Davis to win Group A 2/1 Boylesports Mark Davis is the defending champion in this tournament and I like him to progress through to the knockout stages by winning his group. There isn’t a really consistent player in this group aside from him so he should cruise into the knockout stages and with the rest of the group likely to take points off each other it can be left to the consistent Davis to top Group A on the defence of his title. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Group D preview: 3pts J.Trump to win Group D 11/10 Boylesports For me though Trump will be too good in this group. The crowds in Bangkok should be pretty good so Trump can go out and entertain and this is the perfect platform to do that with. Trump was a semi finalist in this tournament last year and there are few better in the game at opening the balls up and making big breaks. If this does come down to Trump’s match with Milkins I’m happy to be on at 11/10. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Group G preview: 2pts S.Bingham to win Group G 9/4 Ladbrokes This format suits Stuart Bingham a lot more. There aren’t many weaknesses in Bingham’s game anymore but if there is a slight question mark somewhere then it is in his safety play so the fact he won’t have to play much safety this week should be useful to him. Bingham has always been a heavy scorer and that remains the case. This group is near enough a match bet between him and Higgins but I’ll take the Englishman to prevail at 9/4. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Opening day match previews: 3pts M.Stevens to beat S.Maguire 11/8 Stan James I think Stevens will start the better here having had a match earlier in the day to get used to conditions and that can be vital in a best of nine sprint. Maguire didn’t produce his best snooker in this event last year either which would be another concern so I think there’s a lot to like about the Welshman at odds against in the big name match of the day. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/maguire-vs-stevens-betting-experience-of-conditions-can-benefit-stevens-against-maguire 3pts D.Morgan to beat D.Poomjaeng 6/5 Ladbrokes I think this could well be a close match. Both men play earlier in the day so both will know the conditions. Morgan plays Neil Robertson earlier in the day so this might be more of a must win match for him than for Poomjaeng but even then Morgan has nothing to lose as nothing is expected of him. Everything is expected of Poomjaeng which can complicate things and if he struggles with expectation, Morgan can capitalise. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Tuesday previews: 4pts S.Davis to beat Wattana 5/6 Skybet Steve Davis looks to be playing the better snooker of the two here and I would expect him to come through this match. It isn’t a good result when Wattana is only beating Asif 5-4 even allowing for the fact that it was his first match. A win is a win but Davis was a lot more comfortable in beating a much stronger opponent. That should count for something so I’ll take Davis in this one. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/s-davis-vs-wattana-betting-steve-davis-can-see-off-the-home-favourite-in-group-h 3pts M.Williams to beat S.Murphy 11/10 Paddy Power On the form of the first set of matches in this group I find it hard to believe Williams is the outsider in this match. Murphy looked to struggle in his first game whereas Williams looked comfortable. Williams has a good record overseas so it is no surprise he found his feet straight away and I would expect that to continue here. He’s the value in this one. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Wednesday previews: 3pts R.Hull to beat T.Un-Nooh 5/4 Bet365 This is effectively a knockout match and with the pressure that is on all the Thai players this week, that could play into Robin Hull’s hands. He seems at home in this format as opposed to the 15 red one which he’s struggled over in recent times and if he can get off to a quick start then there is no reason why he can’t pick up the win which will secure his place in the last 32. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/hull-vs-un-nooh-betting-robin-hull-can-surprise-the-thai-in-crunch-group-e-match 3pts D.Morgan to beat J.White 5/2 Ladbrokes There isn’t as much of a discrepancy in the form of these two as the odds suggest and with everything on it for Jimmy White there’s a chance the pressure could get to him. Darren Morgan showed in the seniors that he can match Jimmy White and I’m sure with the next Seniors Championship not far away Morgan will want to win this one. At 5/2 he’s worth a small punt. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Thursday last 32 previews: 3pts A.Higginson to beat J.Perry 11/10 Ladbrokes Andrew Higginson has played the better snooker this week so if he keeps that form going then he looks a nice price to take out Perry here. Perry has struggled throughout what wasn’t the strongest of groups so he’ll need a lot more than what he’s shown so far this week to come through this. Given the way he’s played and his odds against price I like Higginson here. Full preview here: http://www.punterslounge.com/perry-vs-higginson-betting-andrew-higginson-can-see-off-joe-perry-in-the-last-32 4pts G.Wilson to beat J.White 4/5 William Hill Gary Wilson is a short price for this match but based on the events in the tournament so far I think he’s a more than fair bet for the match. Jimmy has made it through but it has all been a bit of a struggle for him whereas Wilson has flown into this stage. As long as he doesn’t get stagefright I think Wilson will win this one. Re: Six Red World Championship 2-7 Sept Final preview: 4pts M.Davis to beat N.Robertson 7/4 BetVictor Mark Davis seems to love this format and if he can whitewash John Higgins and dominate Mark Selby he’s clearly doing something right. He must feel like he can’t lose in this format at the minute. Neil Robertson could be forgiven for thinking his name is on the title this week having survived two deciders and the run of opponents he’s beaten but Davis is overpriced here and is the value call.
