Not seen much discussion about Goliath this year. Anyone going? Grosvenor online are running satellites this week with 5 seats gtd, so going to take a look at numbers and might give it a shot. There is a team event again this year, so feel free to put in a PL team if there are enough of us. golban29013.png [TABLE]

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 I'd probably have given it a go this year, except that I'm busy on the Friday and so would have to play one of the earlier day 1s and make a second trip to Coventry for days 2+ (if I survived day 1). Though I might succumb to madness and try to qualify this week, and do just that ... :$

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 Similar situation for me. Duncan can't get any time off work, and I'm not free Thurs or Fri without a lot of reorganising, so hadn't really considered it. Then had the bright idea that I could drive down for the day on my own for Day 1A or 1B without needing to make any overnight arrangements, and then I'd persuade him to accompany me back on Sat if I make it through! Neither the feeder nor the satellite ended up with overlay tonight. Sat gave 7 seats plus a bit of cash. I bought in towards the end of late reg, chipped up without a rebuy and then took the add on. Went out 12th. More in than I expected tonight, I suppose numbers might tail off as people win seats and maybe no overlay to tempt them back in. Might give it one more try during the week, then decide if I still have any bankroll left from 2yrs ago to stump up the whole buy in/petrol expense!

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013

Can anyone remember what ID is needed, I cant find my passport at the moment.
If you are already a member at a Grosvenor Casino you shouldn't need any other ID than your card I think. I usually take my passport with me just in case they want photo ID, but your driving licence etc should be fine. You can buy in online in the poker download lobby beforehand rather than risking leaving it til the day. There's also another link from the Goliath page on Grosvenor site. I'm going to make a decision after the Poker Player game at the weekend, but would be going for Day 1A if any. :ok

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 I'm bought in for day 1A so making the trip down to Cov for the day tomorrow :ok Hoping it's not full of people with deep pockets there for the week prepared to treat it like a 4-day/8-rebuy tournament. Staffy, are you going? Anybody else from PL at all? If we want to make a team up (2-6 people) I think it has to be entered before start time tomorrow.

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 I bought in on the poker site this morning as I'd seen it mentioned that buy in there closed this afternoon. Reading on facebook page, looks like the online ticket shop closed then too. Think you can ring the casino and buy in over the phone if you don't want to wait til you get there. If anyone is around in the morning and wants to register a team, I'm happy to be in one (Helen Godfrey). :) http://www.gukpt.com/goliath/teamevent/

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 Glad I made the trip down, and enjoyed the day, though didn't last the distance. Started off OK but was tough to keep accumulating chips, seemed like 1 step forward 2 steps back. So was between starting stack (25k) and about 40k most of day. Last couple of hours I dwindled away, got a lucky treble up with JJ back to 40k (half average by then) and lost them KJ against 99, (flopped J and 9). Went out 129th from 364 starters and 75 re-entries. Shared a table for most of the day with Lee Rawson, winner from 2 yrs ago, who not only recognised me too, but remembered my name. :) He busted Jeff Kimber, who I hadn't recognised at the table! Also joined Simon Deadman's table for a few hands before I busted. Got chance to grab a quick chat with Rupert from Grosvenor, who was manning the check-in desk. Good luck Kev :hope

Unlucky Helen, Playing friday which looks like being the biggest day. Having followed some of the updates there seems to be some wild play going on. People going all in even when sitting on 60bb. What was it like on your tables Helen. I remember their was some strange play early on last year, but it seems even madder this year. With starting stakes of $25,000 and blinds at 25/50 seems little reason for people to need to chip up early

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 A lad I know from our local casino, says last year he went down and played each day and rebought twice, with his aim of finishing the day on over 350k, if he looked like he was nowhere near he just kept jamming with his plan on either getting to his target or start a scratch the day later. Needless to say he failed to make it to Day 2 and have seen in photo's on Facebook that he was playing Day 1a and Day 1b.

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 GL Kev. Sorry, didn't log in yesterday. The play was actually less wild than I expected, being the first day I was thinking everyone would be shoving to get early chips or re-enter, but that wasn't my experience. Maybe I was lucky with the table. Looked like around 1200 in today when I checked earlier. :loon

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 Well this was my worst Goliath. 1000 played with around 300 rebuys. Day started really badly when due to Car trouble and then 3 major crashes on the A14 didn't arrive until level 3. Table was ok. Main problem was lots of limpers who stayed until the river often with bottom or middle pair. In the whole period up to level 9 and the dinner break I didn't have a pair and my best hand was A9. Had managed to win a couple of small pots so was in reasonable shape around 32k. Then got AK in late position. Raised an early position limper who then reraised me 5k. Called the raise but missed the flop and he shoved. had to fold. Then QJ in the blind. Raised by one guy in early position who was reraising my blinds all the time often with junk. Hit the Q on a Q 8 4 rainbow flop. Raise the flop and pot is now about 6000. Raiser calls. 10 on the turn. we check down to river. river is a 2. No flushes or straights. I check to see what he does and he raises 3k. Call and he shows 10/8off. I lose a couple of small pots and Im down to 11K. Finally get my first pair, JJ's and pick up a 6k pot when I hit trips. However blinds are now up to 800/400 shortly to go to 1200/600. Pick up J10clubs in late and call a button raise from the guy who has been raising my blinds. Flop is J diamonds, 7 hearts, 3 diamonds. Raise a pot size bet of 6k as I suspect its another button move. He then reraises me all in. I only have about 11k left and pot is already 17k. I call and he turns over 6hearts, 3 diamonds. But of course he then hits runner runner diamond's to pick up a flush with his 3 diamonds. So pretty frustrating. In 6 hours of play I pick up one pair and the only other good hand was AK which I had to fold. Next to me the guy who was sitting on a stack of around 70k, had shown AK 3 times, AA twice, KK's and QQ's twice.

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 Goliath Final Result. Terrible deal done. Winner took £27,000 less than original prize pool. I think he was 3rd at time of deal. Actual 3rd ended up with £19,000 more than 3rd prize money. Guy who put me out ended up 2nd with almost exactly the original 2nd prize fund. Original prize fund 1st – £56,540 2nd – £31,000 3rd – £19,000 4th – £11,000 "Jake Skidmore has beaten the biggest tournament field in European poker history to win the Goliath at Grosvenor G Casino Coventry at the Ricoh Arena. Two records were actually broken, with largest total entries of 2,570, and largest individual runners of 1,822. Originally first prize was £56,540, but with such riches on offer for such a small buy-in, the final four made a deal. Jake Skidmore, from Redditch, topped the event to turn his £100 +£20 buy-in into a first prize of £29,690, beating Jiri Sladkovsky heads up. Local student Dan Cullen who finished third secured £38,710 in the deal, with Jiri taking £31,535 and fourth-placed Birmingham lorry driver Steven Winstanley pocketing £17,605."

Re: Grosvenor Goliath 2013 Payouts were very top heavy. 2yrs ago pretty sure it was 30k+ for 1st and I took home just over 8k for 5th. This year over 50k for 1st and still only 8k for 5th. They should take some off the top and ensure that 15% of the field get at least double the buy in.

Well this was my worst Goliath.
My worst too, cashed in the other 2! Will still be trying to get there next year though. :D
